Chapter 1023 You Have Lung Cancer

The detective replied, "Mr. Walker, I was planning to report to you tomorrow. I just got the results around eleven tonight and didn't want to disturb your sleep. Didn't expect you to be up so late!"

"Tell me now!"

"Mr. Davis has a minor health issue," the detective said. "He's got laryngitis, and with all the years of smoking, his lungs are a bit messed up. He's been coughing a lot lately. He went to the hospital, got some meds, and had a bunch of tests done."

"Laryngitis?"

"Yeah," the detective nodded. "I also found out that Mr. Davis is really worried about his health. He sent all his test results abroad to get checked by top-notch doctors."

Brandon's fingers tapped lightly on the table, his smile growing wider. "Have the results from abroad come in yet?"

"They're almost here. If not tonight, then early tomorrow morning."

Brandon asked again, "What are the results from abroad? Is it confirmed to be laryngitis?"

The detective answered, "I'm not sure. The results from abroad are very confidential. Besides, Mr. Davis looks strong and healthy. A cough can't be that serious, right? Maybe he's just overly worried."

Rich people were always afraid of dying.

They underwent various health check-ups and followed specific health regimens every year.

After all, with all that money, they definitely wanted to live a few more years!

Kelvin's wealth was something many people dream of! It would take several lifetimes... no, dozens of lifetimes to spend it all!

Brandon's smile deepened. "What if it's not just laryngitis?"

"What?" The detective didn't quite understand. "What else could it be? Even you, Mr. Walker, get countless check-ups every year. If there were any real issues, they would have been detected long ago, before they got serious."

Brandon shook his head. "No, some rare diseases can't be detected."

"That's true for regular check-ups, but with your high-end, specialized check-ups, they definitely can..."

As he spoke, the detective suddenly realized something was off.

Brandon surely knew more about this than he did.

But Brandon kept emphasizing illness...

So, Brandon wanted Kelvin to really "be sick"?

Brandon leaned back in his chair. "Why do you think Kelvin is so worried? Top doctors and equipment in the country did the tests, but he still isn't reassured and wants foreign experts to review them. Why?"

"Maybe... too much money?" The detective scratched his head. "Anxiety?"

"He himself is worried that he might have a serious illness that can't be detected!"

"So... Mr. Walker, what do you want to do?"

Brandon looked at the detective. "How about we make Kelvin's worries come true?"

The detective immediately understood.

They were going to alter the test results!

No matter whether the results were good or bad, they had to be made worse!

"This... It's a bit difficult to implement," the detective said. "And the results are almost out. Isn't it too late now?"

"It's not too late. We can still do it."

"Mr. Walker, how do you plan to do it?"

Brandon gave a mysterious smile. "Just wait and see."

The next day.

The sky was gray and overcast.

A light drizzle fell, and the wind brought a chilly feeling.

Kelvin appeared at the hospital.

He wore a black suit, very low-key, and a mask.

However, no matter how low-key he tried to be, he stood out in the crowd with his height and presence, impossible to ignore.

Kelvin drove himself alone without bringing anyone.

With the mask on, only his eyes were visible, making him look even sharper and colder.

In the doctor's office.

Before pushing the door open, Kelvin's hand hovered in the air, hesitating for a long time before finally landing on the doorknob.

"Mr. Davis," the doctor greeted him with a smile as soon as he saw him. "You're here early, right on time."

Kelvin's expression was indifferent. "What are the results?"

This was his main concern.

Because of this, he had tossed and turned all night, unable to sleep, his mind heavy with worry, dark circles under his eyes.

The doctor took out a file folder and pushed it towards him. "The results from abroad are in electronic form. I printed them all out and put them in here."

Kelvin just stared at it, not moving.

He asked, "Just tell me, what did the tests find?"

He... didn't dare to look, afraid that his worst fears would come true!

The doctor's expression changed several times.

Kelvin's mood followed suit, rising and falling in tandem.

When you're sick, the last thing you want to see is the doctor showing such an expression!

"Just say it," Kelvin spoke again, his breathing unconsciously lightened. "Whether it's good or bad, I can handle it. No need to hide anything."

He had already prepared himself for the worst.

The doctor adjusted his glasses, paused several times, and finally sighed deeply.

"I have good news and bad news. Which do you want to hear first?"

Kelvin answered without hesitation, "Bad news."

The doctor said, "Mr. Davis, the results from abroad indicate... you have lung cancer."

The word "lung cancer" exploded in his ears like a thunderclap.

The doctor continued, "The good news is, it's early-stage, detected in time. With current medical technology... it can be treated."

"Treated?" Kelvin's lips curled into a slight smile. "Can it be cured?"

"This..."

"Answer me!" Kelvin's voice deepened.

"Mr. Davis, it's cancer, a disease humanity has yet to conquer. No matter how expensive the medication or chemotherapy, cancer can't be cured," the doctor said. "It can be treated, but not cured."

"So, this illness will stay with me."

"Mr. Davis, relax, don't overthink it. Many illnesses are worsened by fear. As long as you take your medication on time and undergo chemotherapy..."

Kelvin had no interest in listening further.

The doctor's words were clearly meant to comfort him!

He didn't need comfort!

"Tell me," Kelvin's eyes darkened as he stared at the doctor. "How long do I have left?"

"Mr. Davis, I... I can't be certain..."

"Give me an approximate time!"

The doctor swallowed nervously, seemingly intimidated by Kelvin's presence.

"Since it's early-stage, if you actively cooperate with treatment... several years, even a decade or more is... is possible. But if it worsens quickly, one or two years..."

The doctor stammered.

But Kelvin understood.

He had cancer, and how long he lived depended on fate.

The cancer cells were already in his body.

If he were lucky, medication and chemotherapy could suppress the spread of cancer cells, giving him some time.

But living healthily to old age... was almost impossible.
