Chapter 1029 Hiding Your Cancer Diagnosis from Her
Brandon paused, then softened his tone. "Look, Kelvin, I'm not here to fight. We both want to protect Penelope. If you can't do it anymore, then I will. I've messed up a lot, and I regret it."
"But... Penelope doesn't know the truth. Let's keep it that way. If she finds out about your illness and the awful things I've done, she won't be able to handle it."
Kelvin lifted his chin. "Brandon, listen up. I haven't given Penelope the evidence yet, not because of my illness, but because you have those photos of Thessaly. Got it?"
Brandon was shocked that Kelvin was still considering giving the evidence to Penelope!
"Kelvin, you're dying, and you still want to reveal my true nature to Penelope and make her hate me?"
"If she hates you, it's your own fault. You deserve it!"
Kelvin's attitude was unwavering. He despised Brandon's hypocritical facade even more.
"Fine, Kelvin, have you thought about what will happen if you tell Penelope everything I've done? She'll distance herself from me. After you're gone, who will she rely on when she needs help? I can help her!"
Kelvin chuckled. "Brandon, you're overestimating yourself. Even without me, there will be people I trust to help her!"
How could it possibly be that solely Brandon might serve as her sanctuary and solace!
Brandon asked, "Are you talking about Timothy? Or Nathan? Or maybe your trusted aides? Sure, they can help her seemingly. But who will heal the deepest wounds in her heart when she's alone at night?"
Kelvin's temple throbbed. He wanted to punch Brandon and make him leave! But he couldn't do that.
"Penelope will be here soon," Kelvin warned. "You'd better keep your mouth shut."
"So, you're planning to hide your cancer from her."
"What I do is none of your business!"
Kelvin glanced towards the restroom entrance. Just then, Penelope walked out.
She looked surprised to see Brandon.
Penelope quickly walked over. Kelvin lowered his eyes, and when he looked up again, he was calm and composed, as if nothing had happened.
Brandon also composed himself. After all, this was a battle between him and Kelvin, and he didn't want Penelope involved.
"Brandon?" Penelope smiled. "What are you doing here?"
"Just a coincidence."
Penelope looked around. "Are you alone? Where's Thessaly? Didn't she come?"
"She's at home," Brandon replied. "She doesn't want to go out, afraid of being recognized by fans or passersby."
"Right, I almost forgot she's a big star. She gets recognized everywhere."
Penelope pointed to a large electronic screen in the distance. "Look, her ad is playing right now."
Brandon glanced in the direction she pointed. It was an ad for a beauty product Thessaly endorsed. The camera was close to her face, yet she still looked stunning, with flawless, glowing skin.
"I'm so jealous of you," Penelope said. "Having such a beautiful girlfriend. Is she feeling better now? When does she plan to start filming again?"
Brandon hesitated. "I haven't asked her. I don't want to pressure her. She'll go back when she's ready."
Penelope nodded, not pressing further. She didn't know what Thessaly was going through, but since neither Thessaly nor Brandon wanted to talk about it, she decided not to pry.
Everyone had their own life to live.
Kelvin stood up and wrapped his arm around her waist. "Penelope, let's go."
Penelope waved at Brandon. "We're going to keep shopping. Bye."
"Bye."
Kelvin didn't even intend to look at Brandon, quickly walking away with Penelope in his arms.
He was tall with long legs, and Penelope had to hurry to keep up with him.
"Jealous again?" she asked quietly, looking up at him.
"Jealous? Of Brandon?"
"Yeah, why else are you walking so fast?"
"I just don't want to see him," Kelvin said, pursing his lips. "And don't mention him again. The third floor is the kids' section. Let's buy something for the kids."
Penelope nodded, then suddenly stopped, her eyes sparkling as she looked at him.
Kelvin raised an eyebrow. "What's up?"
She stood on tiptoe and kissed his cheek.
Kelvin's eyebrow arched higher. "Trying to seduce me?"
"I just wanted to kiss you," Penelope said. "I can kiss my dear husband whenever I want, can't I?"
"Of course you can..."
With that, Kelvin cupped the back of her head and kissed her deeply.
This was more than just a simple kiss.
Penelope's eyes widened, her cheeks turning red. "Kelvin... we're in public..."
The more she spoke, the deeper he kissed!
She just wanted to kiss him to show her appreciation for spending the day shopping with her. She was happy and wanted to reward him.
But now, in the mall, he was kissing her like this!
It was so embarrassing!
People were walking by!
Not far away, Brandon, still sitting in the café, saw the whole scene.
His fists clenched, his expression growing more twisted... Kelvin was doing this on purpose, flaunting their love in front of him!
Brandon told himself to look away, but he couldn't... he stared intently!
Kelvin had Penelope completely.
He could kiss her, hold her, and do even more intimate things out of sight.
Brandon knew this, but when he didn't see it, he could manage not to think about it... But now, seeing it with his own eyes, all his resentment surged up!
Others noticed the scene too.
Voices of discussion rose.
"Did you see that couple? I've been watching them since they arrived at the mall."
"They bought so much stuff, probably spent tens of thousands of dollars."
"The gentleman is rich and handsome, and he's so gentle and caring to that woman. I'm so jealous."
"And they kiss without caring about others. Their relationship must be really good."
Someone gasped, "They look so familiar. Wait, isn't that..."
"Mr. Davis from Davis Group and his wife!"
Jealous exclamations echoed.
Brandon couldn't stand it anymore. He got up and left, his face dark.
Fine, Kelvin, you can show off now, but let's see how long you can keep it up!
