Chapter 188 Could It be 'Her'?!
Michael was also puzzled. What did this have to do with James?
However, Harmony said boldly and justifiably, "If you leave, who will be my dance partner?"
"Dance partner? What do you mean?" James frowned.
Harmony explained, "There will be a dancing session later, and everyone has a partner. If I don't have, it would be embarrassing. So, you must stay and be my dance partner."
They were all speechless about Harmony's unreasonable excuse.
Besides, did James look like someone who could be a dance partner in that outfit?
"That's impossible." James refused without a second thought. He didn't want to be Harmony's dance partner initially. Besides, in the clothes he was wearing, he knew he would be a laughingstock if he went up to dance.
Michael also frowned and pretended to be displeased. He said, "Stop fooling around! There are plenty of people who want to be your dance partner; you don't need to trouble James."
"Exactly, and I don't know how to dance," James quickly shook his head.
However, Harmony was determined to have James as her dance partner. She said, "This is my only condition. If he doesn't stay to be my dance partner, I'll leave with him."
Michael felt a headache coming on. He knew Harmony's character better than anyone. Once she gave her condition, it meant there was no room for negotiation.
And tonight's banquet was indeed important, with many bigwigs attending. If Harmony was to take over the company, tonight's socializing was essential.
With Harmony's capabilities, it would be a waste if she didn't get involved in managing the company.
There was no other choice but to rely on James for the time being.
With this, Michael forced a flattering smile and said to James, "James, please stay and be the dance partner with Harmony."
"Michael," James was stunned, his eyes wide open, looking as if he couldn't believe Michael had betrayed him.
Michael also felt a bit embarrassed, but for the sake of the family business, he awkwardly said, "James, since you're already here, leaving so early would be pointless. Besides, the main guest of tonight's banquet is about to arrive. You might as well stay and take a look. It will be a great experience."
Seeing the richest man in the city humble himself before him, James couldn't bear it either. He sighed and said, "It's not that I don't want to, but I don't know how to dance."
Harmony, seeing that James was softening, immediately said, "No problem, I can teach you."
James glared at Harmony and said, "That's a minor issue. The main problem is that I'm dressed like this. If I go up to dance, it will be embarrassing for you."
"It doesn't matter," Harmony quickly replied. "It will just show those men that I'd rather choose an ugly guy than give them a chance, making them back off."
James's mouth twitched, and he had nothing more to say.
Under Michael's repeated requests, James had no choice but to agree.
Since they didn't mind, he had nothing more to worry about.
"By the way, you mentioned that the main guest of tonight's banquet hasn't arrived yet. Who is it?" James asked curiously.
Michael said, "I haven't met the person, but the information I have is that it's a tycoon from Washington. And I heard that he is looking to find a husband for his daughter in Lindwood City, which is why so many people are here tonight."
For some reason, upon hearing Michael's words, James felt a sudden pang of unease.
'A tycoon from Washington, looking for a husband? Could it be the one he knew?' thought James.
James couldn't help but think of the message he had received a few days ago.
Then he shook his head, denying the thought. First of all, 'her' father had already passed away, so there was no possibility of him choosing a husband for her. Secondly, she was surely still waiting for him to return and wouldn't easily look for another man.
Of course, if it really were her, James would be relieved.
James thought of that clingy woman and felt a headache coming on.
Seeing James frowning and silent, looking very reluctant, Harmony got displeased at once. She was a super beauty with countless admirers, many of whom would jump at the chance to be her dance partner. Now that the opportunity was presented to James, he was still unwilling.
Thought about this, Harmony's face turned cold.
As Michael was busy socializing elsewhere, Harmony said to James in dissatisfaction, "Hey, what's with that expression? Is being my dance partner such a burden for you?"
James sighed and said, "Why do you insist on having me as your dance partner? "
"No particular reason, but if you reject me, I will insist even more," Harmony said.
James fell silent.
"Harmony, weren't you always very aloof? How come you've become so argumentative now?" James said with a bit of frustration. Harmony used to be even more cold than Jennifer. James had known her for a long time, and the total number of words they had exchanged didn't exceed ten sentences.
'Aren't I supposed to be aloof? How had I become so talkative now?' thought Harmony.
Seeing James's look of disdain, she became even more annoyed, thinking to herself that it must be because James was so annoying that she had become so talkative.
"What does it have to do with you?" Harmony snorted.
As the banquet progressed, more and more guests arrived, and the scene became increasingly lively.
The hall was very spacious, capable of accommodating several hundred people without feeling crowded.
Michael came over for a while but soon went back to socializing.
Many people approached Harmony to strike up a conversation. Tonight, she was the most beautiful woman here. Whether in appearance, temperament, figure, or attire, she was the most eye-catching, outshining many other women.
Just sitting there, she became the focal point, attracting the attention of many men.
Among them, Jared's gaze was the most intense. The more beautiful Harmony was, the more he regretted his decision. If he hadn't chosen to break off the engagement back then, Harmony would already be his wife.
James looked so ordinary, and even though he was sitting very close to Harmony, no one saw him as a rival.
Meanwhile, a convoy was slowly making its way to the hotel. The lead car was a limited-edition Rolls-Royce with missile-proof capabilities, followed by a dozen Bentleys, making for an extremely grand sight. As they drove along, they attracted a lot of attention.
