Chapter 228 The Entire Audience is Captivated by James!
Jennifer was stunned when she saw the scene. She couldn't process it right away.
'Why is Harmony at the conference?' she thought.
She had invited Harmony to the movies yesterday, but Harmony had declined, saying she needed to rest.
"How did she end up in M City, attending the same East-West medical exchange conference as James?" She felt something was off.
What made her even more uneasy was the way Harmony was looking at James. As a woman, she had a bad feeling.
Just then, Kaitlyn chimed in, "Yeah, why is Harmony at the conference? And did you see that look? Could there be something between her and James?"
Kaitlyn's expression was troubled.
James' recent stellar performance had made her see him as a good son-in-law. Now, seeing Harmony and James together in M City, she couldn't help but worry.
Jennifer quickly shook her head. "Mom, you're overthinking! There's no way anything's going on between Harmony and James. You know how honest James is. Plus, Harmony has high standards; she wouldn't be interested in James."
Kaitlyn, still worried, said, "Nothing in this world is absolute, Jennifer. You need to be careful. Besides, James isn't the James we used to know anymore."
Jennifer frowned. She thought Kaitlyn was overthinking.
In fact, she trusted Harmony more than James. To her, Harmony was a reliable friend, and she couldn't believe such a close friend would steal her husband.
So, she thought Kaitlyn was overreacting.
"That's impossible!" Jennifer said firmly. "Mom, you're really overthinking this! I can guarantee there's absolutely nothing fishy between James and Harmony! If you keep saying this, I'll get mad."
Kaitlyn wanted to say more but was stopped by Dennis, who gave her a stern look, so she stayed quiet.
Jennifer turned her attention back to the TV. The screen had switched to James, who was speaking confidently on stage. At that moment, James, dressed plainly and looking average, exuded a strong sense of confidence and charm. Even she was a bit attracted to him; maybe Harmony really could be drawn to him.
She quickly dismissed the thought, feeling guilty for doubting Harmony, and focused on the live broadcast.
On Harmony's side, she didn't know the camera had captured her smile and amazed countless viewers. She was still intently watching James, feeling particularly proud and infatuated.
James saw that Nathaniel had calmed down and was now wary of him, making it difficult to provoke him. So he gave up on that idea and continued, "Cancer is one of the most difficult diseases to cure in human history. I wouldn't be arrogant enough to say that taking herbal medicine can cure it."
Nathaniel seized on James' flaw and immediately said, "So you also believe that traditional medicine is helpless against cancer?"
James frowned and said, "Dr. Worthington, I haven't finished speaking. Please be courteous and stop interrupting me. We're here to discuss our views on cancer; let's keep this conversation civil and respectful, like professionals exchanging ideas."
James' tone carried some displeasure, and his demeanor was that of a superior reprimanding a subordinate, completely overpowering Nathaniel, a professor from Serenity Province.
Nathaniel was fuming.
Since becoming a professor, he'd never been dressed down like this, especially by someone younger! And in front of so many people, no less. He wanted to snap back, but he knew it would only make him look worse.
Despite his temper, he wasn't stupid. He had to keep his cool and act like nothing happened.
The traditional medicine doctors beside James were all taken aback. They hadn't expected James to stand his ground against Nathaniel, making him look so uncomfortable.
Their opinion of James improved a bit.
In the audience, Edwin watched with a satisfied smile.
The modern medicine camp was furious, glaring at James and feeling the pressure, especially Guadalupe, who was gritting his teeth.
"Dr. Smith, you've been talking for a while but haven't gotten to the point. Please get to the point," Nathaniel said, trying to change his tone.
But his switch was awkward, and without realizing it, the rhythm was completely in James' hands.
James smiled slightly, ignoring Nathaniel's clumsy sarcasm, and said calmly, "As I mentioned earlier, many cancer patients die not from the cancer itself but from subsequent surgeries, including chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Surgery can only remove visible cancerous lesions but cannot eliminate the cause of the tumor, treating the symptoms but not the root cause.
"Since the cause remains, the cancer can recur, and the patient's condition will be worse upon recurrence due to the toll of surgery, with greatly weakened immunity. Moreover, the long process of surgical treatment is a huge psychological blow to the patient, whether it's the fear of death or the economic burden of expensive treatments, not wanting to burden their family. This psychological stress is a significant harm to the patient. It is undeniable that the vast majority of cancer patients die from psychological fear."
James sighed and continued. The modern medicine camp was increasingly shocked and alarmed as they listened. They had initially thought James was the easiest target in the traditional medicine camp, but he turned out to be the most formidable!
James' extensive medical knowledge, clear thinking, rigorous logic, and excellent eloquence were all beyond their expectations!
The most frightening part was that they realized this young man named James was not only well-versed in traditional medicine but also an expert in modern medicine.
"These are my opinions on how traditional medicine can treat cancer," James said, his smile fading into a serious expression. "Overall, I believe that treating cancer should not be done through simply removing the tumor. This not only fails to cure the disease but also increases the patient's burden."
"Treatment should address the root cause, combining the patient's cancer-inducing factors for targeted treatment, enhancing the patient's immunity and physical condition to fight the cancer. This is also the philosophy of traditional medicine."
After saying this, he sat down.
For a moment, the large conference hall was silent, with everyone staring at him in a daze.
Then, enthusiastic applause erupted!
