Chapter 964 That Night, Nothing Happened Between You and Brandon
After a brief pause, Sam added, "And Lucy, well, she's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. Guess she got that from you! Lucky for me, I snagged some of Kelvin's genes."
Lucy was stunned.
Penelope was stunned.
'Do guys, no matter how old, possess such a remarkable talent for infuriating women?!'
Kelvin wanted to laugh but tried hard to keep a straight face, causing his mouth to twitch.
Sam noticed the silence after he finished speaking and realized he might've stepped in it.
Uh-oh, looks like he stirred the pot!
"Uh, I'm gonna head to my room now." Sam bolted for the door. "Night, Kelvin, Mom, Lucy!"
The troublemaker made his escape.
Penelope and Lucy exchanged looks.
"Sam is such a pain," Lucy grumbled. "Mom, why don't you give him a beating he deserves?"
"Should I go drag him back and give him a spanking now? Is that even an option?"
Just as she finished speaking, they heard a sound from Sam's room.
The kid had shut the door and even locked it.
"Lucy," Penelope said seriously, "Did you see that? This is what men are like. Arrogant, full of themselves, always making women mad! You must never marry a guy with this kind of attitude."
Lucy looked at her with innocence.
Kelvin chimed in, "Penelope, isn't it a bit early to be telling Lucy this?"
"You gotta start teaching them young. What do you know?" Penelope shot back. "No one taught you to respect and protect women when you were young, which is why you're so cold and unromantic!"
Kelvin went quiet.
Penelope was fuming right now, and it was best not to poke the bear.
But it was Sam who ticked her off, not him. He hadn't done anything wrong.
Just because he and Sam were both guys?!
"Come on, Lucy, Mommy will take you to your room and tell you a bedtime story." Penelope scooped up Lucy. "Time to sleep."
After tucking Lucy in, Penelope returned to the master bedroom.
Kelvin was already half-reclined on the bed, flipping through a book.
"Not asleep yet?" Penelope asked. "Waiting for me?"
"Of course, I want to sleep together."
"You've been in the study all evening. Busy with work?"
Kelvin replied softly, "Yeah."
Penelope didn't press further. She washed up, changed into her pajamas, and lay down beside him.
He reached out and pulled her into his arms.
Just like always.
But... Kelvin's hands started to wander.
"Penelope," his lips brushed against her earlobe, "Is it okay?"
She was startled, her body instinctively tensing up.
Kelvin patiently waited for her response, his breathing light, holding back his desire.
Ever since he found out Brandon hadn't touched her, Kelvin's urge to be close to her had grown stronger!
He had suspected Brandon hadn't succeeded, but after Thessaly spilled everything she had heard, both he and Thessaly could confirm Brandon really hadn't succeeded!
If Brandon had truly been with Penelope, his attitude when answering Paul's questions would have been different!
So, Kelvin felt happy, relieved.
Not just because his Penelope was still untouched, but also because Penelope wouldn't have to feel ashamed or resist his closeness anymore.
"Kelvin..." Penelope's voice was small, tinged with a nasal tone, "Give me a little more time."
His body stiffened.
Then, Kelvin slowly sighed.
She still hadn't moved past it, even though it seemed... that night had long passed, and no one would bring it up again.
But it was still etched in her heart!
"How much longer?" Kelvin asked gently. "Penelope, it's not just about wanting to be close to you. I want you to completely let go of that painful memory and accept me again."
"I'm sorry... It's clearly my fault, but I'm using my fault to punish you."
Penelope's body trembled lightly, unable to face him.
She knew it wasn't good, but she couldn't control it.
Kelvin tightened his arms around her. "Don't say sorry, you did nothing wrong."
He kissed her hair, helped her put on her pajamas, and made no further moves.
The master bedroom fell silent.
Penelope never turned around, always facing away from Kelvin.
It seemed peaceful and harmonious, but in reality, it was a day filled with hidden issues... When would it end?
Kelvin was so good, so good, yet she felt unworthy of him.
She felt deeply insecure.
Penelope didn't sleep well that night, half-awake and half-asleep.
Every time she opened her eyes and saw it wasn't dawn yet, she forced herself to sleep again. This poor sleep quality directly affected her state at work...
Penelope sat in front of her computer, staring at the design drafts, with no inspiration at all.
Forget it, I'll go out and get a coffee, take a walk, and clear my head.
Stepping out of the Davis Group building, Penelope stood by the roadside, waiting for the pedestrian light to turn green. Suddenly, a car stopped in front of her.
She instinctively took two steps back.
But the car window rolled down, revealing Thessaly's face. "Penelope!"
"It's you," Penelope smiled. "Passing by? What a coincidence?"
"No, I came to see you. Got time for a coffee?"
"I was just heading to a café."
In the café, the aroma was rich, and the environment was elegant.
Thessaly was still without makeup. In Penelope's memory, whenever she saw Thessaly privately, she was usually makeup-free.
That's the confidence of a beauty!
"Penelope, I don't have much time. I have to head to the set soon," Thessaly said. "The movie is about to start filming. I need to go for costume fittings and makeup tests. I'll be spending most of my time on set."
This also meant she would be dealing with Paul every day!
Penelope felt a pang of sympathy and gently said, "Thessaly, it will pass. It will."
But would it really?
Penelope couldn't even convince herself.
She didn't know when she would be able to accept Kelvin's touch, to release the resentment in her heart.
Maybe she would never be able to do it in this lifetime.
"I can't move past it," Thessaly shook her head. "But Penelope, you can. Because you are completely innocent!"
Penelope was taken aback.
She had only heard this from Kelvin.
He believed in her unconditionally, stood by her side, but she thought he was just comforting her.
Now... Thessaly was saying the same thing!
Thessaly leaned forward, looking at her with unwavering determination, her voice low. "Penelope, really, trust me. I can't provide solid evidence right now to prove your innocence with Brandon, but I can tell you with certainty that nothing happened between you and Brandon that night."
"You two just slept together, without any physical contact! None!"
