Chapter 987 Does Brandon Want Me Dead?
"It's still in the original bag. But just to be safe, I left it in my assistant's room."
Kelvin nodded. "So, what did Brandon say to you today?"
"He came clean. Really sincere and serious, he told me he likes me. He doesn't care that I've been with Paul. He admires me, is drawn to me... He also said he hopes I won't hold it against him and Penelope..."
"That's enough," Kelvin cut in. "No need to go on."
Brandon was such a jerk, bringing up that night even while confessing to Thessaly!
Thessaly clutched her phone tightly. "Mr. Davis, even though we both know nothing happened between Brandon and Penelope that night, we still can't prove it... Brandon won't admit it. He keeps telling Paul he was with Penelope! And he won't tell me either!"
"Just hang tight. There'll be a chance."
Now, Thessaly was Brandon's girlfriend.
She could freely go in and out of Brandon's house, ride shotgun in his car, touch his stuff... With that kind of access, what was there to worry about?
The only worry... was Thessaly's safety!
"Be careful and stay sharp," Kelvin advised. "Take your time finding evidence. Don't rush and blow your cover. Otherwise... I might not be able to help you."
Kelvin wasn't sure how far Brandon would go.
If Thessaly slipped up and Brandon found out, she could be in real trouble.
Kelvin vividly remembered the murderous look in Brandon's eyes when they left the set!
"Okay," Thessaly replied. "I'll be careful."
"Even if you don't find anything, it's alright. Don't rush. There are other ways. It might just take longer. Thessaly, your safety is the most important thing, got it?"
Hearing Kelvin's repeated and stern warnings, Thessaly gave a wry smile. "Mr. Davis, are you worried Brandon might want me... gone?"
"Yes. If he even thinks about it, you're in real danger!"
Thessaly spoke deliberately, "If it comes to that, I'll take Brandon down with me."
Her determination caught Kelvin off guard.
Taking him down with her? That was way too risky!
Kelvin was about to speak, but Thessaly beat him to it. "Just kidding, Mr. Davis."
She even chuckled a bit.
Kelvin didn't think it was a joke at all!
"Thessaly," he said seriously, with a warning tone, "if you have that thought, I'll send you away right now. I won't let you stay in LA. Brandon's mistakes aren't worth your life!"
"Why are you so worried about me, Mr. Davis?"
"Because you're Penelope's friend."
If something happened to Thessaly, Penelope would be devastated.
Thessaly's laughter was clearer. "I see, I kind of guessed... I'm so envious. I'm always envious of Penelope. She's so lucky to find true love and have someone by her side for life."
Kelvin frowned.
Thessaly's emotions seemed particularly unstable.
But he couldn't help her.
His gentle comfort was reserved for Penelope alone; only his Penelope could enjoy it!
That was the awareness of a married man!
Besides, he had already warned and reminded Thessaly.
So, Kelvin just listened quietly.
"Mr. Davis, you know, when Brandon saved me today... I almost had a heart attack. The first time I met him, he saved me like that, too."
"He ended up with a nasty bruise on his back, all swollen and full of blood clots, surrounded by more bruises. Luckily, no broken bones, just needs some time to heal."
"I felt so bad for him. Why would he risk himself like that when he clearly doesn't love me?"
"And, um," Thessaly took a deep breath, "Mr. Davis, was the camera falling on me a setup?"
After asking, she held her breath, waiting for Kelvin's answer.
She needed an answer! Need someone to tell her!
Even though... Thessaly already knew deep down, she had already guessed.
She just didn't want to face it, didn't want to admit it.
But asking Kelvin for an answer was bound to be painful.
Kelvin never sugarcoated his words!
"If you're asking, you already know the answer," Kelvin replied. "Why bother asking me?"
"The truth is just what you think. Don't hold any expectations, don't have any illusions."
Thessaly's heart sank completely.
On the other end of the phone, silence.
After a while, Thessaly murmured, "Yeah, right... Mr. Davis, thanks for being so blunt."
Why did she have feelings for Brandon?
Knowing he didn't love her, knowing he was exploiting her, she still foolishly fell for him.
Falling was terrifying.
More terrifying than falling was watching yourself fall, fully aware!
Thessaly had been acting for years, and she never had an accident at a launch ceremony.
Accidents might happen during wire stunts, fight scenes, or water scenes, but a simple ceremony was always safe and calm.
Those cameras were always set up very securely and stably, to ensure safety and avoid hitting people, but more importantly, the equipment was expensive.
Each one costing tens of thousands of dollars, they had to be well protected!
"I don't want to disturb you anymore, Mr. Davis..." Thessaly sighed deeply. "I'll reach out if anything else comes up. I can't contact you too often, or it might raise suspicion."
Kelvin said calmly, "Like I said, because you're Penelope's friend, I'll look out for you. And I'll remind you again, don't fall for Brandon, don't have feelings. While it's still early, while you can control it, turn back."
"Penelope tells me to be with Brandon, but you tell me not to fall for him..."
"Penelope's still in the dark; she doesn't know Brandon's true nature. But you and I, we know the score!"
"Yeah," Thessaly replied, "he's a devil. He could never have feelings for me, not a shred of love. Yet knowing all his true colors, I still can't help but fall for him..."
Maybe that was just how it is. Knowing they shouldn't love, yet they still did. Love until it teared them apart, until they were covered in scars, and only then did they feel the pain.
"Thessaly, your only way out is to find the evidence yourself, reveal Brandon's true nature with your own hands, and watch his downfall, successfully getting your revenge. Anything else is unnecessary."
