Chapter 165 We Shall Never Meet Again
"Are you threatening me?" Jared finally noticed something was wrong, his face darkening as he glared at James, emanating a strong sense of hostility.
James looked utterly astonished. "Threatening you? You must be joking, right? You're a big boss, a tycoon. What could I possibly use to threaten you? Besides, this is your turf, with a dozen big guys protecting you. How could I threaten you? And it was you who asked me to come. How did it suddenly turn into me threatening you..."
After he said this, many people felt James's words made a lot of sense and even began to sympathize with him.
Jared's mouth hung open, his expression stiff. The anger that had been boiling within him dissipated significantly. Indeed, James was just an ordinary person; what could he use to threaten him?
Then, he heard James mutter under his breath, "I thought you were a real tycoon. If you're broke, I won't ask for your money anymore."
Jared's mouth twitched twice, furrowing his brows. He then said, "Two million dollars. You leave Harmony from now on, and tell me who the guy in the white suit is."
James also frowned. "Two million dollars?"
"What, is that too little for you?" Jared's gaze turned icy.
James was taken aback to realize that two million dollars to Jared was like two hundred dollars to an average person.
Pretending indifference, James said, "It's not that it's too little, but last time, that handsome guy in the white suit gave me three million dollars."
Jared snorted coldly and said, "You dare bring that up? You took his money, and yet you didn't leave Harmony. That's deceit! I warn you, I'm not like others. If you dare to go back on your word, I guarantee you will die!"
Once again, he exuded a menacing look, but James was completely immune to it, which left Jared extremely frustrated.
He seriously suspected that James was a fool who couldn't sense his aura, which was why he could remain so calm.
James, seeing the helpless expression on Jared's face, couldn't help but laugh inwardly.
But he couldn't understand what Jared was thinking, still blabbering so much? He thought Jared was going to beat him up, which would be perfect for stretching his muscles. It had been a long time since he had a fight, and his fists were itching.
Jared had no idea what was going through James's mind; otherwise, he would have been infuriated.
"I didn't go back on my word. Last time, that person just told me not to contact Harmony anymore, and I did that. I even blocked her on Facebook. It's Harmony who keeps contacting me, so I'm not breaking any rules," James said with a chuckle.
"You..." Jared was momentarily stunned. Looking at James's smile, he couldn't help but think he resembled a cunning fox, too damn sly!
James continued. "Mr. Perry, as long as you pay me enough, I guarantee to cut all ties with Harmony, never contact her again, and never see her again. How about that?"
With that, he opened his right palm, pretending to examine it, signaling to Jared that he wanted five million dollars.
Jared suddenly realized he might have misjudged James. This guy wasn't an honest person at all; he was a sly fox. James was the first person to extort Jared like this.
What was worse, Jared had no way to deal with him, which made him even angrier!
Beating James up wouldn't be a good choice. If word got back to Harmony, it would only damage his image further.
At this moment, a man nearby leaned in and whispered something in Jared's ear. Jared's eyes lit up, and he said, "James, I can give you five million dollars. But you must cut all ties with Harmony. You can't contact her, you can't answer her calls, you can't meet her, and you can't have any further entanglements with her!"
"Agreed," James replied without hesitation. He had no intention of getting involved with Harmony anyway, so why wouldn't he agree?
But Jared didn't stop there. He squinted his eyes and stared intently at James. "Besides that, I need you to do one more thing. If you do it, I'll give you the five million dollars."
He took out a check and personally wrote five million dollars on it, placing it in front of James.
James was a bit curious and asked, "What is it?"
Jared smirked wickedly, "I want you to call Harmony right now."
After hearing the specific details of Jared's request, James gasped.
Jared wanted him to call and berate Harmony, making her resent him.
Seeing James deep in thought and not as composed as before, Jared finally felt a sense of triumph.
'With your little tricks, you dare to show off in front of me?' Jared smiled inward.
James chuckled inwardly, not showing it on his face, and said in a serious tone, "Do you really want me to do this?"
"What do you think?" Jared smiled gleefully.
James pretended to hesitate for a long time, as if making a significant decision, then suddenly grabbed the five million dollar check, looking as if he was ready to go all out. "Fine, I'll do it! With these five million dollars, I can find any woman I want in the future!"
He took a deep breath, rubbed his face with a look of resolute sacrifice, and made the call.
Soon, the call was connected, and James put it on the speakerphone. Everyone could hear Harmony's voice, "James? I can't believe you're calling me."
Hearing this, Jared felt a bit more at ease. It seemed James hadn't gone back on his word and hadn't contacted Harmony proactively.
James said, "Harmony, we shall never meet again."
"Hmm? What are you talking about?" Harmony's tone was displeased.
James glanced back at Jared, then continued, "Let's not meet again in the future."
"Why?" Harmony's voice began to sound uneasy.
"Because I don't want to continue like this!" James's tone became resolute and cold.
"James, are you stupid or something? You called me for this?" Harmony scolded.
"That's right! I've thought about it for a long time, and now I've finally made up my mind," James said. "You're not even pretty, your temper is terrible, and you always act like you're above everyone else, as if everyone owes you money. You're really annoying, you know?"
Harmony wasn't stupid. Hearing this, she naturally realized his tone was weird. Most likely, someone was threatening James to say this.
"Is someone threatening you to say this? Kevin Turner? Or Jared?" Harmony said in a serious tone.
James was a bit surprised. He didn't expect Harmony to catch on so quickly.
Jared, standing nearby, immediately panicked and took two steps back.
James moved the phone away and mouthed to Jared. "What now?"
