Chapter 416 Found a Good Son-in-Law

Valor didn't even bother to call Dennis by his name, clearly ignoring him.

Dennis, on the other hand, was all humble and quick to say, "This is my daughter, Jennifer."

Valor gave Jennifer a once-over, nodded, and said, "She looks pretty good."

Dennis beamed with pride at Valor's words. Having a beautiful daughter like Jennifer was his biggest brag. "Actually, Jennifer's been the school beauty since she was a kid, always had a ton of admirers."

Molly, standing nearby, couldn't resist a jab, "You can tell she had plastic surgery. That kind of beauty doesn't last; the side effects will catch up, and soon she won't move the muscles on her cheeks."

Dennis shot back, "Molly, stop talking nonsense. Jennifer's looked like this since she was a kid, never had any surgery."

Molly sneered, "Yeah, right."

Jennifer couldn't hold back and snapped, "Certainly you know a lot about plastic surgery. Takes one to get one I suppose."

Molly turned red with anger, glaring at Jennifer.

Everyone else was shocked by Jennifer's words. Molly's liposuction wasn't exactly a secret in the Johnson Family, and they all secretly judged her for it. But how did Jennifer, who hadn't been around for over a decade, know about it?

Seeing Molly's furious face, Jennifer felt a lot better.

Just as Molly was about to retort, Valor cut in impatiently, "Enough."

Molly, scolded by Valor, immediately shut up and lowered her head, clearly afraid of him.

Valor then turned back to Dennis and said, "Your daughter looks good. I can introduce her to a good family so she can live comfortably."

Dennis quickly said, "Dad, I appreciate it, but Jennifer is already married. This is her husband, James."

He gestured to James and said, "James, say hello to your grandfather."

Everyone's attention shifted to James.

James, who had come in with them, had been keeping a low profile. Even though everyone saw him, they didn't really notice him. It was like he had this ability to blend into the background.

This was actually because James was deliberately keeping a low profile. If he wanted, he could intimidate everyone here with just a look. But today wasn't about him; he was here for Jennifer's family.

James casually said, "Hey, Grandpa."

His laid-back attitude instantly rubbed Valor the wrong way. Valor was all about control and expected the younger generation to show him respect.

Even though James did call him grandpa, Valor couldn't hide his displeasure. He looked at James, dressed in cheap clothes and without a fancy watch, and sneered, "What do you do for a living?"

His tone was dripping with arrogance like he was the king of the world and a cut above all.

This kind of scene had played out countless times over the past five years, and James was pretty much numb to it by now.

Jennifer quickly tugged at his sleeve, signaling him not to tell the truth.

James just smiled and said, "I don't have a job."

"No job?" Valor frowned.

Molly's eyes lit up, and she jumped in, "You mean you're unemployed, right?"

The Johnson Family members exchanged puzzled looks. James didn't seem like someone who couldn't find a job. And even if he was jobless, admitting it here seemed pretty dumb.

But what James said next left them all stunned.

"That's right," James said simply.

Valor was taken aback.

Molly was speechless.

The rest of the Johnson Family had the same shocked expression.

Jennifer glared at James, embarrassed and angry. James was usually pretty sharp, so why was he acting so dumb today?

Dennis and Kaitlyn looked equally helpless.

After a moment of shock, Molly burst into laughter, her whole body shaking with excitement, her face turning red. "Are you serious? Unemployed? That's hilarious! I can't believe there are still people who can't find a job these days. Dennis, you've really outdone yourself with this son-in-law, congrats!"

Molly's tone was dripping with sarcasm and disdain.

Dennis was fuming. He had hoped that this time, the Johnson Family would at least be a bit more welcoming, if not enthusiastic. Clearly, he was wrong.

Kaitlyn quickly jumped in, "James is an amazing son-in-law. His medical skills are top-notch, and he's saved countless lives. He got some serious connections back in Lindwood City. Even the richest man, Michael, is also a good friend of James. He's incredible!"

Dennis caught on and added, "James might not have a regular job, but he knows a lot of important people. They recently opened a medical clinic, and it was a huge event with many prominent guests. Molly, if you ever come to Serenity State and need help, James can easily sort things out for you."

Dennis spoke loudly, his face full of pride. He might not have achieved much himself, but he had a great daughter and an even better son-in-law. James had pulled off some amazing feats recently, and to Dennis, James was practically a superhero. So he boasted about James without any hesitation.

The room fell silent, and everyone looked at Dennis with ridicule and disbelief.

"Dennis, you're a grown man. How can you be so naive and foolish? Look at your son-in-law. His clothes are worth maybe five hundred bucks. He looks like a poor man! He himself said he couldn't find a job, and you still have the nerve to brag that he knows important people. Do you think we're all idiots? By saying this, you're clearly disrespecting Valor!" A middle-aged man stood up and scolded him harshly.

At this, Valor's expression turned even more unpleasant.
