Chapter 1016 You Have Little Secrets Between Father and Son

"Adults' business, kids should stay out of it," Kelvin said.

Sam said, "What?!"

When they need him, they praise him as a good son. But once they're done with him, it's "kids should stay out of it"?!

"Kelvin, you can't treat me like this!" Sam wrapped his arms around Kelvin's waist, jumped up, and clung to him like a koala. "You'd better tell me, or I'll stick to you and never get down!"

Kelvin looked at him expressionlessly.

"I did a great job, didn't I? I made a big contribution," Sam said. "And now I don't even have the right to know what's going on?"

"What does a kid need to know so much for?"

"Maybe I can help!" Sam replied proudly. "Don't underestimate me. When we dealt with that bad woman, Isabella, it was thanks to me. And today, when Angel Thessaly was in danger, I was the one who saved her!"

Kelvin reached out and scooped him up into his arms.

"Yes, you're right. Thanks to you, you stayed calm and handed over the bug without raising any suspicion. You did very well, and I commend you," Kelvin said approvingly.

Sam looked disappointed. "Just verbal praise?"

"What do you want? I'll agree to anything."

"I want to know what happened to Angel Thessaly."

Kelvin pursed his lips and tapped Sam's forehead with his finger. "Why are you so curious?"

"Because I've been thinking about it ever since you left. I can't figure it out," Sam replied. "Angel Thessaly and Uncle Brandon are a couple. She should be safe at the Walker Mansion. Why did she think of finding you through me instead of going directly to Uncle Brandon when she was in danger?"

"Is it because Uncle Brandon couldn't handle it? Or... she didn't want Uncle Brandon to know? What could be so serious that she'd rather tell you than Uncle Brandon?"

Sam was puzzled.

Kelvin said calmly, "I can't tell you yet."

"Hey, Kelvin, if you keep this up, I won't help you next time."

"Are you helping me?"

Sam pouted. "Fine, I'm doing it for the Angel Mansion."

"Keep this matter confidential," Kelvin instructed. "Only you and I know about it."

"Why?"

"There's no need for so many whys."

Sam looked at him curiously. "Kelvin, what are you up to?"

Kelvin just asked, "Will you keep it a secret or not?"

"Yes, yes, I'll keep it a secret," Sam nodded repeatedly. "But you have to promise me that once this is all over, you'll tell me everything!"

Kelvin thought for a moment and agreed. "Okay."

This was his son, who would one day take over the Davis Group. He needed to be trained and developed from a young age, not coddled like a hothouse flower like Lucy.

Boys need to experience more.

Sam was finally satisfied and stopped asking questions.

Kelvin then asked, "Sam, during the time you were in the small town, was Brandon always taking care of you?"

"Yeah, he was really nice. He always bought gifts, clothes, and snacks for Lucy and me. And he often sent money to Ruby to buy us lots of good food."

"Did he visit the small town often?"

Sam shook his head. "He only came once, on Mom's birthday. We mostly kept in touch by phone and video."

Kelvin asked again, "So, in your heart, where does Brandon rank? What position is he in?"

"Well..."

Sam started counting on his fingers.

"Mom first, Lucy second, Grandpa and Grandma tied for third, and..."

Kelvin raised an eyebrow. "I'm not even in the top three?"

"You... barely make it to fifth. Fourth is Grandpa," Sam replied. "Because you bought me a star."

"Thanks."

"You're welcome, Kelvin. So, Uncle Brandon is sixth."

Kelvin snorted. "In your heart, he's just behind me."

"For now, that's the ranking. You need to work hard, and maybe you'll make it into the top three."

Sam patted Kelvin's shoulder. "Keep it up."

Kelvin didn't even look at him and walked straight into the living room.

Penelope saw this and was surprised. "You two are so close today? What happened?"

"Of course," Sam said, wrapping his arm around Kelvin's neck. "We just completed a great event together!"

"What great event?"

"We..."

Kelvin suddenly coughed twice.

"Secret," Sam quickly changed his tune. "Not telling you."

Penelope could see through them and kept looking them over. "It seems you two have a little secret, something even I can't know. Should I be happy or not?"

The usually bickering father and son were now on the same side.

Kelvin coughed again.

"What's wrong?" Sam looked confused. "Kelvin, I didn't say anything. Why are you coughing to hint at me?"

Kelvin remained silent.

His throat was itchy, and he couldn't help it. This cough had been bothering him for a while, but at least he wasn't coughing up blood anymore.

"Come down," Penelope waved. "Your dad used to smoke a lot, and now he's got a cough. Don't catch his germs."

Sam finally jumped down from Kelvin.

He ran over to Lucy. "Lucy, I have a question for you."

"Sam, go ahead."

"In your heart, where does Uncle Brandon rank?"

Lucy looked at him. "Why are you suddenly asking about Uncle Brandon?"

Because Kelvin suddenly asked! Sam was curious to know Lucy's answer, too.

"Just answer my question."

Lucy tilted her head and started counting on her fingers. "Mommy first, Daddy second, you third..."

"What?!" Sam exclaimed. "I'm only third in your heart?!"

"Yes."

"Third is fine, but why am I behind Kelvin? How can Kelvin be second?!"

Sam's fragile heart was deeply hurt.

In his heart, Lucy was second only to their mom.

But in Lucy's heart, he was third, behind Kelvin!

Sam could accept being third, but not if Kelvin was second!

Kelvin smirked. "Good job, Lucy."
