Chapter 200 Upside Down

"You are right. I'm not strong enough. I'm sorry." Jennifer sighed.

James took Jennifer's hand again, gently patting the back of it, and smiled. "Why are you apologizing to me? If anyone deserves an apology, it's you."

James appeared serious, but his hand secretly caressed the back of Jennifer's hand. He marveled at how her skin felt as smooth as if it had been soaked in milk, a sensation he found quite pleasant.

Jennifer nodded but soon realized something was amiss. James was taking the opportunity to touch her hand. She quickly kicked him under the table and withdrew her hand, glaring at him in embarrassment and anger. "Hey, where do you think you're touching?"

James chuckled awkwardly and said, "I'm sorry. I just couldn't help but do it."

The two intern doctors, who had initially considered resigning from the clinic, felt deeply ashamed after hearing James's words. They had taken an oath before studying medicine, but their convictions had wavered. Their faces turned red, and they admired James even more.

They didn't know that Jennifer's acupuncture skills were taught by James. They only knew that James was Jennifer's husband and usually worked as an assistant in the clinic, doing menial tasks. Initially, they looked down on James a bit, but after hearing his words, they immediately changed their minds.

For the next two days, the Hall of Benevolent Medicine remained quiet, with few visitors.

Meanwhile, the clinic next door grew increasingly busy, even attracting some patients who had previously come to the Hall of Benevolent Medicine.

After James's guidance, Jennifer became much more relaxed. Since she did not run the clinic for profit, she was happy to enjoy this rare leisure time so as to save her energy for subsequent diagnosis and treatment of patients in the future.

However, Dennis and Kaitlyn didn't share this perspective. They believed that running a clinic was also a business, and no patients meant no business and no income, which was unacceptable for them.

They were anxious and even began to urge Jennifer to adopt the same methods of the clinic next door.

Jennifer refused them firmly.

One day, the Hall of Benevolent Medicine opened as usual and was as quiet as ever. James and Jennifer were reading newspapers when they suddenly heard the sound of a heated argument outside. They exchanged glances and, with a tacit understanding, decided to go out and see what was happening.

It turned out the argument was coming from the clinic next door.

"My dad took the medicine from here and ended up like this. You must take responsibility!"

"Yeah, my uncle was always in good health. He just suffered from mild hypertension. A few days ago, he had a headache and came here for treatment. After taking the medicine you prescribed, he had an incident the next day. What kind of clinic is this that charges so much, and now you've made my dad worse. You must take full responsibility, or we'll call the police!"

A crowd had gathered at the clinic's entrance. In the middle of the crowd was a wheelchair with an old man sitting in it. His face was pale and sickly, and his expression was stiff.

Moreover, his lower body was also rigid, seemingly paralyzed and motionless.

James immediately recognized that the old man had suffered a stroke. His condition had worsened instead of improving, leading to partial paralysis. If he was not treated promptly and continued to take  the wrong medications, he could become completely paralyzed, making it nearly impossible to treat.

Jennifer, as a professional doctor, also recognized that the old man had suffered a stroke, but she couldn't determine if he could still be treated.

Two doctors emerged from the clinic next door, frowning and scolding, "What are you doing here, making such a racket! You're disturbing other patients. If something goes wrong, can you take responsibility?"

The doctor speaking was the same one who had been the most arrogant the previous day. He wore a white coat and, without asking any questions, immediately started scolding and intimidating that family.

If they were ordinary people, they might have been intimidated by his demeanor. But the old man's family members also had some power. They were not intimidated; instead, they became even angrier. A strong man among them  grabbed the doctor's collar and shouted, "You quack! How dare you blame us? If anything happens to my dad, I'll make sure your clinic shuts down!"

The doctor, who had been so arrogant just moments before, was immediately frightened by his threat. He quickly said, "Let's talk this out. Please let go of me first. Let me examine the patient. If it is indeed our  fault, we will take full responsibility. You don't need to worry."

Upon hearing the doctor's words, the family member's expression softened a bit, and he let go of the doctor.

He then pointed to the old man in the wheelchair and said, "Look at what you've done to my dad. He could walk just fine yesterday, and he woke up like this!"

The two doctors, upon seeing the old man's condition, exchanged a grave look. They were clearly uneasy, as it was evident that the man had suffered a stroke.

One of the doctors carefully examined the old man, and his expression grew even grimmer.

After exchanging another look with his colleague, he furrowed his brow and said, "What happened? How could you make your dad paralyzed? This has nothing to do with our clinic!"

"What! Are you trying to shirk responsibility? My dad was in great health until he was treated at your clinic!"

"Exactly! Ever since my husband took the medicine prescribed by this clinic, he's become like this. Today, he can't even speak properly, and his lower body is completely immobile!"

"It wasn't you two who prescribed the medicine; it was an older doctor. He told us my dad had a minor ailment and that his medicine would cure him quickly. Now look at what happened!"

"Bring that quack out here! We demand an explanation!"

The family members were all very agitated, shouting loudly.

"Hey, hey, hey, calm down. Violence won't solve anything."

However, the family members remained agitated, demanding an explanation.

At the Hall of Benevolent Medicine, Jennifer watched with satisfaction and said, "That's great. Karma has finally come to them."

The two intern doctors also clapped and cheered, "Dr. Johnson is right. He said they would get into trouble sooner or later."

James also laughed. It was not a trivial issue to have treated an old man to the point of paralysis. If not handled properly, it could lead to the clinic's closure, fines, or even imprisonment.

Moreover, this old man was likely not the only patient with issues. Many other patients probably had problems, too. When more victims came forward, those three unscrupulous doctors would be out of the medical field.

James had no sympathy for such unethical individuals.

At that moment, a black car pulled up, and a man got out. It was the elderly  doctor. Seeing the crowd at the entrance, he immediately frowned and said discontentedly, "Who are you all? And what are you doing here?"

The agitated family members saw him and swarmed around, shouting and cursing.

"Guadalupe Diaz, you quack! Look at what you've done to my dad. I'm telling you, if you don't fix this, we're not done with you!"

The doctor named Guadalupe finally felt fear. Seeing the old man in the wheelchair, he was also startled and felt a sense of foreboding.

'Could I really have caused this? It's impossible! The medicine I prescribed is standard, perhaps a bit potent, but it wouldn't cause paralysis!' he thought to himself.

With over ten years of medical experience, his psychological resilience was much stronger than the two younger doctors. He immediately said, "My medicine couldn't have caused paralysis. You must have taken some other medication in between."

At the Hall of Benevolent Medicine, James's heart sank when he heard this. He quickly asked Jennifer, "Jennifer, did this old man come to our clinic before?"

Jennifer hadn't yet grasped James's concern and nodded. "He came to our clinic last week. I remember him well; he's a very kind old man. He was in good health, just had a headache."

"What medicine did you prescribe him?" James continued to ask.

Jennifer frowned and said, "Are you suggesting that my medicine caused his paralysis? That's impossible! I prescribed very mild herbal medicine, mainly for nourishment. It couldn't cause paralysis."

She then told James the prescription.

After hearing it, James confirmed that Jennifer's prescription was indeed fine, but he still smiled wryly. "Your prescription is fine, but as long as you prescribed any medicine for him, they can use it against us."

"You mean?" Jennifer was startled and quickly said, "They'll blame us for it?"

James nodded. "Most likely."

As expected, just as James finished speaking, one of the family members said, "We didn't take any other medicine, but before this, we were treated at the Hall of Benevolent Medicine and took their herbal medicine."

Guadalupe clapped his hands, his eyes lighting up, and loudly said, "That's where the problem lies! The patient's paralysis has nothing to do with our clinic. It's caused by the herbal medicine from the Hall of Benevolent Medicine! I've always said those doctors are quacks who don't know how to treat patients. It seems I was right!"
