Chapter 864 She Misunderstood Kelvin

Penelope had a pretty good idea of what was going on.

"So," she asked Thessaly, "at the dinner, everyone was trying to set you up with Kelvin?"

"Yeah, they sat us together. My manager made me wear this tight outfit that showed off my figure, with a bare midriff and shoulders, and the skirt was super short. At the dinner, they even had me toast him."

"And the contract? Did they mention it at all?"

"Mr. Davis did," Thessaly replied. "He said they chose me as the spokesperson for Adoring Cupid, and for the brand's long-term interests, the endorsement would be lifelong. He also wanted my management contract transferred to the Davis Group."

Penelope couldn't help but admire Kelvin in her mind. Classic Kelvin.

It was a textbook negotiation!

She thought Kelvin would negotiate a lower penalty fee or propose a trade-off, promising the agency a lucrative project that would far exceed Thessaly's penalty fee.

But instead...

He didn't spend a dime. He used his status and fame to force the agency to back down and agree!

Thessaly smiled. "Mr. Davis is really impressive. He easily resolved my contract issue. The agency didn't dare oppose him, and they figured that if I followed Mr. Davis, they'd still have some old ties to me, and they could benefit from that."

Actually, Kelvin didn't care about her at all.

Tall, handsome, and wealthy Kelvin was already married, committed to one person for life, and wouldn't change his heart.

Penelope looked at Thessaly in front of her.

Suddenly, she felt that Thessaly was also a pitiful person.

She was at the mercy of her company.

"No wonder Kelvin lent you his jacket..." Penelope said. "He probably couldn't stand it."

"I never wear clothes like that in private, so I was really uncomfortable, constantly adjusting and pulling at it. Mr. Davis saw how uneasy I was and lent me his jacket."

Thessaly quickly added, worried Penelope might misunderstand, "Mr. Davis just handed it to me, and I put it on myself. I've already sent it to the dry cleaners and will return it to Mr. Davis clean."

Penelope stirred her coffee, looking down.

After hearing Thessaly's story, she felt she might have been a bit petty.

"And then..." Thessaly continued, "After Mr. Davis gave me his jacket, he was about to leave. I wanted to see him off, but I was in high heels and rushed. There was a puddle on the floor, and I almost slipped."

"Mr. Davis turned around and caught me just in time. At that moment, we were a bit too close."

"But Mr. Davis quickly let go of me, very politely, and left without lingering."

"Penelope, that's pretty much what happened last night."

Penelope took a sip of her coffee.

Slightly bitter, with a rich aroma.

Then she spoke, "Thessaly, the inner turmoil you're talking about, is it because Kelvin helped you?"

"Yes," Thessaly admitted. "I know Mr. Davis is calm and composed, purely out of politeness and courtesy. But when his jacket was on me, when his hands firmly held my arms, when I leaned into his chest, tightly pressed with no gap, I felt something."

Penelope looked straight at her.

Thessaly's gaze was clear, without any evasion.

"No woman could stay calm in that situation. Penelope, Mr. Davis is so charming, so irresistible. Even I, who consider myself principled, had thoughts I shouldn't have."

"Mr. Davis is the perfect man by any woman's standards. Any woman who interacts with him would probably feel something. I thought I would be an exception, but I overestimated myself."

Penelope listened quietly.

Thessaly laughed self-deprecatingly, "I didn't sleep at all last night. I kept thinking, knowing Mr. Davis is married, and I still wanted to get close to him, to have him. It's shameless."

"Although, at the moment Mr. Davis left, I have suppressed those thoughts and calmed down, I still feel ashamed for having them."

"I'm sorry, Penelope," Thessaly said. "I shouldn't have said all this, but I thought it was better to tell you to avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings in the future."

She felt something, but she knew right from wrong; she knew what moral boundaries were.

There was an insurmountable gap between her and Kelvin.

It was impossible to cross!

Moreover, Penelope had helped her so much; she owed her a lifetime of gratitude!

So, how could Thessaly repay kindness with betrayal?

Kelvin wasn't someone she could seduce even if she wanted to!

Penelope suddenly smiled.

Thessaly didn't know why she was smiling, feeling inferior and timid, she looked away, embarrassed.

Because she was the one at fault.

Penelope had done nothing wrong.

"I understand. Last night, Kelvin, out of politeness, did lend you his jacket and did catch you when you almost fell," Penelope said. "He had no ulterior motives and didn't make any inappropriate moves. It was you who felt a bit of something for him."

Thessaly nodded. "Yes. But, Penelope, now I..."

"No need to explain, I understand."

Penelope's smile grew brighter.

It seemed she had indeed misunderstood Kelvin.

She almost got fooled by those paparazzi photos!

Deep down, Penelope still trusted Kelvin. It was just that, suddenly seeing intimate photos of her husband with another woman, she couldn't stay calm, which was normal.

If Penelope had truly believed the paparazzi photos, she wouldn't have come to see Thessaly at all.

She could have just blacklisted Thessaly!

"Penelope, do you really understand?" Thessaly asked. "I still feel ashamed and guilty for my feelings. I wronged you. But I can promise that nothing like this will ever happen again."

She had already decided that wherever Kelvin was, she would stay far away, never alone with him.

If she could avoid seeing Kelvin, she would!

"Yes." Penelope nodded. "I believe you, and I believe my husband even more."

Thessaly visibly breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good. But you understand, Mr. Davis understands, the agency might not. I can't control what so many people think, but I can ensure that I have no ulterior motives."
