Chapter 305 Disaster Strikes
"Haha, dude, you look like a freakin' ghost! You're so damn ugly!" Dorian pointed at James, laughing his ass off like James was just some joke.
James's face twisted. Getting roasted like that right to his face? Yeah, that was a no-go. He might be chill, but he sure as hell wasn't a doormat.
Back when Dorian was his neighbor, he always took shots at James, especially when Jennifer was around. James never liked the guy, especially since Dorian was always trying to hit on Jennifer.
Luckily, Jennifer couldn't stand him either and treated him like trash, so Dorian never got anywhere with her. Otherwise, James would've dealt with him a long time ago!
Now, after two years of not seeing each other, Dorian had the nerve to diss him face-to-face. If it weren't for Leopold and Eirian, James would've slapped him right then and there. Now that his five-year term was up and the seal was lifted, he didn't have to hold back anymore.
Leopold lost it. He slammed the table, making the teacups rattle. "Dorian! How dare you talk to James like that? You looking for trouble? Apologize to him right now!"
But Dorian, acting all laid-back, didn't give a damn about Leopold. With his hands in his pockets and his head tilted, he sneered, "Apologize? Sure! I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said you look like a ghost. That was wrong 'cause you're even uglier than a ghost—more like a monster."
James stared at Dorian, his face blank. Instead of getting mad, he just felt sorry for Leopold and Eirian for having such a useless son.
One look at Dorian and James could tell the guy was pale from too much drinking and partying. Even though he was drenched in cologne, it couldn't hide the cheap scent of women on him. His spirit was weak, clearly from being a rent boy.
And it looked like Dorian was about to hit some serious bad luck soon.
A person's fortune and mental state were tight. Those with bad luck often had weak spirits and were about to face trouble or even disaster.
Dorian was about to get hit with some serious trouble, all because he pissed off the wrong person. Disaster was coming for him.
If Dorian was on his own, he wouldn't escape this mess—at the very least, he'd break a limb. But since he was Leopold and Eirian's son, and they were good people who had treated James well when they were neighbors, earning his gratitude and respect. Now, at the most critical moment, they ran into James. It was like James had become their savior, helping their son Dorian through the crisis.
"What are you laughing at?" Dorian asked.
Seeing James still able to laugh, Dorian got even more ticked off. He'd always hated James, mostly 'cause he was jealous that this so-called loser snagged a babe like Jennifer, while he, despite being good-looking, never got any respect from her.
Now, seeing James's scarred face, he felt a twisted sense of joy.
He figured by roasting James, he'd get him all riled up. But nope, James just frowned a bit and stayed cool, which only made Dorian more annoyed.
James grinned and said, "You've pissed off the wrong people. I'd suggest you get outta Dodge before your enemies come knocking. You're toast otherwise."
Dorian's eyebrows twitched. He felt a mix of guilt and surprise, thinking, 'How the hell does this loser James know I ticked someone off? No way! Nobody knows about that. He must be bluffing. Yeah, he's gotta be guessing!'
Feeling more confident, Dorian sneered, "You trying to scare me? That's hilarious. You, a loser, trying to scare me? Know your place."
Eirian, who was cooking in the kitchen, heard the ruckus and stormed out, yelling at Dorian, "Dorian! Shut up! James got his face burned saving someone. He's a hero. Look at you, wasting your life away with trashy women! Leopold and I are ashamed of you!"
Dorian's face darkened instantly. "What did you say? Say it again if you dare!"
He looked like he was ready to throw down, not even caring that it was his own mom.
Seeing this, James clenched his fists, itching to smash Dorian's face into the ground. He couldn't stand such a disrespectful jerk!
If Dorian really tried something, James swore he'd beat him up, even with Leopold and Eirian there.
Eirian, scared by Dorian's glare, took a couple of steps back. "Don't do anything stupid. I'm your mother!"
Dorian snorted, full of disdain.
Eirian went on, "Today, Leopold and I got scammed. The other party demanded fifty grand from us. Luckily, James showed up just in time to help us out. James is a hero to our family. You can't be so rude."
But Dorian wasn't buying it. "Yeah, right. Like this loser James could help you out? Do you think I'm an idiot? I don't wanna waste my breath on you. I'm hungry. Hurry up and cook. I need to eat and then crash. I'm beat."
He was full of impatience, bossing Eirian around, showing zero respect for his parents.
James felt a surge of anger and was about to lay into him when he heard a noise from the hallway.
James squinted, and three seconds later, the front door was kicked open with a bang.
