Chapter 360 Jennifer's Affirmation
Dorian was straight-up freaked out. He used to have a thing for Jennifer—who wouldn’t, with her being all gorgeous and stuff? But now, he wouldn’t even dare think about it.
Remembering how James acted all bossy at his place that day, he got super jittery, looking around like a scared cat, worried James might somehow hear him.
Dennis was caught off guard, not expecting Dorian to react like that. He asked, all curious, "DDidn’t you used to have a crush on Jennifer and even tried to date her?"
Hearing this, Dorian got even more freaked out, shaking his head like crazy and explained, "No way. You can’t say that. I’ve always seen Jennifer like a sister. How could I even think about liking her? No way. Absolutely not."
He was denying it so hard, sweating bullets, looking pale, and his eyes darting around like he was scared out of his mind.
Dennis and Kaitlyn were totally confused. Was this even the same Dorian they knew?
They glanced at Leopold and Eirian, who quickly jumped in, "Yeah, don’t say that. When did Dorian ever like Jennifer? That’s totally impossible! Dorian’s always respected James, like a big brother. He wouldn’t dare go after Jennifer."
Hearing Leopold’s words, Dennis and Kaitlyn were even more puzzled, thinking they might be dreaming.
Since when did James become Dorian’s big brother? Besides, Dorian’s the one who always bullies James in the neighborhood, mocking him every chance he gets.
Dennis and Kaitlyn weren’t dumb. They quickly figured out something was up with Leopold’s family acting all weird. Dennis straight-up asked, "Leopold, just spill it. You brought all these gifts, what do you need my help with?"
Leopold’s family exchanged looks, and then Leopold spoke up, smiling, "Nah, we don’t need anything, Dennis. You’re overthinking it. We’re just here to say thanks."
"Thanks?" Dennis and Kaitlyn were even more confused.
"Yeah," Leopold said with a grin.
"But when did I ever help you?" Dennis scratched his head, totally lost.
Leopold realized Dennis was confused and smiled, saying, "What? James didn’t tell you?"
"James?" Kaitlyn was puzzled, too.
Dorian chimed in, "Yeah, James helped our family a lot. We’re mainly here to see James. By the way, where is he? Not home?"
Speaking of James, Dorian got all excited and edgy.
Since that day, he’d been dying to see James, to get on his good side. As long as he could please James, he wouldn’t have to worry about his future.
But hearing this, Dennis and Kaitlyn felt things bizarre, sitting there with these complicated looks.
Seeing them not saying anything for a while, Dorian asked, all disappointed, "So, is James not home?"
They were mainly there for James. If he wasn't around, all those gifts they brought would be kinda pointless.
Just as Dennis was about to say something, a voice filled with barely-contained excitement came from behind, "When did you see James?"
Everyone turned around and saw Jennifer, looking all excited. Seeing how much weight Jennifer had lost, Dorian was stunned but quickly looked away, saying, "We saw James not too long ago."
Then, his family started recounting the day they met James. After hearing it, Jennifer and the others were stunned. Dennis frowned and said, "That's impossible. James was so badly burned he couldn't even take care of himself. How could he be fighting bad guys?"
Dorian quickly said, "It's true. Even though James has scars on his face, his body is super strong, no problems at all. He's really powerful. Especially later, even the big local boss Kieran was super humble in front of him, like James' subordinate. By the way, Jennifer, where's James now? We're mainly here to find him."
Hearing Dorian's words, Dennis and Kaitlyn were shocked. This news was too much for them to process. Jennifer bit her lip, her eyes a bit red, looking really emotional.
Seeing this, Dorian's family realized something must've gone down between James and Jennifer.
Dorian cautiously asked, "Jennifer, did you have a fight with James?"
After all, anyone would think that in this situation.
Kaitlyn sighed, "It's all our fault, James—" Jennifer cut her off, "James and I didn't fight. We're very much in love. He just has something to do and left temporarily. He'll be back later."
Her words were kinda off, making the atmosphere awkward for a moment.
Leopold's family could tell there was something up between James and Jennifer, but they wisely pretended not to notice.
After a bit, Jennifer asked, "Leopold, Eirian, when you saw James, was he okay?"
Her question totally exposed her earlier lie, but Leopold and the others weren't dumb enough to call her out. They just replied honestly, "He was fine. I heard he went through a fire?"
"Yeah, he went through a fire and saved seven kids." Jennifer said this with a mix of pride and heartbreak.
Then, she learned from Leopold and Eirian that James was pretty much like a normal person now.
Honestly, hearing this, she felt a lot better and more certain that the guy named Ulysses she saw at the Hall of Benevolent Medicine was definitely James.
