Chapter 35 I'll Bet Against You
Rodney was extremely agitated, and the others began shouting as well.
The female dealer slammed the table and coldly said, "Watch your mouth! Where did you see me cheating!? If you can't handle losing, then don't gamble. With your level, do you dare to call yourself a Gambling God? I could beat you with my eyes closed."
Rodney felt ashamed and frustrated by the female dealer's words, his eyes turning red.
Others began to complain, "Damn it, what kind of nonsense is this Gambling God? Can't even beat a woman!"
Another blamed, "I'm furious! This is all my savings! If I lose, it's all gone! I shouldn't have believed in this damn Gambling God."
Someone sulked, "Unlucky, I should have left after winning earlier. Regrets!"
One wept, "How am I going to explain this to my wife? Sob..."
Some even started crying.
Carlos slapped himself and said, "I'm such an idiot! Even after winning, I didn't want to leave. Now it's all gone!"
James shook his head, showing little sympathy. Those who believed in this so-called Gambling God and were greedy deserved their losses.
"Carlos, consider it a lesson learned," James said while he patted his shoulder, trying to console him.
Carlos sighed, feeling deeply resentful.
At that moment, Rodney raised his head abruptly, unwilling to accept defeat. "I haven't lost! I want to bet against you again!" he challenged.
His eyes bloodshot, breathing rapid, he stared fiercely at the female dealer.
The female dealer casually smoked, then said, "Sure, as long as you have three million, you can bet against me."
Rodney, now desperate, gritted his teeth, "I can't come up with three million right now. I'll borrow from the casino and sign an IOU."
The female dealer didn't immediately respond but went backstage to consult the boss. After a few minutes, she returned with several contracts in hand. "You can borrow three million, but it's not just for you. It's for all of you. Fifty thousand each, here are the IOUs."
Others hesitated. Fifty thousand was not a small amount. If Rodney lost, they would all be in trouble. Looking at the high interest rates on the IOUs, they were even more shocked.
Someone protested, "The interest is too high! If we lose, we'll never be able to repay it!"
Another complained, "Borrow fifty thousand, with an interest of eighty thousand per month. Are you kidding me?"
Rodney's face darkened. He remarked, "The interest is too high."
The female dealer smiled, "High? If you win, what would the interests mean to you? In the end, you just lack confidence in yourself."
This obvious provocation successfully provoked Rodney. His breathing quickened, and he hastily signed the IOU, then said to Carlos and the others, "I was careless earlier. Let's play another round. I guarantee I'll win this time!"
Under the Rodney's persuasion, some believed him and signed the IOUs.
Seeing Carlos considering it, James said, in a serious tone, "Carlos, you shouldn't sign. This Rodney is no match for her; he'll lose."
"Hey, I've tolerated you long enough! You, a mere driver, keep blabbering here. Say one more word, and I'll throw you out!" Rodney glared at James, visibly irritated.
Seeing Carlos hesitating, Rodney continued, "Carlos, don't believe him. Don't you know my skills? I can guarantee this time I won't lose! I'll win back all the money you lost tonight; give each of you a million! And you wanted to learn my skills, right? If you believe me this time, I'm willing to give you a chance."
"Gambling God, really?" Carlos's eyes lit up immediately.
Proudly, Rodney said, "Of course, when have I ever lied to you?"
Others heard this and eagerly expressed their desire to learn as well.
Carlos, after a moment of hesitation, signed the IOU...
James wanted to stop them but it was too late. He could only sigh helplessly.
Clapping her hands, the female dealer said, "Courageous. Let's gamble again. Good luck."
Rodney, regaining his confidence, sat down confidently, his gaze sharp, chewing on chocolate. He proclaimed, "Of course, this time, I'll show you that the title of Gambling God isn't just for show."
The female dealer smiled faintly and said, "Let's wait and see."
As the game continued, Carlos and the others were tense. They watched the table intently, silently rooting for Rodney and praying for a win.
In the first round, Rodney had a good hand, starting with a pair of Queens. However, the opponent folded early, so Rodney didn't win much, just around a hundred thousand.
In the second round, another boss won in the end, as Rodney gave up early, losing only a small amount.
After five consecutive rounds, Rodney had won tens of thousands. His smile grew, and the others relaxed a bit, regaining confidence in Rodney.
However, in the sixth round, the female dealer won unexpectedly, making Rodney lose sixty thousand, wiping out the winnings from the previous five rounds. His face darkened significantly.
"You're tough, let's go again!" Rodney yelled as he tore up the cards, glaring fiercely at the female dealer.
The female dealer, with a slight smile, nodded to the handsome male dealer beside her, who then brought out a new deck of cards to continue the game.
As the game progressed, Rodney became more cautious. He won three consecutive hands, recouping the sixty thousand he had lost earlier, his smile returning.
But by the tenth round, his luck took a turn for the worse. The female dealer unexpectedly won, catching him off guard.
In just one round, he lost one hundred and fifty thousand! Half of the three hundred thousand borrowed at high interest was gone in an instant. His forehead beaded with sweat. He couldn't smile anymore, growing nervous.
Carlos and the others held their breath, fists clenched, body tense, extremely anxious.
In the eleventh round, Rodney finally got a good hand—a hole card of a Hearts Ace, with a pair of Jacks and an Ace of Spades on the table, a winning hand.
The female dealer's first three cards formed a straight, but the fourth card didn't complete it, instead revealing an 8, making her hand a pair of 8s. It seemed like her hand was stronger than Rodney's, and she confidently declared, "I have a pair of 8s, beating your pair of 5s. Poker."
Rodney smiled and said, "If the last card is a 9, completing your straight, I might be a bit worried. But with just your pair of 8s, you dare to challenge me? Want to steal from me again? No way!"
With that, he confidently pushed all his chips forward. He declared, "I'm all in."
The female dealer sneered, revealing her hole card first—a surprising three 8s!
"What?!" Rodney was shocked, his face paling. But he quickly composed himself, took a deep breath, spun the ring on his left hand quickly, and then burst into laughter, swiftly flipping over the whole card with his right hand.
The Hearts Ace had transformed into a Jack of Hearts. He said, "Sorry, I have three Jacks! Beats your two pairs. You lose."
However, the female dealer showed no surprise. Instead, she gazed coldly at him. "You have some nerve, cheating here? Security, apprehend these people!" she ordered.
Panic flashed across Rodney's face as he shouted, "What are you doing? Let me go! I didn't cheat!"
But the female dealer reached into his sleeve and pulled out a card, revealing his original hole card, the Hearts Ace. "Any more excuses?" she asked.
Seeing the card, Rodney was rendered speechless.
"Have the guts to cheat in Little Las Vegas; you're really asking for it!" The hot dealer snapped coldly, "Guys, lop off this Gambling God's hands. Let's see how he'll cheat then! As for the rest, break a leg. Literally."
In an instant, Rodney went weak in the knees, desperately pleading for mercy, and his demeanor completely changed from his earlier arrogance.
Carlos and the others were pinned down by strong men, unable to move.
"Wait!" Carlos struggled, pointing at James and shouting, "It's not his fault! He's just our driver; he didn't gamble at all, and he didn't even sign an IOU. Just deal with me, don't touch him, he's innocent!"
When James heard this, a warm surge of emotion filled his heart. He hadn't expected Carlos to stand up for him at this critical moment, and he was touched.
The female dealer waved her hand, having observed James wasn't involved. She said to him, "Little Las Vegas is a fair place. Since you're a driver and have no part in this, you can leave."
While Carlos was held down by two men, a metal rod was raised high, ready to strike. Pale and trembling, Carlos looked at James and said, "James, go, forget about me."
James sighed. If it weren't for Carlos, he wouldn't have bothered saving these gamblers.
He stepped forward and declared, "Stop!"
All eyes turned to him. The female dealer asked coldly, "What do you want?"
Approaching her, James locked eyes with the female dealer. He challenged, "I'll bet against you."
"You?" The female dealer chuckled, scanning James from head to toe with disdain. "With your appearance, can you produce three million?" she questioned.
Others also looked at James with disdain, thinking he was overestimating his abilities.
Carlos shouted loudly, "James, are you crazy? Leave now!"
"I don't have three million, but can't you lend it here?" James said while he smiled, showing no signs of nervousness.
Frowning, the female dealer asked, "Three million is no small amount. Little Las Vegas isn't a charity. What can you offer as collateral?"
James extended his hands. "I offer my hands as collateral. If I lose, I'll sever both arms."
His words caused a stir among the onlookers. The female dealer stared at him intently. "Are you that confident?" she asked doubtingly.
"Will you lend it or not?" James asked.
After a moment of hesitation, the female dealer said, "I need to consult the boss."
Two minutes later, she returned, looking at James with a strange expression. She said, "The boss said three million can be lent to you, but if you lose, you'll owe six million."
