Chapter 1018 Do Not Cry, Good Girl

"I know all your bank card passwords."

Penelope thought about it for a moment, but still felt something was off.

"Kelvin, be straight with me," she said, looking up at him and gently pinching his earlobe. "Seriously, no more jokes. Are you doing this because something happened? Or are you trying to prevent something from happening in the future?"

Kelvin knew that his sudden actions would definitely make her suspicious.

Being vague wasn't a solution either.

He glanced at their two kids—one was watching cartoons, and the other was diligently working on a Rubik's cube.

It was a very ordinary scene, yet it was filled with happiness.

Kelvin cherished these moments with his family of four.

He wanted to enjoy them forever; he was afraid of losing them.

"Penelope," Kelvin lowered his head, resting his chin on her shoulder, "the Davis family... It's a grand, wealthy family, and the things involved are far more complicated than they seem on the surface."

Penelope was taken aback.

Since she returned to LA with the kids, she and Kelvin hadn't seriously discussed the Davis family matters.

She asked, "Kelvin, your stepmother and your half-brother have long been unable to stir up any trouble. Now, the main members of the Davis family are your grandfather, you, me, and our two kids."

Such a harmonious family—what hidden dangers could there be?

"But the Davis Group has many relatives from the Davis family," Kelvin said. "Distant relatives, extended family members, and even some on the board."

Penelope asked, "So what?"

Kelvin's Adam's apple bobbed.

After a few seconds of silence, he answered, "If, Penelope, I'm saying if, one day something happens to me—if I become a vegetable or suddenly pass away..."

"Kelvin!" Penelope felt a shiver run through her, a wave of panic washing over her. "Why are you saying such ominous things out of the blue? Don't say that!"

He smiled slightly, his tone softening as he gently stroked her smooth hair.

"Listen to me, Penelope," Kelvin sighed. "I'm just saying if."

"I don't care! You can't say things like that!"

She was terrified.

She couldn't imagine how she would live without Kelvin.

"Kelvin," Penelope looked deep into his eyes, "you know, I used to be very independent, strong, and proud. I would rather endure all the hardships myself than ask anyone for help."

"I was used to facing everything alone, always bearing all the burdens by myself. But you kept telling me that I had you, that I didn't need to be so defensive. You said a woman should stand behind her man."

"You gave me reliance, a shoulder to lean on, a safe harbor. I slowly let go of my strength, nestled into your arms, started accepting your help, and became the woman behind you, letting you shield me from the storms."

"Just when I had fully adapted to this life, needing you, relying on you... you suddenly tell me..."

Penelope's voice was laced with sobs.

She felt like crying.

She shouldn't cry; what was there to cry about over this... but lately, she had truly been spoiled by Kelvin.

Spoiled to the point of being pampered, to the point where she couldn't handle even a little bit of grievance without wanting to cry.

This wasn't Penelope's character at all.

But now, she had been spoiled by Kelvin, becoming very delicate.

Penelope used to think that being too delicate was unbecoming; it was better to be appropriately strong and independent.

Now she felt that being pampered for a lifetime was a blessing and a stroke of luck!

Sniffling, Penelope forced her tears back.

Kelvin could obviously hear the sobs in her voice.

His heart ached deeply.

It hurt, very much... her tears made him feel worse than she did.

"Penelope..." Kelvin kissed the corner of her eye. "I'm just talking about a hypothetical situation, not something real."

"Even hypotheticals, ifs, and maybes are not okay!"

"So dependent on me?" He pinched her nose lightly. "My Penelope, who used never to shed a tear easily, now cries at the drop of a hat... even more delicate than Lucy."

"That's because you spoiled me!"

Kelvin nodded helplessly but affectionately. "Yes, yes, I spoiled you. Don't cry, Penelope, be good."

He coaxed her gently, with extreme tenderness and patience.

This was the woman he loved most; he would give her his life if she asked.

Once Penelope's emotions had calmed down, Kelvin continued, "Penelope, what I'm trying to tell you is that I transferred the shares to you because I'm afraid that if something happens to me in the future, there might be a power struggle within the Davis Group."

"Although," he emphasized, "the likelihood of that is very small."

Under Kelvin's management, the Davis Group was thriving, and he had placed many trusted people in key positions.

And... there was Timothy.

Timothy was his lifelong friend, someone who would never betray him or be blinded by greed.

"But a low probability doesn't mean it's nonexistent," Kelvin continued. "As the CEO of the Davis Group, too many people are watching me. If I fall or something happens to me, many will rush to take advantage and extract benefits from me."

"And by transferring the shares to you, that won't happen. The shares are yours; no one can take them or divide them. When Sam and Lucy grow up, you can pass them on to them."

Penelope understood Kelvin's intentions.

He was thinking long-term, planning ahead.

For a large corporation and a big family to last and be passed down, planning was essential.

"Okay," she sniffled and nodded. "I understand what you're thinking. It's just that when you suddenly talk about leaving, about accidents, I instinctively resist..."

She couldn't accept a future without him!

He had to be there! Always!

"I'm just preparing for the worst," Kelvin replied. "Not just me; you can ask Nathan or any leader of a big company—they all have these considerations. Penelope, it's a very normal thought. Because... no one knows which will come first, tomorrow or an accident."

Perhaps an accident was already quietly brewing, ready to catch him off guard!

"And Penelope, with the shares in your name, you'll be financially secure for life. Even if I... die, I can rest assured knowing you'll have enough money to live very well."
