Chapter 808 He, Brandon, Is the Fiancé of the Mitchell Family's Socialite

"That definitely sounds like something Sam would say."

Brandon muttered to himself, "Sam always wanted me to be his dad, always trying to set me up with Penelope. I wonder if that still holds now?"

After a few seconds, he added, "He was just a kid, how could I take it seriously?"

"Mr. Walker, what are you talking about?"

Ruby hadn't heard clearly, only seeing Brandon's lips moving.

"Nothing," Brandon looked up, "Ruby, take care. The Walker family will always welcome you back."

Ruby replied, "I'm getting old, Mr. Cooper and Miss Cooper will soon be too much for me to handle. I'll have to retire to a small town and live out my days peacefully."

"Mr. Walker, you really should find someone to be with. Ms. Mitchell has held you back for too long. You need to find your destined one."

"Yes, Ruby, let me see you off."

Brandon personally escorted Ruby to her car.

At that moment, Ruby felt like she was seeing the familiar Brandon again.

Polite, gentle, and meticulous.

The Brandon who had just smashed his phone was a complete stranger!

Watching the car drive away, the smile on Brandon's face slowly faded, and his gaze became sharp and deep.

Why, after everything he had done, was he still alone, with nothing to show for it?

Everyone was drifting away from him!

He, Brandon, was supposed to be the fiancé of the Mitchell family's heiress, a marriage arranged long ago!

Penelope's husband should be him, not Kelvin!

He had done just as much for Penelope as Kelvin, and he had never hurt her!

Why didn't she choose him?

Where did he go wrong?

"I can't accept this, Penelope, I can't accept this..." Brandon gritted his teeth, "Kelvin has done so many things to hurt you, yet he still ends up with you! Why do you willingly go back to him?"

"What does he have that I don't? Is he better than me?"

"What does everything I've done for you mean?"

"Penelope, I told you, I will only marry one woman in my life, and that woman is the Mitchell family's heiress! It's you!"

Find someone new?

No!

Brandon wanted Penelope!

He would compete with Kelvin, and he would pursue his happiness!

He was not inferior to Kelvin; in fact, he treated Penelope better than Kelvin ever did!

Brandon had always been devoted to Penelope, never wavering!

"Penelope, you and I were destined from the start. Kelvin came later, and in matters of the heart, there should be a first-come, first-served."

Brandon's gaze grew deeper and more intense.

This place wouldn't remain empty for long!

It would welcome its mistress!

Meanwhile, in the hospital room.

Penelope looked at the phone she had just hung up, frowning slightly.

Brandon was acting very strangely.

But she couldn't quite pinpoint what was off about him.

Maybe Isabella's death had impacted him, and Debra's confession at the cemetery about Penelope's disappearance years ago was too much for him to handle all at once.

She should meet with him in a while and have a good talk.

Penelope put down her phone and looked up, meeting Kelvin's gaze.

He was staring at her!

"What's wrong?" Penelope asked, "I had the speaker on, you heard everything."

"Brandon seems really upset."

"Given everything that's going on, who wouldn't be?"

Kelvin leaned back on the sofa, crossing his arms. "He's in a bad mood. Are you feeling sorry for him? Want to comfort him? Be with him?"

Penelope blinked, staring at him in confusion. "What are you talking about?"

"Penelope, you told me yourself that you love Brandon."

Her heart skipped a beat. Oh no, she had forgotten about that. Now Kelvin was bringing it up!

Penelope was completely caught off guard.

"I've always remembered," Kelvin continued. "Have you forgotten what you said?"

"Ha, I remember, I remember."

"So, staying with me, are you feeling wronged?"

"Not at all!" Penelope quickly denied, moving closer and wrapping her arm around his. "Kelvin, let me explain."

He remained cool and distant, arms crossed, not budging.

Penelope forced her hand into the crook of his arm, holding onto him tightly. "Sweetheart~"

"Not working."

Kelvin was unmoved. Did she think calling him sweetheart would solve everything?

Penelope pouted. Alright, Kelvin was playing hard to get now. Calling him "sweetheart" and kissing him didn't seem to work anymore. Had he forgotten how he used to cling to her, forcing her to call him sweetheart and kiss him?

Men! They really don't cherish what they have once they get it!

But Penelope dared not voice her anger. She had to coax him first! It was her own fault for blurting out that she loved Brandon! Now look at the mess she was in!

"Um..." Penelope leaned closer, resting her chin on his shoulder, looking at his profile. "Kelvin, you don't really believe what I said, do you?"

He asked knowingly, "Which words?"

"Those words."

"Which words are those?"

Penelope had no choice but to say, "The words that I said I liked Brandon, do you really believe them?"

Kelvin retorted, "They came from your mouth, and you said them right in front of me. Do you think I should believe them?"

"After all this time, you should have sensed something was off!"

She had said it out of anger, deliberately. Kelvin was smart, and he should have seen through it. If Penelope really liked Brandon, why would she stay by Kelvin's side, help him take care of the two kids, and plan to reveal Sam's identity early on? Why would she refuse Brandon's request to save Isabella without hesitation? More obviously, why would she share a bed with Kelvin, letting him take advantage of her vulnerability?

She said she loved Brandon, but her actions told a different story.

Kelvin snorted coldly, "Even if I sensed it, so what? I couldn't be sure. My heart has always been hanging by a thread because of you, never at ease. I think you like me, but then I think you don't. Because you said you liked Brandon, and you said it to my face. You never told me you didn't like Brandon."

Penelope quickly asked, "Can I tell you now?"

"No."

"What?"

"It's too late." Kelvin was very cold. "Too late."

"It's not too late, it's not," Penelope said. "Back then, I was only thinking about divorcing you, getting rid of you as soon as possible, so I said I liked Brandon to make you give up. Now..."
