Chapter 187 Physical Inadequacy?
James's expression froze. His eyes widened in shock. He couldn't believe that Jennifer had actually told Harmony about their private life.
Harmony quickly realized her mistake and felt a pang of regret. 'How could I have let this slip out? If Jennifer had found out, she would never have shared such intimate secrets with me again.' thought Harmony.
James felt extremely awkward about Harmony exposing his lie.
The atmosphere between them grew tense and uncomfortable.
James broke the silence first. He said awkwardly, "She was lying to you. Do you really think we could be married for five years without having been intimate? Is that even possible?"
However, Harmony whispered. "Nonsense."
James felt helpless. He wanted to insist further but felt too embarrassed because that was truth.
"You're always the clever one, aren't you?" James rolled his eyes, trying to end this subject.
But Harmony didn't give up. She became even more intrigued and pressed on, "You've been married for so long. Could it be that there's something wrong with your body?"
As she spoke, her eyes began to drift downward, glancing at a certain part of James's body.
James's face hardened. "For heaven's sake. Why are you always thinking about these things?"
Harmony wasn't angry. She slyly replied, "So I was right, wasn't I? You really are physically inadequate. Poor you, having such a beautiful wife like Jennifer and not being able to touch her. "
Her gloating laughter infuriated James, but she felt relieved at the same time.
She thought she had found the reason why James was not attracted to her.
James was provoked. As a young, virile man, being mocked by a woman for his body was intolerable.
He glared at Harmony and said, "Who says I'm inadequate? If I want to make women feel good in bed, no woman could resist it."
He wasn't lying. His physical restraints had been lifted by ninety percent, making his physical prowess far superior to the average person.
However, Harmony didn't believe him at all. She seemed to have heard the funniest joke ever, "That's hilarious. No woman could resist it? James, I must have misjudged you before. I didn't realize you were so vain. In my opinion, you'd be done in three minutes."
Seeing Harmony's mocking expression, James grew even more furious. He blurted out, "Three minutes? What a joke! Try it and see if it's just three minutes."
"Fine! Let's try it then!" Harmony, not thinking it through, stretched her neck and provocatively looked at James.
James, having had a bit to drink at the buffet earlier, was feeling slightly tipsy and said, "Then come on!"
At that moment, a voice interrupted, "Try what?"
The voice startled both James and Harmony. They turned to see Michael, his face flushed from drinking, walking over.
They finally realized that this was something they couldn't actually try.
"Nothing!"
"Nothing!"
They spoke simultaneously, their expressions and tones so synchronized that it was obvious something was up between them.
Michael immediately furrowed his brow. "Are you two arguing?"
He said this because he noticed they both looked quite upset.
Harmony quickly regained her composure and replied coolly, "No, we're not arguing. We were just discussing some things and had a minor disagreement."
James nodded in agreement, "That's right."
Michael found their behavior odd but couldn't pinpoint exactly what was strange. He scanned their faces for a moment before saying, "The main event is about to start, James. Are you sure you don't want to change some clothes more appropriate?"
James shook his head. "No, it's fine. I just came along with you to look around. It doesn't matter what I wear."
"Alright then," Michael said, seeing that James was firm in his decision. He didn't press the matter further.
In truth, Michael had invited James tonight to introduce him to high society, hoping it would benefit James's future. James had already done so much for The Brown Family—saving Andres's life, curing Harmony, and helping with a major engineering problem. Michael was a grateful person and genuinely considered James a friend, he wanted to help him.
However, it seemed James wasn't interested in these things. Even at such a high-class event, he remained indifferent. Understood that James preferred to keep a low profile, Michael didn't push him further.
Anyway, the main event of the banquet was the selection of a son-in-law. Although James was outstanding, his background was too ordinary. Most importantly, he had married, so there was no chance for him.
Therefore, he couldn’t be bothered with what James wore anymore.
Harmony was also used to James's sloppy appearance. If he had ever learned to dress himself up and looked presentable, that would have truly been surprising.
James said, "Michael, I don't know anyone here besides you guys. It's boring. If there's nothing else, I'll head back."
Michael replied, "We just got here. Why are you leaving already?"
James smiled wryly. "These high-class events aren't really my thing."
Michael understood and agreed. James's attire did make him stand out here. Since James didn't want to stay, Michael didn't insist, though he felt a bit regretful. "Alright then, I'll have someone take you back."
"No need, I'll just grab a cab."
At that moment, Harmony spoke up, "I also find this event quite boring. How about I take him back?"
"No," Michael refused without hesitation. He frowned. "How long has it been since you socialized? If you keep this up, you won't be able to understand the rules of socializing between up-class. How can I trust you with the company? You must stay tonight."
Harmony said impatiently , "What's the point of socializing with these hypocrites?"
"That doesn't matter. Dad specifically told me tonight that you must stay and socialize. Networking is an essential part of our business," Michael said sternly.
"Fine," Harmony relented, knowing Michael had her best interests at heart. But she said, "I'll stay, but only if James stays too."
James was taken aback and asked, "Why?"
