Chapter 391 The Renowned Dr. Smith

"Who's this?" Eryx asked, looking a bit puzzled. He had no clue who Arianwen was. She seemed like a high schooler, but there was something about her—way too mature and distant. Her stare especially made Eryx and the others feel weirdly scared; their nerves were on edge.

They couldn't quite figure out why. Being around Arianwen felt like being in front of someone way older.

Honestly, if Arianwen let loose her killer vibe, she'd freak Eryx and the others out completely.

The whole aura thing was real. Even people with a bit of money had this weird confidence that made them stand out.

Arianwen's vibe was on another level. She made regular folks feel way more pressure than James did because James had never actually killed anyone; he didn't have that chilling killer instinct.

Edwin chimed in, "She's Dr. Smith's sister."

"So, she's James's sister." Eryx and the others relaxed a bit. They were really worried Arianwen was from some big-shot family. Just from her vibe, they knew she wasn't ordinary. Little did they know, Arianwen was actually a cold-blooded killer! If they knew, they'd be shaking in their boots.

They remembered what Arianwen had just said. "Dr. Wheeler, we've been friends for years, so I'll be blunt. Dr. Smith is really young; we can't just make him an honorary professor. You get it, right? Our medical school has never had such a young professor. It's hard to convince everyone."

A few other school leaders nodded in agreement. Out of respect for Edwin, they were being pretty polite about it.

Edwin didn't get mad. It made sense. Who would believe a guy in his twenties could be a professor?

"Eryx, I get where you're coming from. But you should also know I wouldn't recommend Dr. Smith without a good reason. We've known each other a long time, and you know I wouldn't do something unless I was sure about it," Edwin said with a smile.

Eryx went quiet and looked at James again. Even though James looked young, there was a maturity about him that didn't fit his age.

Edwin continued, "Eryx, if you don't trust Dr. Smith, why not test him? Let him teach a class and then decide."

Eryx and the others exchanged looks, thinking it over.

James felt pretty frustrated. He was a medical genius, yet here he was being doubted and needing to prove himself. It was annoying.

"Dr. Wheeler, we can give Dr. Smith a shot out of respect. If he passes our test, we can think about making him an honorary professor. How's that?" Eryx said.

Edwin nodded, thinking it was fair. He looked at James and asked, "Mr. Smith, what do you think?"

James let out a sigh and said, "Dr. Wheeler, let's just skip the test. I never wanted to be an honorary professor. I've never taught a class and I don't think I'm cut out for it."

To Eryx and the others, this sounded like James was unsure of himself. They frowned even more and decided to throw the toughest questions at him, making sure he'd fail and have no room to argue.

Edwin, looking a bit worried, said, "Mr. Smith, with your expertise, how could you not be up to the task? If you can't do it, no one can. Much like at the recent medical exchange conference, your deep medical knowledge and sharp logic would definitely enhance our students' education!"

Eryx was taken aback by Edwin's words, his heart skipping a beat as he looked at James, who started to seem familiar. "Dr. Wheeler, are you saying that Dr. Smith is the same James who was amazing at the recent medical exchange conference?"

The other school leaders' eyes widened in surprise.

They knew about the recent medical exchange conference but didn't pay much attention to it, because they thought they would lose. They didn't watch the live broadcast and were busy with school stuff, so they missed the news. They didn't remember what James looked like.

It was only after the conference that they heard about the results from various sources. This genius doctor had solved many tough cases on his own, impressing everyone.

But they hadn't seen a clear photo of James. They only knew about the event from written reports and were genuinely shocked and impressed by his arguments and conclusions.

They never expected that the unassuming young man in front of them was the genius doctor from the conference.

Edwin, seeing their reactions,  was stunned. "Eryx, you don't recognize Dr. Smith?"

Eryx, a bit embarrassed, said, "I've heard of Dr. Smith's name but never seen him in person, so I didn't recognize him. Dr. Wheeler, are you saying that Dr. Smith is that genius doctor?"

"Absolutely, why do you think I'm so eager to recommend him?" Edwin said, exasperated.

Eryx and the others felt even more embarrassed but also more excited.

Eryx carefully examined James, his attitude changing significantly. He quickly stepped forward to shake James's hand. "Dr. Smith, I'm sorry for not recognizing you earlier. I hope you won't take offense!"

Edwin, smiling, said, "Eryx, what do you think about Dr. Smith becoming an honorary professor now?"

"No problem at all!" Eryx quickly said. "As for salary, I'll offer Dr. Smith the highest in the industry."

James found himself even more exasperated by the now almost sycophantic attitude of Eryx and the others.

Originally, he didn't want to take on the honorary professor role. But their enthusiasm, along with Edwin's presence, made it hard for him to refuse. So he reluctantly agreed to try teaching a class first.
