Chapter 869 She Went to Celebrate Brandon's Birthday

Now, it seemed like she had won. Timothy was asking her if she wanted him to be at her beck and call.

Why did Monica feel so unsatisfied, so uneasy about this victory?

She couldn't quite put her finger on what was bothering her.

The more she thought about it, the more frustrated she became. It was driving her crazy!

"Oh my gosh, my kids are old enough to play outside, and you're still single. I'm worried!" Penelope sighed repeatedly. "Monica, give it to me straight. If you don't like Timothy and there's no chance you'll ever be together, just tell me. I'll keep an eye out for eligible guys around us. You might hit it off, meet this month, date next month, and get married the month after..."

"What are you doing?"

"When you meet the right person, it happens fast." Penelope pressed on, "Come on, tell me, do you have feelings for Timothy or not?"

"I think you have feelings for him. I'm outta here."

Monica avoided eye contact, put down her fork, and got up to leave.

If Penelope kept asking, she wouldn't know how to answer!

Penelope followed her with a mischievous smile. "Timothy may look like a player, but he's actually quite reserved. And you, you may seem like a flirt, but you're a perpetual single lady."

"He should be more direct and assertive. He could have won you over ages ago."

"These things need the man to take the initiative. You two have been at this for years with no progress. It's driving me nuts!"

Monica grabbed an apple from the fruit section and shoved it towards Penelope's mouth. "Enough, stop talking."

Penelope dodged. "I wouldn't say this to just anyone."

In the middle of their playful banter, Penelope's phone rang.

Monica breathed a sigh of relief.

Finally, some peace and quiet!

"Hello, Brandon."

Hearing the name, Monica perked up, staring intently.

"Penelope," Brandon's voice came through, "Are you free tonight?"

"Tonight? What's up?"

"Nothing much," Brandon said, "Just wanted to have dinner with you."

Penelope didn't immediately agree.

Having dinner alone with Brandon didn't seem right.

Sensing her hesitation, Brandon added, "You can invite Nicole."

His suggestion made Penelope feel even more awkward.

Brandon was always so considerate, thinking of her feelings, knowing she'd feel uncomfortable alone, so he suggested bringing her mom.

But actually, having Nicole there would only make things more awkward between her and Brandon!

"Uh, no need," Penelope said. "My mom's on a health kick, only eating fruits and salads at night."

"Then, just the two of us? Is that okay?"

Penelope hesitated again.

Should she go?

Refusing or not refusing both felt wrong!

Next to her, Monica was frantically signaling, "Go, go! Why not?"

"Forget it," Brandon said, "I was too abrupt. It's just that today is my birthday, and I wanted to spend it with you."

What?

Brandon's birthday!

She definitely had to go!

Penelope agreed, "Okay."

"I'll send you the restaurant location later." Brandon chuckled, "You don't need to bring a gift, just treat it like a regular dinner."

"No way, we have to celebrate your birthday properly."

"Having you there makes my birthday perfect."

After hanging up, Brandon's face showed a satisfied smile.

Penelope's every reaction was within his expectations.

She used to trust him so much that he had a firm grasp on her psychology.

He knew she would hesitate, so he suggested inviting Nicole.

Then, if Penelope still hesitated, he would back off and mention his birthday.

This way, Penelope would soften, and she would have no reason to refuse!

She would definitely come tonight!

Putting away her phone, Penelope's face scrunched up in worry.

"Why the long face?" Monica said, "Go, you should definitely go."

"If Kelvin finds out..."

"He should find out!" Monica patted her shoulder. "He can cozy up with Thessaly, but you can't have a simple dinner with Brandon? What's the problem?"

That made sense.

Penelope straightened up.

Yeah, he and Thessaly had been photographed in intimate poses, and she hadn't said anything. What's wrong with her having dinner with Brandon?

Besides, today was Brandon's birthday!

She had a legitimate reason to celebrate!

And she certainly wouldn't be cozying up with Brandon!

"Right." Penelope nodded. "That's settled then!"

Monica was very pleased. "That's the spirit! An eye for an eye! Let's see if Kelvin dares to get close to other women again!"

"I need to get busy."

Since it was Brandon's birthday, Penelope had to bring a cake and buy a gift!

She carefully selected a birthday cake and reserved a scarf with the mall's sales assistant.

As soon as work ended, Penelope left.

Clocked out right on time!

So, when Kelvin arrived at the jewelry department and saw her empty desk, he frowned. "Where's Penelope?"

"Penelope left for the day," Tina replied. "She left right on time."

Since when was Penelope so eager to leave work?

Was she deliberately avoiding him?

Was she still angry?

Kelvin looked at Tina. "Did she say anything else?"

"No, Mr. Davis," Tina swallowed nervously. "But she did say she was meeting a friend tonight and needed to leave early."

"Meeting a friend?"

Who?

Male or female?

What for?

"That's all Penelope said..." Tina noticed Mr. Davis's face growing darker and shrank back. "I don't know anything else."

Kelvin pressed his lips together.

Just then, Monica walked out of the office, ready to leave.

"Why are you still here?" Kelvin asked.

Monica looked puzzled. "Why wouldn't I be?"

"Aren't you going with Penelope?"

"Oh, you mean her." Monica smiled mysteriously. "She has plans, and it wouldn't be appropriate for me to tag along!"

Kelvin's face darkened further. "Plans?"

A date?

"Didn't she tell you?" Monica said slyly. "It's Brandon's birthday. She's going to celebrate with him."

Kelvin's face turned completely grim!

She left work right on time to rush to Brandon's birthday celebration!

Jealousy surged within Kelvin, like a storm.

Was Penelope deliberately trying to get back at him?
