Chapter 436 Five-Star Hotel, James's Property
"Mr. Smith, let's go. We won't have dinner with them!" Brandy said angrily, and then she did something even she didn't expect—she grabbed James's hand and left.
James was startled by her action. How could Brandy, such a simple and shy girl, be bold enough to hold his hand on the street?
Quade was taken aback, and then his mouth twitched.
Juniper frowned as well. She certainly couldn't let Brandy leave; she was still planning to use Brandy to make money.
"Brandy, what are you doing? Haven't we agreed to have dinner together?" Juniper said unhappily, as she was indeed upset. We are from the same hometown and have grew up together. Now I have invited you to New York City and personally picked you up, as booked a private room in a big hotel to entertain you, and don't you show any respect for me? What do you mean by that?"
Originally, Juniper felt a little guilty towards Brandy, but now, that guilt had completely disappeared without a trace.
Brandy said angrily, "How dare you say that? Since we left the train station, you've been sarcastically mocking Mr. Smith. Have Mr. Smith ever offended you? What you're doing is really rude, and I don't want to have dinner with you!"
James was once again taken aback. He hadn’t anticipated that Brandy, who appeared so gentle and unassuming, possessed such a formidable side, which promptly incensed both Juniper and Quade.
Brandy was really angry. She could tolerate Juniper being arrogant in front of her; it didn't matter to her because she knew Juniper had always been vain and mean since childhood. But mocking James was something she couldn't stand!
In her heart, she genuinely admired and respected James. This regard was not solely due to his medical expertise but primarily stemmed from his character and the significant contributions he had made to the country's medical field.
She had watched the entire live broadcast of the medical exchange conference held that time. Since then, she had become a fervent fan of James, admiring him greatly.
When James came to give a lecture at the medical school, she was there. Seeing James, she was very excited and even thought about asking for his autograph. But she was so introverted, and later when Jennifer arrived, she didn't get the chance to meet James, so she had to give up the idea.
This time, she came to New York City alone and unexpectedly met James and even sat next to him. She was very excited and thought it was a great destiny.
Brandy feelings for James were purely admiration, nothing more.
After talking with James along the way, she found that James was different from others, a very easy-going and approachable person. When she was with James, she didn't feel much guarded, as if James was like an older brother who wouldn't harm her.
Now seeing Juniper and Quade constantly mocking James made her very uncomfortable, and she directly lashed out.
Juniper didn't expect Brandy to react so strongly. In her impression, Brandy was a very gentle and good-tempered person who would silently endure even if she suffered a loss and would never lose her temper like this.
Juniper felt a touch of regret but was more overwhelmed with annoyance. This Brandy, for the sake of an impoverished man, had lost her temper with her good friend, showing her no respect whatsoever!
For achieving her intention, Juniper had to endure it. She took a deep breath, offered an apologetic smile, clasped Brandy's hand, and humbly said, "Brandy, I'm truly sorry; it was indeed our fault. We shouldn't have taken things so far. But please understand our concern--we were simply worried that you might be deceived, as there are so many fraudsters nowadays."
Brandy flushed with anger. She glared at Juniper and said, "Juniper, what nonsense are you talking about! Mr. Smith and I are just common teacher-student relations. We just happened to meet on the train, it's not what you think!"
Then Brandy quickly explained to James, "Mr. Smith, please don't misunderstand, Juniper likes to joke around. I really respect you!"
James certainly wouldn't misunderstand. He smiled and said, "I know, there's nothing to misunderstand."
Under Juniper's signal, Quade also apologized to James, though his apology was insincere and very perfunctory.
"Brandy, can we go have dinner now?" Juniper asked sincerely.
Brandy nodded, looking at James with a mix of guilt and admiration. In her mind, James's impression became even more towering!
After that, Juniper and Quade didn't dare to mock James anymore. They spoke more cautiously, but their arrogance still showed, revealing a sense of superiority.
James didn't pay much attention to them. His gaze was mainly outside the window, looking at the passing scenery, which brought back his old memories. He had been to these places before. Five and a half years had passed, and not much had changed, but his mindset was completely different.
After half an hour, they arrived at a five-star hotel. Juniper said, "Brandy, you haven't had a meal at a five-star hotel before, right? The food here is delicious. You're lucky today. Quade's cousin is the owner of this five-star hotel."
James frowned slightly upon hearing this. This five-star hotel was a property of the Smith Family. He had bought the land and built it himself. How did it become Quade's cousin's property?
But he didn't say anything, his expression becoming more meaningful.
He had finally returned to New York City. Could it be that he was about to encounter something interesting?
Brandy was flattered and responded, "A five-star hotel, that's so expensive! We could just eat at a small restaurant on the street. I'm not particular about food."
With the luxurious five-star hotel, Brandy felt very constrained, clutching her clothes and sitting uneasily, with a strong sense of inferiority.
Although she had excellent grades and was a top student, her family was not well-off, just an ordinary family. In particular, over the past two years, her family had faced significant business failures, resulting in substantial financial losses, rendering life especially challenging. Her primary means of funding her medical school education were scholarships; without them, she wouldn't have been able to afford her studies.
Thus, she had kept the same phone for three years. Despite its sluggish performance, she couldn't bring herself to replace it.
Now, being invited to dine at a five-star hotel, with a meal costing thousands of dollars, she instantly felt a wave of panic. It was the awe of a humble soul towards luxuries.
