Chapter 960 Miniature Bug!
"Leaving already?" Brandon furrowed his brow, his gaze darkening as he looked at her.
"I'm so worn out. Between the photo shoot and all those meetings, I just want to get home and crash."
Thessaly didn't bother to hide her fatigue; it was written all over her face. She really needed to get home as soon as possible. Every second here felt like torture.
"I was hoping we could grab dinner tonight," Brandon said. "But if you want to head home, let me drive you."
"No need to trouble yourself..."
"It's no trouble." Brandon picked up his car keys and casually grabbed her bag. "Let's go."
He then turned to Paul and the others. "You guys can head out too."
They finally caught on and quickly got up to say their goodbyes. Brandon was clearly trying to get some alone time with Thessaly.
"Thessaly's something else," one assistant director remarked. "Even Mr. Walker's fallen for her."
Another added, "I thought she was so full of herself, but she's just another rich man's plaything."
Paul stayed silent. He knew Brandon was testing Thessaly, trying to bring her into their fold. Regardless of the outcome, Paul thought that if he were Brandon, he'd eliminate Thessaly just to be safe. Better to be wrong than to let her slip away.
The black Mercedes cruised down the road, finally stopping at an upscale apartment complex.
"We're here." Thessaly glanced outside. "Thanks for driving me home."
Brandon turned to her, his eyes gleaming in the darkness. "You've thanked me several times today, Thessaly. You're getting more polite with me."
"I'm genuinely grateful, Mr. Walker."
"I haven't really helped you," Brandon said. "I hope I can. Will you give me that chance?"
As he spoke, he reached over and ruffled her hair, a gesture reserved for those who are close. Brandon was deliberately trying to make her overthink, to mislead her.
Thessaly's heart sank. If she hadn't overheard everything today, she might have been thrown off by Brandon's actions, wondering if he had feelings for her. But she knew better.
She knew how to play her part. Thessaly tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, looking at him with a bright, shy smile. "You... of course, you have a chance. Bye."
She got out of the car and waved. Brandon waved back.
Thessaly walked into the complex without looking back, but she knew Brandon was watching her. Once home, she turned on all the lights and stood in the living room for a while, feeling utterly drained. She finally collapsed onto the carpet, leaning against the sofa.
It was finally over. She needed to contact Kelvin immediately. No... wait, it wasn't over yet!
Thessaly grabbed her bag and dumped everything out, searching frantically. But she couldn't find what she was looking for.
"It's got to be here, it can't not be in my bag..." Thessaly muttered to herself as she rummaged through her things. "Brandon wouldn't just carry my bag for no reason."
"Someone like him usually has others carry his stuff."
"Something's off, let me check again..."
Her voice was barely audible, and her words rushed; only she could understand them. She searched thoroughly and finally turned the bag inside out, finding it at last.
A tiny bug! It was so small, about the size of a fingernail, easily hidden among the clutter in her bag.
Thessaly held her breath, carefully picking up the bug and cradling it in her palm. Maybe, just maybe, Brandon was listening right now. If she called Kelvin and spilled everything she heard today, it would be her end.
The more you know, the worse your fate. And she was the one who knew too much.
What to do? Throw it away? No, she couldn't. If she got rid of it, Brandon would know she found it.
After thinking it over, Thessaly put the bug back in her bag and tossed it into the closet, then ran to the guest bathroom, locking the door behind her.
It was so far away, it shouldn't pick up anything, right?
Thessaly picked up her phone and dialed Kelvin's number.
Meanwhile, at The King Manor, Kelvin was in his study, attending an online international meeting. Penelope was in Sam's room with the kids, leaving him undisturbed. It was a calm, peaceful night.
His phone rang suddenly, and Kelvin glanced at it. Thessaly was calling? Without a second thought, he declined the call. Once bitten, twice shy. He didn't want any dealings with Thessaly, not even a phone call.
But as soon as he hung up, she called again, determined to get through.
Kelvin picked up his phone. "Pause the meeting."
He walked to the window, opened it, and looked out. "Hello?"
"Mr. Davis..." Thessaly's voice was shaky, filled with fear and a hint of tears.
His brow furrowed. What was going on with Thessaly? Was she in trouble? Had something happened? But what did it have to do with him? Why call him?
Thessaly had personal assistants and managers, and a team at her personal studio. She could reach out to them for help. So Kelvin's tone was cold. "What is it?"
"I... I have something really important to tell you. I have to."
Thessaly's voice was broken, her breathing shaky.
"Tell me?" Kelvin questioned. "Are you sure? Wouldn't it be better to talk to your team, or maybe Penelope?"
"No, it has to be you, only you, because only you... can handle this!"
Thessaly took a deep breath, clutching her phone. She had been acting all night in front of Brandon, and she was exhausted, her mind foggy, acting purely on instinct.
At this moment, she couldn't control her near-breaking emotions.
"Mr. Davis, please just hear me out; don't hang up; don't get impatient..." Thessaly swallowed hard. "I know I'm not in a good state right now, but give me a moment, just listen slowly..."
"Today... I met with Brandon and Paul."
Hearing those names, Kelvin's brow furrowed even more. He said nothing, just held the phone to his ear, listening intently to Thessaly's halting words.
