Chapter 989 Go for a Fingerprint Identification
The detective handed Brandon a call log.
Brandon skimmed through it quickly.
Kelvin's number jumped out at him.
"Thessaly... called Kelvin?"
He checked the date. It was the same day Thessaly had been fixing her makeup in his office bathroom.
So, after Brandon had dropped Thessaly off at home, the first thing she did was call Kelvin!
Brandon noted the call lasted half an hour.
He slammed the call log onto the table, his face darkening.
"Did she hear anything? She seemed so calm, like she didn't know a thing. And... there was real affection in her eyes!"
"But why would she talk to Kelvin for so long? And on that night?"
"I planted a bug in Thessaly's bag, but I didn't hear a thing!"
Brandon's eyes narrowed. "Did she find the bug? Does she know everything? Has she been playing dumb this whole time?"
The thought filled Brandon with a sudden, intense rage, and he radiated an intense and murderous intent!
'If it's true... then Thessaly can't stay!'
A woman with such a cool head was terrifying!
The detective caught the name "Kelvin," and a flicker of fear crossed his face.
Everyone in LA knew—even the best detectives wouldn't touch anything related to the Davis family!
Otherwise, far from keeping their jobs as detectives, staying alive would be a gamble!
"Useless!" Brandon snapped at the detective. "All this time, and you can't even investigate one woman properly. What am I paying you for?"
"Mr. Walker, I..."
The detective had done his best, tracking all of Thessaly's activities.
He was just short of tapping her phone!
Brandon gritted his teeth. "If Thessaly really overheard my conversation with Paul that day, then everything she's shown me since has been an act! All a pretense!"
Well, well, he almost forgot—she was an actress, an award-winning one at that!
She nearly fooled him, too!
He thought he was utilizing Thessaly, but maybe Thessaly was utilizing him all along!
"Mr. Walker, calm down... calm down," the detective said, swallowing hard. "It's just a call log; it doesn't prove anything. Even if you confront Ms. Winterbourne, she could have countless legitimate reasons. Like discussing work with Mr. Davis, or maybe she was actually talking to Mrs. Davis using Mr. Davis's phone..."
Brandon sneered. "Yeah, you're right. But she could have called at any other time. Why that night?
She was in a hurry; she couldn't wait a moment! She had to contact Kelvin immediately!
"Mr. Walker, this evidence isn't enough. It would only tip off Ms. Winterbourne that you're onto her, and Mr. Davis might find out too."
Brandon slammed his fist on the desk again.
After several deep breaths, Brandon glared at the detective, his eyes filled with malice.
This was no longer the gentle Brandon from before!
"So," Brandon asked, "can you find any more evidence?"
The detective's mind raced. In their line of work, you needed more than just skills; you had to be quick on your feet, especially when the stakes were high and the reward was even higher. Brandon was offering a hefty payout, and this job had to be done right.
After a moment of thought, the detective said, "Mr. Walker, you mentioned you planted a bug in Ms. Winterbourne's bag?"
"Yeah."
"Did it pick up anything?"
"Not a damn thing!"
The bug hadn't worked at all, which was why Brandon was so ticked off. It was like it vanished into thin air after he placed it in Thessaly's bag.
The detective quickly came up with a plan: "There are only two possibilities. One, Ms. Winterbourne hasn't found the bug and just hasn't used that bag. Two, she messed with the bug."
Brandon asked, "How do I figure out which one it is?"
"Easy," the detective replied. "Get the bug back."
"Get it back?"
"Yeah, once you have it, do a fingerprint analysis. See who's touched it. If Thessaly doesn't know it's there, her fingerprints won't be on it."
Brandon paused, then slowly smiled. "Not bad, that's a solid plan!"
That was what they would do!
Seeing Brandon finally crack a smile, the detective quietly breathed a sigh of relief. At last, Brandon seemed satisfied.
"So," the detective asked cautiously, "are you gonna retrieve the bug and do the fingerprint analysis yourself, or should I?"
"I'll handle it."
Brandon had already cooked up a plan on how to deal with this.
Thessaly... he didn't see her as a threat at all. Even Kelvin hadn't been able to touch him, knowing full well what he'd done, yet unable to act. What could Thessaly possibly do?
Unless that day in the bathroom, Thessaly recorded his conversation with Paul!
But if she had recorded it, she could've used it against him ages ago. Why would she keep seeing him, even agreeing to be his girlfriend?
"Get out," Brandon waved his hand, his expression gradually calming. "Let me know if anything comes up."
"Yes, Mr. Walker."
The detective quietly exhaled. The money was good, but man, it was hard-earned!
Brandon looked down at the call log in his hand, then tore it to pieces.
He chuckled coldly to himself, "Thessaly, oh Thessaly, I was planning to let you go, to use you and then let you return to your glamorous life as a star. After all, you've helped me a lot."
"But if you insist on opposing me, even teaming up with Kelvin against me..."
"Then don't blame me for being ruthless!"
The weekend.
The Walker Mansion.
The butler was directing the staff, making sure every corner was spotless and the kitchen was whipping up a variety of snacks and treats, ensuring everything was perfect.
Because today, the Walker Mansion was expecting a crowd.
It hadn't been lively in a long time; usually, it was pretty quiet.
