Chapter 944 What I Want Is for You to Love Me

From that moment on, there was a star in the sky that belonged solely to them.

Penelope gazed at the small, beautiful planet. "Kelvin & Penelope Star..."

Kelvin stood behind her, his strong arms wrapped around her, holding her close.

Happiness seemed to wrap around her, too.

"Do you like it?" he whispered in her ear.

Penelope nodded. "I love it. It's the most special gift I've ever gotten."

"Not necessarily."

"What?" She blinked, puzzled.

Kelvin tapped her nose playfully. "We've got so many years ahead. I'll give you plenty more gifts. Why do you think Kelvin & Penelope Star is the most special?"

She laughed, her eyes crinkling with joy.

"Kelvin... what else are you gonna give me?"

"Whatever pops into my head, whatever you want, whatever I can."

Penelope reached out, gently tugging at the hem of his shirt. "You've given me a star. What could possibly top that?"

"There’s more. Just wait and see," Kelvin promised. "A gift every year."

"A birthday gift?"

He raised an eyebrow. "Do I need a birthday to give you a gift? I can give you one whenever I feel like it."

That assertive personality... Kelvin was still Kelvin.

Penelope lowered her head, letting go of his shirt. Just as she lifted her hand, she heard him say, "Hold up."

She paused. "What is it?"

"Penelope, I gave you Kelvin & Penelope Star. Aren't you gonna thank me?"

Thank him?

Do couples really need to be so formal?

But since Kelvin brought it up, Penelope figured she might as well say it.

"Thanks." She smiled softly. "I really love Kelvin & Penelope Star."

In the vast, endless universe, there was a star that would always belong to them, always shining for them.

Just thinking about it made her heart feel warm and sweet.

"Not enough." Kelvin shook his head. "Penelope, that's not how you used to thank me."

She was taken aback.

How would she thank him?

She tried to remember, but her mind was blank.

Kelvin usually wanted... her affection.

He liked to tease her endlessly.

But after what happened at the hotel, he wouldn't touch her for a while.

Even if he wanted to, she couldn't handle that kind of closeness.

She would be scared, terrified, reminded of that night.

Seeing Penelope's expression grow more despondent, Kelvin knew she was overthinking again.

"Penelope," he sighed, "let me show you how you used to thank me."

"Show me?"

"Yeah."

Kelvin took her hand, lifting it to hook around his neck.

"Hold on."

Penelope, dazed, just followed his lead.

"Lean in, hold me tight, bring your face closer, don't stay so far away."

Kelvin gave the instructions, and she followed, closing the gap between them until they could hear each other's breaths.

Because of their height difference, Penelope had to look up at him.

"I... I remember now," Penelope said softly. "Yeah, I used to do this."

"No, there's still something missing."

"What's missing?"

"Expression." Kelvin gently cupped her face. "Penelope, that playful look of yours... I can't resist it."

After years of his influence, Penelope wasn't as shy as she used to be.

She would kiss him on the cheek or lips, over and over.

She'd smile, a genuine, pure smile, saying playful things that tugged at his heartstrings.

But now... Penelope always seemed distant, avoiding closeness.

He knew what was on her mind, what she was worried about.

After that night at the hotel, she had changed a lot, becoming more cautious and reserved, no longer as bold and passionate.

The Penelope from before was the one Kelvin loved to see, the one he cherished the most.

He didn't know how long it would take for her to return to her old self, to be truly herself again.

Kelvin knew... it wouldn't be anytime soon. The incident had hurt her deeply, leaving scars that wouldn't heal quickly.

He could only help her heal, bit by bit.

"I..." Penelope understood what he meant, but she couldn't do it.

She said, "I'm sorry."

Penelope wanted to be carefree, to be a pampered princess, knowing that no matter how much she acted out, he would be there, indulging her.

She would act out, and he would laugh.

What a wonderful life, but it was shattered, broken.

"Penelope, the last thing I want to hear from you is 'I'm sorry.' I don't want apologies. I want your love."

Kelvin's lips moved closer. "I want you to love me, always."

"Of course I love you..."

He pressed, "Like you used to?"

Penelope wanted to say yes.

But the words stuck in her throat, unable to come out.

Kelvin, she wasn't the same pure, untainted person she had been. How could she love him as fearlessly as before?

"Penelope..."

Kelvin's lips moved closer.

Penelope stayed still, watching his lips.

He had kissed her more in the past few days than usual.

Penelope understood that Kelvin was trying to show her that he didn't mind, that he never minded.

In his heart, she was still the same, her place unshaken.

Penelope closed her eyes, accepting his kiss.

But this time... Kelvin wanted more.

His breathing grew heavier, his hands restless...

"No... no..."

Penelope turned her head, resting on his shoulder, ending the kiss.

She held his wrist, stopping him from going further.

"Penelope," Kelvin's voice was hoarse, "why not?"

By the calendar, her period was long over. She didn't resist his kisses, so the next step... making love was natural.

Kelvin knew Penelope wouldn't let him touch her anytime soon.

She couldn't handle it.

But he wanted to test her, to see her reaction.

This hurdle had to be crossed.

This thorn had to be removed.

"No, not yet." Penelope shook her head. "Kelvin, give me more time..."

His Adam's apple bobbed. "How much longer?"

He had already given her plenty of time.
