Chapter 856 Is She Really Pregnant?
She was a bit dazed, still not fully awake from that dream.
Pregnant.
Why did she suddenly dream about being pregnant?
What was going on?
But when she gave it a second thought, Penelope had a high chance of getting pregnant.
Kelvin never let her off at night, though last night she did manage to get a good night's sleep for once.
And did he use any protection?
Penelope was stunned.
Did he or didn't he? She had no idea!
The lights were always off, and she never dared to look at him directly. How would she know these details?
"Kelvin!" Penelope suddenly called out.
Kelvin, who had just entered the bathroom, came back out. "What's up?"
"You..." She hesitated, feeling awkward.
"What?"
"Did you... um, use protection when we, you know, did it?"
Kelvin raised an eyebrow. "Did what?"
"You know, that."
"Which 'that' are you talking about?"
She bit her lip. "Stop playing dumb with me!"
Seeing her like this, Kelvin finally understood. "Protection?"
"Yeah!"
"Why?" Kelvin was puzzled. "Penelope, why are you suddenly asking about this?"
"I'm just asking. Did you or didn't you?"
He countered, "Don't you know?"
"How would I know? I wasn't watching you!"
She felt so embarrassed after saying that.
She could almost picture it in her mind!
Kelvin still didn't answer directly but asked, "Do you want me to use protection or not?"
"I..." This question stumped Penelope.
It felt just like in her dream when the doctor asked if she planned to have a third child.
She wanted to, but she also didn't!
So conflicted!
"Why? Is this question hard to answer, Penelope?"
"If..." Penelope thought seriously, "If we don't plan on having kids, then we should definitely use protection. If we do plan on it, we should prepare in advance."
They couldn't just get pregnant and have a baby without any planning.
Penelope added, "When I got pregnant with Sam and Lucy, it was because you did it on purpose. You deliberately didn't use protection. Now we have two kids, you wouldn't use the same trick again, would you?"
Kelvin still didn't answer her question directly. "Penelope, is your body even capable of having another child?"
She had lost a child before.
Later, when she was pregnant with the twins, it was much harder than for other mothers.
Kelvin didn't want her to go through that again.
It was too exhausting.
With Sam and Lucy, he was already very content.
Penelope was getting frustrated. "Just answer me, did you use protection or not?"
"I did," Kelvin said. "When it comes to your health, Penelope, I wouldn't be careless."
If she got pregnant and didn't want the baby, an abortion would be very harmful to her body.
He couldn't bear to let her go through that.
If she did have the baby, it would be nine months of pregnancy plus postpartum recovery, a whole year of hardship.
Kelvin would only let her get pregnant with her consent.
"That's good." Penelope breathed a sigh of relief. "You scared me..."
Kelvin looked at her. "You don't want a third child?"
"Not exactly..."
Why did it circle back to the question from her dream?
Penelope scratched her head, then flopped back onto the bed, pulling the blanket over her head. "Let me think this through alone."
Kelvin was confused.
She had a dream about falling down the stairs, so why was she suddenly asking about protection?
Weird.
Was there something else in her dream that he didn't know about?
"Penelope," Kelvin leaned against the bathroom door, "you know no contraceptive method is 100% reliable, right?"
She mumbled, "Yeah, I know."
No matter how well they used protection, there was still a chance of getting pregnant.
The odds were very low, but it was still possible.
Like winning the lottery.
What if they hit the jackpot...
Ugh!
Penelope's mind was a mess, and she was thinking all sorts of things. Then she thought about her period.
Right, how could she forget something so important?
Whether she was pregnant or not, she could figure it out by counting the days.
When was her last period?
What date?
Penelope thought hard but couldn't remember.
However, she had a habit of marking it on her calendar every time she got her period.
Penelope threw off the blanket, grabbed the calendar from her nightstand, and flipped through it.
This month, nothing.
Flipping to last month, still nothing.
Was it because she was busy taking care of Sam and forgot to mark it, or did it really not come?
Penelope flipped to the month before last and finally saw a mark.
Her last period was at the beginning of the month before last.
So, counting the days, it had been over two months.
Scary!
It had been delayed for so long, and she hadn't even noticed!
Why was she so oblivious to her own body? Was that dream trying to wake her up?
Penelope shivered.
Was she really pregnant and completely unaware of it?
Or was she just too exhausted from taking care of Sam, causing her period to be delayed?
But delayed for this long?
Penelope didn't know how to tell Kelvin. Should she get checked to see if she was pregnant?
Anyway, he was taking her for a gastroscopy today.
Kelvin saw her staring at the calendar and didn't say anything, but he made a mental note.
When Penelope went to freshen up, he picked up the calendar.
He flipped through it and saw nothing special, but there was a circle marked on a date each month.
The dates weren't fixed, but there was a circle almost every month.
Someone had marked it, like recording a pattern.
Only last month and this month were missing.
Kelvin quickly connected the dots.
Her period.
This was Penelope's menstrual cycle.
So, was she asking about protection because she was pregnant?
The thought hit Kelvin hard!
Should he be happy or worried?
Having a child was a good thing. Like Liam, he had become more traditional, hoping for a big family.
But Kelvin also worried about Penelope's health!
He had always used protection. He wouldn't let her get pregnant without her consent.
But if an accident happened...
No one could control that.
Kelvin steadied himself. No need to overthink. They would wait for the hospital's test results.
For now, it was all just speculation.
In the dining room.
"Dad, Mom, why are you so late today?" Lucy asked. "We're almost done with breakfast."
Kelvin patted her head. "You go ahead and eat. Don't wait for us."
