Chapter 303 Don't Keep Hitting Me

There were five of 'em, all beefy dudes swinging iron rods, even one hit could knock someone out cold. No matter how badass James was, he couldn't take 'em all on!

They'd already seen James's fate and were sure he'd get his ass handed to him. That was what he got for sticking his nose where it didn't belong.

Maximilian had this smug look on his face as he spat out, "Bastard! Go to hell!"

Too bad they had no clue who they were messin' with. The more they fought back, the worse it was gonna get for 'em.

James was never one to go easy. Over the past five years, he'd had to keep his true self in check to get his missions done. After that fire incident, he had some epiphanies and got way more ruthless.

Facing the five goons charging at him, James just snorted. He yanked the kneeling Maximilian off the ground and used him as a human shield. One of the thug's heavy blows landed right on Maximilian's shoulder, making him scream like a banshee.

"Maximilian, I'm sorry!" The thug freaked out and started apologizing like crazy.

"Are you blind? Are you hitting me or him?" Maximilian was in serious pain and shaking all over.

People watching couldn't help but laugh at the scene.

James didn't let up. By now, the other four thugs had surrounded him and started their attack.

James kept using Maximilian as a shield, countering every move. In no time, he had all five thugs writhing on the ground, groaning in pain, unable to get up.

Maximilian got it the worst. James had used him as a shield the whole time, so all the hits from the thugs landed on him. He was a mess, covered in wounds and crying like a baby.

The whole thing took maybe ten seconds, so fast it left everyone in shock. James had already taken care of the big problem everyone was worried about.

The middle-aged couple, especially, were left speechless and totally floored.

They thought they were done for, but outta nowhere, this mysterious guy showed up and took down all the thugs.

"Stop hitting! I was wrong, really wrong." Maximilian had never regretted anything more. If he'd known this would happen, he wouldn't have dared to mess with James.

James ignored him and dragged him over to the middle-aged couple, saying, "Apologize to them."

"I'm sorry!" Maximilian had completely given up. He knelt in front of the couple, crying and begging, "I was wrong, I shouldn't have tried to extort money from you. Please forgive me, I beg you."

The middle-aged couple was totally shocked. This whole thing was too much for them, and they were flustered, not knowing what to do.

One of the thugs on the ground saw this and decided to make a run for it.

James didn't bother with him. He was just helping out 'cause he knew the couple.

Seeing the couple's confused faces, James had to ask, "Leopold, Eirian, do you forgive him?"

"Okay," they nodded quickly, not wanting any more drama.

They were so flustered, they didn't even catch how James called them by name.

Maximilian thought he was off the hook and tried to bolt, but James yanked him back by the hair. "You broke their phone, you gonna pay for it or what?"

Hearing James, Maximilian almost cried. Not only did he get his ass kicked, but now he had to cough up cash? What a crappy day!

But with James breathing down his neck, he didn't dare argue and nodded fast. "I forgot. Eirian, what kind of phone was it? How much? I'll pay."

Trying to be sneaky, he shot Eirian a nasty look. Eirian got scared and waved her hands. "Don't worry about it, it's just an old phone, not worth much."

"Seriously, Eirian, don't hold back. If you need compensation, just let me know," Maximilian said, eyes still fierce.

But James wasn't buying it. Without a word, he kicked Maximilian's knee, making him drop to the ground with a heavy thud. The sound was bone-chilling.

Maximilian screamed, thinking his knee was busted!

James's cold voice cut through the air, "Trying to pull that crap in front of me? You must have a death wish."

Maximilian was terrified, begging for mercy. "I was wrong, I was really wrong, I won't do it again."

"Ten thousand dollars," James said flatly.

"Ten thousand? Eirian's phone is worth a few hundred, tops. I'll pay! Let's talk this out, no need to keep hitting me, okay?" Maximilian saw James about to move again and freaked out, begging.

He felt so wronged. He was the boss around here, even rich businessmen didn't mess with him. He usually bullied regular folks, but who knew he'd run into James, a bigger demon than him.

Maximilian didn't dare think twice and quickly gathered ten thousand dollars from his goons, limping back and handing it to James with a forced smile, scared James might hit him again. He was totally spooked by James.

James took the cash and handed it to Eirian, smiling, "Eirian, take this as your compensation. If this happens again, call the cops, don't argue with these punks."

Leopold and Eirian stared at the money, wide-eyed, not daring to take it. "We can't take this, you should keep it."

James had no choice but to shove the money into Eirian's hands, saying, "Eirian, don't be polite, take it."

At that moment, Leopold finally caught on to how James addressed them and asked curiously, "Do you know us?"

James thought for a second, took off his sunglasses, and smiled, "Leopold, Eirian, it's me, James."
