Chapter 319 A Grand Gift: A USB Drive

Kieran was stoked, like, really stoked.

He bailed on middle school and jumped into the real world way too early. With barely any education, he couldn’t land a decent gig. Back in the day, he did all sorts of grunt work: hauling bricks at construction sites, scrubbing dishes in kitchens, delivering food, doing renovations, and so on.

But no matter how hard he busted his ass, he could never make enough dough, and often have trouble making his ends meet.

He got fed up with a bustling life like that. He tried to break into better-paying jobs, but with his lack of education, he couldn’t even get through the easiest interviews.

He started kicking himself for not hitting the books when he was younger, which left him in such a crappy spot. But Kieran wasn’t the type to throw in the towel. He had this stubborn streak; the tougher something was, the more he wanted to make it.

Then one day, while he was waiting tables at a restaurant, some jerks came in and started causing a ruckus. The boss, totally stressed out, said something that flipped Kieran’s world upside down.

"Kieran, if you can stop them, I’ll double your pay starting tomorrow!"

Hearing that, Kieran got super pumped, his heart racing. The idea of doubling his pay was just too sweet! Without thinking twice, he grabbed a chair and went after them, completely ignoring the fact that trooping out were seven burly men.

He was tall, jacked, and strong as hell.

In that brawl, he came out on top, taking down all seven of them solo!

Even though he got banged up, he didn’t feel any pain at the time; instead, he felt this insane rush.

At that moment, it was like he unleashed some hidden beast inside him, and from then on, his life took a wild turn.

He got famous from that one fight, and soon people were lining up to recruit him. He found his calling; he was a natural-born fighter.

Later, the guy he was working for double-crossed him, and in a fit of rage, Kieran took him out and became the boss himself.

His life went better off; he wasn’t the broke waiter anymore. He had a bunch of houses and even started a company.

But he still had the same old problem: lack of education.

Even though he had cash and people, he couldn’t run the company right; it was always bleeding money.

He wanted to ditch his old life and aim higher. But it was tough. In this world, there were too many people better than him, and as the law got tighter, he had less and less room to maneuver. He was desperate to break through, really desperate.

Finally, he saw a shot: teaming up with the Perry family. If he could get their help, he’d definitely get out of his rut, and those who once looked down on him would have to respect him!

Not long ago, he met James, a guy who scared the crap out of him. He bowed down to James without a second thought, and it turned out to be the right move. James wasn’t heartless and gave him a golden opportunity to personally present a grand gift to Uriah.

He was totally sure James was tight with Uriah. With James vouching for him, he was bound to get the Perry family's backing.

He clutched two gifts, one from himself and another from James.

Finally, it was his turn. He tried to keep his cool and respectfully said to Uriah, "Mr. Perry, I'm Kieran. Congradulations on your enagement with Ms. Flores. Here’s my gift for you."

He handed over his gift to Uriah with all the respect he could muster.

"You’re Kieran? The guy who owns Fortress Defense Group?" Uriah took the gift and smiled.

Hearing that, Kieran couldn’t help but get hyped, "Mr. Perry knows me?"

Uriah grinned and said, "Of course I know you. The owner of Fortress Defense Group is a big deal."

"In front of you, Mr. Perry, I’m just a regular folk." Kieran scratched his head, saying humbly.

Uriah smiled and opened the gift, finding a pair of solid gold sculptures, pretty hefty, worth over three million bucks. Kieran had really splurged to impress Uriah.

Uriah was a bit taken aback and said, "Kieran, this gift is way too generous."

"It’s nothing! I’ve admired you for ages, Mr. Perry." At that moment, Kieran suddenly remembered something and quickly pulled out James’s gift, handing it to Uriah with even more respect, saying, "Mr. Perry, here’s an even more special gift from an old buddy of yours. He said you’d love it!"

"An old buddy?" Uriah raised an eyebrow, intrigued.

"Yeah, your old buddy!" Kieran nodded eagerly, his face lit up with excitement. "Mr. Perry, why don’t you open it and see what it is."

Hearing Kieran, Uriah got curious. Not just him, but Charlotte, who was holding his arm, also looked intrigued.

Soon, Uriah opened the box and found a USB drive. "What’s this?"

Kieran was puzzled, too. 'A USB drive? Did James mess up?' He quickly glanced back at where James should be but didn’t see him. Feeling a bit anxious, but with trust in James, he still said, "Mr. Perry, yeah, this is from your old buddy. Maybe it’s got something you’d really want to see."

At that moment, Kieran realized why James had been so secretive about the gift. It was a USB drive, and it must have something super important for Uriah. He had to admit, this gift was way more valuable than any gold. This was something special!

No wonder James said that once Uriah got this gift, he’d never forget him.

With that, Kieran’s smile got even bigger.

Uriah frowned a bit, hesitant to play it. If it turned out to be something weird, it’d be awkward.

But just as he was about to pass, Charlotte beside him said curiously, "Uriah, since it’s from an old friend, it’s gotta be something good. Why not check it out now?"

Hearing Charlotte, Uriah had no choice but to nod in agreement. He handed the USB drive to his assistant, who plugged it into the computer and played it through the projector.
