Chapter 838 Mother and Son Compete to Show Affection
Kelvin already had a plan for dealing with the Thessaly situation. He just needed to put it into action. Since Penelope was so eager for him to accomplish something, he would naturally make it happen. It was time to show off his abilities!
Every man hopes to be strong and dependable in front of the woman he loves, to be her support, and to be her shelter from the storm. Kelvin was no different!
At precisely 5:30 PM, there was a knock on the office door.
"Come in."
Kelvin didn't look up, one hand holding a document, the other a pen. Footsteps approached, stopping in front of his desk. After several seconds of silence, Kelvin raised his head, puzzled and slightly annoyed, only to see Penelope's smiling face.
Why was she here?
"I'm here," Penelope said, slinging her bag over her shoulder. "It's time to clock out, honey."
Kelvin leaned back in his chair. "Are you here to wait for me so we can leave together?"
She nodded enthusiastically. "Yep, that's the plan."
How rare! She usually didn't do this! Kelvin suddenly thought that if more Thessaly situations arose, Penelope would have more reasons to ask for his help, and he could enjoy more moments like this!
"How much longer will you be busy?" Penelope asked. "It's so lonely and boring being by yourself. With your adorable, loving wife here, you're so lucky!"
"Are you hungry? Want some water? Tea or coffee?"
"How about some warm water? It's good for your stomach. Too much coffee isn't good."
She quickly poured some warm water into a cup and placed it by his hand, almost feeding it to him. With his beloved by his side, Kelvin had no interest in the documents.
He raised his arm slightly. "A bit sore."
"Coming!" Penelope immediately understood, moving behind him to start massaging. She massaged until her hands were sore and couldn't lift them anymore, just as Kelvin closed the document.
She perked up. "Finished?"
"Yep."
"Let's go home!"
At home, she could be even more attentive and show off her domestic skills. But Penelope had miscalculated. She forgot that Sam was at home, waiting to shower Kelvin with attention!
Back at The King Manor, as soon as they stepped into the villa, they heard footsteps rushing down the stairs. "Kelvin, Mom, you're back! You must be tired!"
Sam darted to Kelvin's side, stopping abruptly. "You came back later than yesterday. Lots of work, huh?"
As he spoke, Sam reached for the slippers. However, Penelope was also reaching for the slippers at the same time. Their hands landed on the same pair, and they both paused, and then looked at each other.
"These are men's slippers," Sam said. "Mom, yours are the ones next to them."
"I know."
"Then let go."
Penelope refused to let go. "I want these."
"Why?" Sam looked at her, confused. "Don't you have your own slippers?"
"I'm getting them for my husband."
Sam replied, "I'm getting them for my Kelvin."
Penelope said, "I grabbed them first."
"No, I did!"
"I did!"
"I did!"
"I did!"
After several rounds of arguing, neither mother nor son let go. Neither would back down!
"What's going on?" Sam frowned. "I've always done this. Why are you suddenly fighting me for it today?"
"What do you mean by fighting? The slippers are here. You can grab them, but I can't?"
"You don't even wear these!"
Sam yanked hard, pulling the slippers from Penelope's hand. Got them! He looked like a victorious general, proudly placing the slippers by Kelvin's feet.
"Kelvin, change your shoes."
Penelope stood nearby, pouting. Kelvin remained calm and composed, as if he was used to this scene. The butler stood frozen in place. Who was he? Where was he? What was he supposed to do? Wasn't it his job to get the slippers for the master? He had done it for decades. Since Sam returned to The King Manor, he had taken over the butler's job, which was fine. The butler was happy to see Kelvin and Sam's harmonious father-son relationship. But why was Penelope joining in today? They were actually fighting over slippers!
Kelvin walked into the living room. He sat on the sofa, reaching for the water cup, but Penelope quickly poured him a cup. "Here."
Kelvin's lips twitched slightly. Holding back laughter was tough and required skill. Seeing this, Sam sighed heavily. "Ugh! Ugh!" He looked dejected, disappointed at missing the chance to pour water! But it was okay! There would be other opportunities! He kept a close watch!
"Kelvin, do you want to watch TV?" Sam decided to take the initiative. "I'll put it on for you! Do you want to watch the evening news or the finance channel?"
"Not right now."
Sam was rejected. He felt even worse.
At that moment, Lucy stood at the staircase, watching the whole scene, her eyes wide and mouth half-open. She had been watching since her parents walked in. It felt like a dream, surreal. Was this the mom and brother she knew? What was wrong with them? Had they gone crazy?
"Lucy," Kelvin noticed her. "Why are you standing there? Come over." He waved her over. Kelvin was always gentle with his daughter.
Lucy walked over, and Kelvin picked her up, sitting her on his lap. "What are you daydreaming about? What are you thinking?"
"I'm watching Mom and Brother."
"Watching them?"
"Yes," Lucy nodded, tugging on Penelope's sleeve. "Mom."
Penelope responded, "What's up, Lucy?"
Daughters were the cutest. Soft, white, sweet, and obedient, they always lifted her spirits!
"Just now, you looked like someone from a TV show."
"Like who?"
Penelope had a bad feeling. At a family dinner, Sam had served Kelvin food, and Lucy said he looked like a servant from a historical drama serving the king. It was a perfect description that had everyone laughing! Now, how would Lucy describe her?!
"Like a queen from a historical drama," Lucy said.
Penelope sighed in relief. "That's good." Not some weird character, but a queen, second only to the king! Respectable and dignified, much better than Sam's servant.
Sam protested, "Lucy, you're biased. You said I looked like a servant, but Mom looks like a queen? Have you ever seen a queen fetching slippers and pouring water? It's always the maids serving the queen; the queen doesn't serve anyone!"
