Chapter 160: The Doctors' Conference

James smiled modestly and said, "It's just a trivial skill, nothing worth mentioning."
"Haha, James, if that's what you call a trivial skill, then I must know nothing about medicine." Edwin laughed heartily. He then asked curiously, "James, if I'm not mistaken, those skills on needles you used weren't the same technique you used before, right?"
Seeing Edwin's wide eyes fixed on him, James decided to satisfy his curiosity.
He replied, "Indeed, they were not. These are some inventions of mine."
Edwin, with a look of realization, immediately asked, "What's the reason for that? Is the former technique not good enough?"
"It's not that," James said with a bitter smile. "It's just that the former technique is too aggressive. While it can cure the girl eventually, it would also cause some damage to her body, making it not worth the cost. So, I used a gentler technique. Although it takes longer, it's better for her body."
Edwin suddenly understood and exclaimed, "That's very thoughtful." He then expressed his admiration, clasping his hands together. "You're amazing, I truly admire you."
That Edwin would express admiration for James was surprising not only to James but also to everyone present. Especially Derrick, who was kneeling on the ground, widened his eyes in disbelief. He could be said to know Edwin better than anyone else in the world, and he knew how proud Edwin was. Even professors from the capital couldn't earn his admiration.
'But now, Edwin is expressing admiration for James?
'And James is younger than me, he is inexperienced at all.
'Why? Just because he knows that needle technique?
'But it's just a needle technique. What's so great about it? If I dedicate myself to learning it, I could master it, too!'
A series of thoughts popped into Derrick's mind.
Derrick was unconvinced. He had never felt so unconvinced in his life.
Jennifer, on the other hand, was dumbfounded. As a doctor in Lindwood City, Jennifer knew how skilled Edwin was and how famous he was in the medical field. He was even more famous than the heads of major hospitals. The key point was that Edwin was famously proud. Many top hospitals offered him high salaries to join them, and various medical universities invited him to be a professor, but he refused them all.
But now, Edwin said he admired James. This was crazy for Jennifer to realize that.
Even though Jennifer knew James was quite skilled and had seen James cure Brandon with her own eyes, the scene before her still left her stunned and deeply shocked.
James was also embarrassed, quickly waving his hand. "Mr. Wheeler, you're too kind. I'm just an ordinary doctor."
Edwin shook his head, his expression serious. "That's not true. You deserve my respect just for your excellent needle technique and your attitude of always thinking about the patient."
James smiled bitterly. Although Edwin wasn't trying to flatter him, he did feel quite embarrassed. It was a bit awkward for a humble man like James.
Alan then took a deep breath, bowed deeply to James, and said sincerely, "Thank you, Mr. Smith, for curing my daughter. I am deeply grateful."
His wife also bowed to James in gratitude. James quickly said with a bit flustered feeling, "There's no need to thank me; it's my duty to save lives."
Jennifer, standing to the side, watched this scene with great joy. The thought that James was her husband filled her with pride and delight. Unconsciously, her gaze towards James grew softer, the previous coldness and rejection almost completely vanished.
Next, Alan's family invited James and Jennifer to stay for dinner. Unable to refuse their warm invitation, they agreed to stay. Edwin also stayed, but Derrick couldn't bear to stay any longer. After receiving Edwin's permission, he left Alan's house in a hurry, looking utterly embarrassed.
After Luna was given a hot bath and a meal, she returned to normal condition. Her drastic improvement left the whole family in awe.
During dinner, Jennifer took the opportunity to propose a collaboration. Alan agreed without hesitation and even offered better terms, giving Jennifer five years at the cost price. Jennifer was so stunned by this generosity that it took her a while to recover.
This news was undoubtedly a huge surprise for Jennifer, and she was so excited that she drank a couple more glasses of wine.
After dinner, Edwin pulled James aside and said, "James, next month, there's a doctors' conference in Pearl Peak City. If you have time, you should come and attend."
James was surprised and asked, "A conference?"
"Yes, haven't you heard of it?" Edwin was a bit taken aback.
James shook his head. "Never heard of it. Is it important?"
Edwin nodded seriously. "Very important. It's an annual event where doctors from different cities come together to exchange ideas, debate, and compete to prove their skills. Unfortunately, in recent years, the doctors of other cities have become increasingly dominant, and more people are joining their ranks. Our side is no longer as glorious as it once was. This year, we have very few doctors participating and almost no young ones. It's just us old folks holding on."
At this point, Edwin's face showed a sense of desolation and melancholy.
James listened to Edwin and fell into thought, not immediately agreeing.
Edwin continued. "With your participation this year, we can definitely make a big impression at the conference and suppress those doctors from other cities, showing them our strength."
Despite his age, Edwin spoke with fervor and determination.
James, feeling touched by Edwin's passion, said, "Alright, if I have time, I'll be there."
He didn't bother with modesty, as being too polite would seem insincere.
As they left Alan's house, Jennifer curiously asked, "What did Mr. Wheeler say to you just now? It seemed so mysterious."
