Chapter 454 Are You Reluctant to My Return?

The next moment, after the shock, the new gatekeeper and the four gardeners were all enveloped in fear.

They had the audacity to insult James and even attempted to assault him. They cosidered they were doomed! With James's personality, he would definitely punish them!

Although James had been gone for five years, they occasionally heard the servants mention James's personality—violent and ruthless. Anyone who offended James never had a good ending.

With this, they trembled all over, threw their weapons far away, and knelt in front of James without hesitation.

"James, I'm so sorry."

"I deserve to die for not recognizing you!"

"Please, spare us, please."

They begged for mercy while striking their own faces, consumed by fear.

James felt quite speechless about this scene. Yesterday at the Serenity Haven Hotel, Archer was like this, and now back at his own home, it was still the same scene.

It was evident that he had been away from the Smith family for so long, almost five and a half years. Even the gardener had been replaced. If it weren't for Nash recognizing him, he would have had to get in by himself.

What a mockery.

If it were in the past, he would have severely punished these servants for such an offense. But now, he had become much more magnanimous and no longer had such thoughts.

Actually, James wouldn't be so magnanimous as to help them up. Being magnanimous didn't mean he had no principles. He waved his hand and said coldly, "Nash, inform Zaiden to dismiss the five of them."

"Got it, James!" Nash responded promptly and sincerely

At the same time, Nash felt fortunate that he had recognized James immediately and didn't rush up with these idiots. Otherwise, his position would have been in jeopardy too.

Then Nash became puzzled. Was this still the same violent and impulsive James he knew? According to James's previous personality, these five people would have been crippled if not dead for offending him. Now they were just being fired?

Nash felt unbelievable.

James didn't care what these servants thought. He walked in slowly.

His eyes wandered around and found that after five and a half years, there were quite a few changes in the manor. Even the banyan tree next to the rockery was gone.

The commotion outside drew the attention of those within the house. As James approached, two individuals hurried out. One being Zaiden and the other the nanny. Upon seeing James, their faces displayed utter astonishment.

"James?" Zaiden was so excited that he trembled all over, spilling the tea he was holding.

The maid beside him was also dumbfounded, staring at James in disbelief.

They had both been working for the Smith family for a long time, especially Zaiden, who had almost watched James grow up. Seeing James return, they couldn't react for a moment.

Seeing old acquaintances, memories flooded James's mind. He said with a smile, "Zaiden, Aunt Baker, I'm back."

Hearing James's call and confirming it was indeed him who had returned, they were overcome with excitement, their eyes welling up with tears.

"James, you're back. That's great!" Zaiden exclaimed.

"James, please come in. I'll call Saxon and Erin right away!" The maid turned and ran back into the house to make a call.

Zaiden scurried over to help James with his luggage. When he saw James's worn-out travel bag and his attire, he was stunned again, rubbing his eyes, doubting what he saw.

Was this really still James, wearing such poor clothes and using such a shabby travel bag?

 It was unbelievable.

"I can carry it myself," James said with a smile. "By the way, how is Alistair's health? Is he at home?"

Zaiden suppressed his shock and nodded vigorously, "Alistair is in good health, just like before. Alistair is not at home today; he went out. James, Alistair will be very happy to see you back!"

James smiled slightly and didn't respond. Instead, he asked, "Who else is at home now?"

"Besides us servants, Second Madam Caroline Wright is also at home." Zaiden answered respectfully. Caroline was Wylie's mother and James's aunt. As for the others, they were just some kids.

James nodded and walked into the house. The maid had just finished her call and came up excitedly, "James, I called Saxon and Erin. They are very overjoyed to know you're back and are rushing home now!"

"Okay." James was also very excited. He hadn't seen his mother for a long time and wondered how she was now. When he received Alistair's task to leave the City of Mysteries, only Alistair and his father knew, not even his mother. So he didn't have time to say goodbye. He wondered if his father had secretly told his mother over the past five years. If he had, it would be fine. If not, his mother must have been very sad.

The news of James's return spread throughout the Smith family in less than a few minutes, and all the servants knew and rushed over.

The Smith family's manor was large, with over a hundred employees, including guards, gardeners, Zaiden, maids, drivers, chefs, and more.

At this moment, all the employees came into the house, lined up in two rows, and greeted respectfully to James, "Welcome home, James!"

They spoke in unison, very loudly, shaking the whole house.

Soon, a sharp voice came from upstairs, "Shut up! What's wrong with you?"

Then, a slender woman appeared upstairs, with full of anger. She didn't see James at first but saw a large group of servants gathered in the hall and immediately scolded, "Who allowed you in here? Do you all not want to work here anymore?"

Zaiden suppressed his excitement and said, "Caroline, James is back."

Caroline was stunned for a moment, then said joyfully, "Wylie is back? Where is he?"

Zaiden coughed and said, "Caroline, it's not Young Master Wylie who is back; it's James!"

"What?" Caroline laughed, "Zaiden, are you crazy? James is dead. How could he come back?"

Caroline's expression was full of disdain.

James had been missing for five years, and everyone knew he was dead. It was just that to maintain the Smith family's image and for external deterrence, it had never been announced.

At this moment, Caroline heard a long-lost voice, "Caroline, you seem very unhappy about my return?"
