Chapter 900 Stay Away from Brandon as Much as Possible
But he wouldn't tell her just yet.
Penelope asked, puzzled, "Who could it be? First, the intimate photos of you and Thessaly were sent to you. When we didn't fight, they were sent to Mom, Dad, and Grandpa. It's like this person won't stop until they stir up some trouble."
"Exactly. And Penelope, this is just the beginning," Kelvin replied. "The photos didn't cause much trouble, so he won't stop. He'll wait for the right moment to execute his next plan!"
"What could he do next?"
"Not sure. He's in the shadows, and we're in the light, which puts us at a disadvantage. We just have to stay vigilant and not give him any opportunities."
Penelope raised an eyebrow and looked up at him. "Next, this person might send someone even more beautiful and cunning than Thessaly to use the same trick. You didn't fall for it the first time, so he might think it was Thessaly's fault. The second time, he'll be more careful in choosing the right person."
"What man can resist a beautiful woman throwing herself at him, right? Mr. Davis, you better be careful, or you might fall for it."
"Who knows it might not be just one woman, but a group of women. Men fantasize about that kind of thing, don't they?"
Penelope adjusted his suit jacket. "Wear your clothes properly and don't drape them over other women, okay?"
"Put away that gentlemanly demeanor you never had before and keep your cool!"
She was half-joking, half-serious in reminding Kelvin.
As long as he stayed upright, he wouldn't give anyone any leverage.
Kelvin leaned in, his breath warm on her face. "How do you know this person will keep targeting me?"
"Because you did fall for it, and they got the photos. I trust you, so I didn't fight with you, and they didn't succeed."
"Penelope," Kelvin said, wrapping his arm around her waist, "I'm worried that next, they'll target you."
"Me?"
"Yes."
Penelope thought hard. "What could they do to me? Use a handsome man?"
Kelvin's mouth twitched.
"I don't like that either. No man is more handsome than you," Penelope said. "I wouldn't take off my jacket to drape it over a man, nor do I have the strength to help a man who's about to fall!"
Kelvin was helpless.
Penelope's eyes shifted. "Or maybe this person will arrange for something to happen between me and Brandon?"
Kelvin's lips tightened. "Brandon?"
"Yeah." She started to analyze seriously. "I haven't been close with Nathan for years; we're just friends and barely see each other. But Brandon and I are very close. And you've always seen him as a rival."
"If I got drunk, or if something happened to Brandon, and we were alone together, rumors could start spreading that we had a relationship. You might even catch us in the act."
Penelope clicked her tongue. "Then I wouldn't be able to explain it away!"
Kelvin scoffed internally.
Would Brandon set himself up?
He tightened his grip and asked in a deep voice, "Penelope, would you be alone with Brandon, giving the person behind this a chance?"
"I can't guarantee that I won't ever be alone with Brandon. During this special time, I'll try to avoid it and not give anyone any leverage," Penelope said, looking into his eyes. "But if, and I mean if, something did happen between me and Brandon, Kelvin, you have to trust me and stand by my side."
She couldn't imagine being intimate with Brandon.
She believed that even in such a situation, Brandon wouldn't do anything to her.
He was a gentleman, a man of integrity, who wouldn't take advantage of her or do something so low!
Penelope trusted Brandon's character!
Kelvin's eyes darkened.
"Penelope, I trust you, but..."
But he didn't trust Brandon!
Kelvin thought Brandon might set himself up, using despicable and dishonorable means to get Penelope!
Penelope's resolve was strong, but it was just her alone.
What if she was unconscious? What if she was out cold?
Brandon would take advantage!
"But what?" Penelope asked. "Why aren't you continuing?"
"You should try to stay away from Brandon," Kelvin advised. "Penelope, if you can avoid meeting him, do so. If you have to meet, make sure others are present. Don't meet alone."
"Are you wary of Brandon?"
Kelvin pressed his lips together and said, "I'm worried that person might set up both you and Brandon. You wouldn't want Brandon to get caught up in this, right?"
He had to deceive her for now, hoping she'd stay alert.
"Okay." Penelope nodded. "I understand. Not just Brandon, but any other man—I won't meet them alone. Now you can rest easy, right?"
She thought Kelvin was making a big deal out of nothing.
What was there about her worth scheming over?
Her life revolved around work and family, either at the office or at The King Manor, simple and clean.
Kelvin wanted to say more, but Penelope placed a finger on his lips. "Alright, stop overthinking. These are just our guesses, don't scare yourself. No matter what actions or plans that person has, as long as we trust each other, they can't drive a wedge between us."
"Kelvin, I believe you won't betray me or destroy this marriage."
"And I want to tell you that as long as you love me and stay loyal, I'll always love you and be loyal to you. That will never change."
Kelvin lowered his head, his forehead touching hers. "My love for you will never change, Penelope."
Penelope laughed. "We trust and love each other so much, what could separate us? Let that person play their petty tricks; eventually, they'll be caught and punished!"
Looking at her bright smile, Kelvin's heart softened, and he closed his eyes, leaning in to find her lips.
Just as their lips were about to meet, Kelvin felt a tug on his pant leg.
"Kelvin, we need to go to preschool. You're blocking our way!"
It was Sam's voice!
He had his backpack on, one hand in his pocket, and the other hand pulling on Kelvin's pant leg.
Kelvin frowned.
Why was it always Sam interrupting at crucial moments?
He looked at Sam with displeasure.
