Chapter 852 Look, Your Dear One Has Arrived!
Timothy's face changed as he listened, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "You might be onto something..."
He and Monica were definitely more than friends, but not quite lovers.
Back in Crystal City, they spent almost every waking moment together. The roads at the construction site were rough, and he had helped her, held her hand, and even carried her at times.
Yet, their relationship remained stagnant.
"It's because you're not clear about your intentions," Kelvin pointed out bluntly. "What, are you waiting for Monica to make the first move?"
"No way! I wouldn't even dare to think about that!"
Monica's personality was such that if she were to confess first...
It would be like the sun rising in the west or a day having forty-eight hours!
She seemed straightforward and generous, but that was in work and friendship.
When it came to love, she was actually more timid than Penelope.
Monica was just a paper tiger.
"So," Kelvin patted his shoulder, "you know what to do now, right?"
Timothy frowned. "Let me think about it. Don't rush me."
Kelvin had convinced him.
It made sense.
In most relationships, the guy usually takes the initiative.
"If you keep thinking, she'll be gone," Kelvin said coolly. "It's a good thing Monica is clueless about feelings. Otherwise, someone else would have snatched her up by now. How could she still be waiting for you to figure things out?"
Timothy retorted confidently, "It means we're meant to be. No one else can come between us!"
Kelvin snorted.
At this point, he was still being stubborn.
What was he so confident about?
But Timothy's crude logic wasn't entirely wrong. Maybe they were destined to be together, so no matter how much they circled around, they were still tied to each other.
Who stays ambiguous for so many years?
"I've said all I can. Think it over yourself," Kelvin said, looking at him. "If you still can't figure it out, I can't help you. You'll be single forever!"
"Hey, hey, hey, am I that bad?"
"Yes."
Timothy was indignant!
He just lacked experience!
What was Kelvin so smug about? Timothy remembered clearly how clumsy Kelvin was with Penelope back then!
Kelvin only succeeded because he did one thing right—
He got the marriage certificate!
Once they were married, she was his. As long as they didn't divorce, they had all the time in the world to build their relationship.
Kelvin walked into the store. "I sent her to Crystal City to completely offend her, so that she would spend more time with you and build a relationship. In a place like Crystal City, where she knew no one, she had to rely on you. But look at you two now, back to square one."
He hadn't made any progress at all.
At least, Kelvin thought they would be one step away from confirming their relationship by now.
He had overestimated them.
Monica didn't even invite Timothy to the barbecue!
What had Timothy been doing all this time? It was such a rare opportunity to be away together, and he made no progress.
What a waste of his good intentions!
"We've built a solid foundation over the past month," Timothy said. "You don't understand. You've never been in love. This is actually the most wonderful time!"
He followed Kelvin's pace as he spoke.
Kelvin glanced back at him. "I think the best time is when you actually have her."
Not the almost-but-not-quite stage Timothy was talking about!
"You'll get it when you fall in love," Timothy shrugged. "You went straight to marriage, so of course, you can't appreciate that feeling."
"Yeah, don't be too jealous that I got married."
Inside the barbecue joint, the aroma was mouthwatering.
This place had been around for over ten years, famous far and wide, always bustling with customers.
Penelope and Monica had been eating here since their college days.
After a month of instant noodles and random food in Crystal City, Monica was craving this place so much that she insisted on coming here right after getting off the plane!
Kelvin scanned the room for familiar faces.
Soon, he spotted Penelope by the window.
The hot pot was steaming, and there were several beer bottles on the table.
He frowned. Drinking?
Penelope hadn't noticed him at all. She was chatting animatedly with Monica, gesturing wildly, her face full of expression, especially after a few drinks.
Monica was even more uninhibited. Her sleeves rolled up to her shoulders, and she chugged beer straight from the bottle.
In the time it took Kelvin and Timothy to walk in, she had already finished a bottle.
"Your girl can really hold her liquor," Kelvin remarked. "Drinking straight from the bottle."
"Yours isn't bad either."
"Penelope knows her limits."
Timothy scoffed. "Don't be fooled by the two bottles in front of Penelope. Who knows how many rounds they've had, with the bottles already cleared away."
Kelvin's face darkened.
Penelope was mid-sentence when she suddenly felt a chill down her spine.
It was as if a sharp gaze was fixed on her, making her very uneasy.
Before she could turn around, Monica excitedly exclaimed, "Look, your husband's here!"
"What?"
Penelope was startled.
Kelvin was here?
How did he know to come?
Oh no, if she had known, she would have had the waiter clear away the beer bottles!
How could Monica still be laughing?
"Your husband is so handsome," Monica laughed heartily. "So many girls are checking him out! Penelope, even though I'm not entirely satisfied with him, you can't deny his looks are flawless!"
Penelope didn't dare turn around, shrinking her neck, her scalp tingling.
Before she came, Kelvin had reminded her not to drink.
She had agreed readily, but...
How was she supposed to know Kelvin would show up suddenly?
Wait, how did Kelvin know she was here?
As she pondered, she felt a hand on her neck, squeezing lightly. "Penelope."
The deep, magnetic voice of a man.
Penelope took a deep breath, adjusted her expression, and turned around with a smile. "Oh, Kelvin, you came to pick me up? I was just about to call you!"
Kelvin raised an eyebrow. "Did you forget what you promised me?"
"No, I remember," Penelope quickly blamed Monica. "She drank all the beer. She couldn't fit it on her side, so she put it here."
"Do you think I believe that?"
