Chapter 538 Jennifer's Decision

With Jennifer's words, Lisa remained silent, offering no response. In truth, her visit to Jennifer was not intended to wield her status as James's fiancée as a threat. Rather, she aimed to leverage her own strengths to defeat Jennifer, compelling her to retreat in the face of overwhelming opposition.

Now that Heather had brought it up, it was unexpected for Lisa.

Lisa was an extremely proud person and had never stooped to using underhanded tactics to win against an opponent. But now that Heather had blurted it out in a moment of urgency, she had no choice.

Facing Jennifer's inquiry, Lisa nodded, "Yeah."

Jennifer bit her lip, caught in an inner struggle. Her complexion shifted continuously, rendering her thoughts opaque to Lisa and Heather.

After a while, Jennifer asked, "Ms. Savoy, the identity of the Smith family heir is very important to James, isn't it?"

Lisa nodded, "Very important."

"Alright, I get it." Jennifer nodded. Her face was pale, and she stood up, ready to leave.

Lisa said, "Ms. Johnson, what do you mean?"

Jennifer replied, "I know what to do."

Lisa, being a perceptive woman, discerned Jennifer's decision through her gaze, and couldn't suppress the surprise that welled up within her.

With some contemplation, Lisa said, "Ms. Johnson, as I said before, I don't mind you and James seeing each other in secret. You just need to divorce him."

Jennifer interrupted her, "Ms. Savoy, James is one of the few good men in this world. I hope you cherish him."

Lisa frowned, intending to say something but didn't.

When Jennifer reached the door, Lisa voiced, "Ms. Johnson, hold on."

Jennifer stopped and turned around, her eyes questioning what else Lisa had to say.

Lisa continued, "Ms. Johnson, I won't let you leave James empty-handed. This estate is now worth over a billion dollars. I'm giving it to you."

As she finished speaking, a servant brought over a contract. Lisa took it and walked up to Jennifer, saying, "Ms. Johnson, this is the transfer contract for the estate. As long as you sign it, the estate will be yours. It will be enough for you and your family to live comfortably for the rest of your lives."

Jennifer looked at the contract, her expression unchanged. Lisa was right; the estate could indeed sell for a billion dollars at current market value.

A billion dollars was an astronomical figure for an ordinary family.

Lisa was giving it to her so easily.

Jennifer smiled, "Ms. Savoy, is this how you rich people think? That money can buy everything and compensate for everything?"

Lisa's expression shifted slightly, without any response.

Heather chimed in, "Ms. Johnson, is that amount not sufficient? You should refrain from being too greedy.."

Jennifer frowned, and Lisa slapped Heather across the face, coldly scolding, "Get out!"

Heather was stunned, covering her face. She had served Lisa for so many years and had never been hit by her before!

In an instant, she felt confused, wronged, regretful, and fearful.

Faced with Lisa's anger, she realized that this time she had truly caused trouble. Not daring to say another word, she quickly slunk away in embarrassment.

Lisa apologized, "Ms. Johnson, I'm sorry you had to see that. My maid has been spoiled by me and has a bad temper. Please don't take it to heart."

Jennifer nodded. She didn't really care about these things. She had never been a gold-digger. If she were, she wouldn't have married James in the first place, nor would she have stayed married to him for so long.

She could never earn a billion dollars in her lifetime, but she didn't care for it, either.

"Ms. Savoy, I appreciate your kindness. Perhaps you think money is very important, and a billion dollars is a lot. To me, money is just a number, as long as it's enough. So, you should take the contract back. You don't need to worry about me going back on my word. James's happiness is more important than anything." Jennifer smiled brightly, but Lisa could still see the pain and reluctance hidden behind her smile, which moved her deeply.

Lisa had been born with a silver spoon, a stark contrast to Jennifer's background, experiences, and mindset. She couldn't fathom Jennifer's emotions at that moment, yet it didn't diminish her admiration for her. From the depths of her heart, Lisa had indelibly etched Jennifer's name.

"Ms. Johnson, let me give you a ride back," Lisa sugguested.

Jennifer did not refuse.

In the same Rolls-Royce Phantom, they didn't talk on the way back. Jennifer's eyes were red, and she was suppressing her emotions, but in the well-insulated car, her sobs could still be heard, and tears kept streaming down her face.

Lisa frowned slightly. She was never easily affected by others, but now, seeing Jennifer like this, she felt Jennifer's emotions. It was a feeling she had never experienced before, making her confused and even doubtful if she had done the right thing.

Finally, twenty minutes later, the car arrived at Jennifer's apartment complex. Jennifer wiped her tears and, seeing the tears on the sofa, said, "Ms. Savoy, I'm sorry for dirtying your Rolls-Royce."

She used her clothes to wipe it, but the more she wiped, the more tears flowed from her eyes.

With this, Lisa felt even more guilty. She grabbed Jennifer's hand and comforted, "Ms. Johnson, you don't need to wipe it. This car means nothing to me; I could throw it away, and it wouldn't matter."

Jennifer's movements ceased, and with a bitter smile, she said, "Is that so? I forgot that you are a noble from the City of Mysteries. Ms. Savoy, I apologize for any amusement at my expense. My home is here; I must return now. Farewell."

With that, she got out of the car and left.

Lisa rolled down the window, watching Jennifer leave. Seeing Jennifer desolate figure, Lisa felt for the first time that she had done something wrong, and it made her feel terrible.

At this moment, Lisa finally understood why James was willing to give up everything for Jennifer.

It was a pure and unblemished love. They loved each other so much that they were willing to give up everything for each other.

Before this, she didn't believe in love.

Now, looking at Jennifer, she finally saw it.

For the first time, she felt a sense of envy.

"Miss Savoy, should we go back?" After staying for more than ten minutes, the driver in the front asked softly.

Lisa withdrew her gaze and responnded, "Well, let's go."

However, at this moment, a surprised voice came from outside the window, "Lisa? What are you doing here?"
