Chapter 472 James's Tears

Jeffery stood up to pour James a drink, his hands trembling slightly, spilling some on the table.

Unable to control his hands, a look of desolation appeared on his face. He said to James with shame, "James, it's been so long since I've seen you, I'm just excited."

James did not expose Jeffery’s lie; he simply nodded and said, “These past five years, I’ve experienced a different way of life.”

Jeffery was a perceptive individual; he had already sensed the changes in James. Though James remained the same person, his character had undeniably transformed.

Jeffery knew that James's brotherly affection for him remained uncharged, and that was enough.

After a moment of silence, Jeffery said, "James, a month after you disappeared, someone came looking for trouble with us."

James had anticipated this and wasn't surprised. He waited for Jeffery to continue.

"My leg was broken by Lester Percy," Jeffery said, his eyes reddening and fists clenched. "He didn't just break my leg; he also took over my family's holdings and had my parents imprisoned. Now, I am nothing more than a stray dog."

"Lester, Lester," James muttered the name twice, and the image of Lester appeared in his mind. Back when he was still in City of Mysteries, Lester always respectfully addressed him. After James left, Lester bullied Jeffery. In James's eyes, Lester was already a dead man.

"How about Donna Edwards and Gregory Patterson? How are they now?" James asked softly.

Jeffery, Donna, and Gregory were James's childhood friends, as close as siblings.

Aside from the three of them, there was also Emberlyn, who had grown up with them. However, Emberlyn mainly played with James and didn't much enjoy the company of the other three.

Moreover, Emberlyn was different from the three of them. She was the eldest daughter of the Jackson family. Although her status wasn't as noble as James's, no one dared to bully her.

Jeffery, Donna, and Gregory weren't really part of City of Mysteries's elite circles because their families were ordinary, not from any prominent families.

If it weren't for James bringing them along, they wouldn't have been able to squeeze into City of Mysteries's elite circles.

James hadn't expected that after he left, these people would dare to target the three of them.

Hearing James's words, Jeffery's body trembled violently. His eyes instantly filled with tears, and his hands shook uncontrollably.

"Donna..." Jeffery sobbed.

James suddenly stood up, staring at Jeffery and said in a deep voice, "What happened to Donna? Jeffery, tell me!"

James lifted Jeffery's chin, revealing a face already awash with tears. Sobbing, Jeffery exclaimed, "Donna jumped to her death to avoid being defiled by Lester and his gang of scoundrels!"

"What?" In that moment, James' expression turned exceedingly grim. The ordinarily mild-mannered man suddenly emanated an unparalleled aura. A terrifying sound emerged from his body as his joints moved unnervingly.

The two solid marble tiles under his feet couldn't withstand his hidden strength and cracked with two loud snaps.

The manager, hearing the commotion outside, opened the door and entered. At first glance at James, he trembled violently.

To the manager, the current James was terrifying. In all his years, he had never seen someone so frightening.

James was now at the fourth stage of martial arts. His anger was nothing short of a psychological nuclear explosion. Fortunately, the manager only saw James's profile and didn't look directly into his eyes. Otherwise, it would have been normal for him to faint from fear.

Jeffery kept his head down, not daring to look James in the eye. He was already overwhelmed with immense pain and sorrow, tears streaming down his face.

Donna's death had been an enormous blow to Jeffery.

To this day, Jeffery hadn't come out of the shadow. He hated himself for being useless, unable to avenge Donna, and watching Lester's gang still at large. Thus, not a day or a moment passed when he didn't fervently hope for James' return to avenge Donna.

Now, James returned.

"Lester! Lester!" James took a deep breath, so forceful that it created a gust of wind. The large private room echoed with the sound of the wind.

"Besides Lester, who else? Tell me everything," James inquired, his demeanor returning to its usual gentleness. One moment he was a tempest, the next, as calm as a spring breeze.

The manager at the door finally caught his breath, panting heavily. He found himself drenched in sweat, his legs trembling, exhausted.

At this moment, Jeffery's awe for James reached a peak.

Originally, he didn't have much reverence for James, thinking his significance was mainly due to his status. Now, it seemed that James himself was a person of great power, beyond his family.

Realizing this, Jeffery didn't dare to stay any longer. He quickly closed the door and left. He needed to change into a new set of clothes.

Jeffery told James about the remaining people with sobs. Then he knelt in front of James, slapping himself and repenting, "James, I'm sorry. It's my fault."

James closed his eyes, tears streaming from the corners.

Jame's mind was filled with Donna's gentle and kind face, her sweet voice calling him James, and her positive and optimistic outlook on life.

He clenched his fists, then released them.

Lifting Jeffery up, James said, "Jeffery, this isn't your fault. I failed to protect you all. It's my mistake. What about Gregory? What happened to him?"

Jeffery said, "Gregory... after Donna's incident, he went alone to seek revenge on Lester and his gang... and he died, too."

James opened his mouth, gasping for breath, his anger erupting like a volcano.

James clenched his fists, his muscles tensing and swelling as if inflated, stretching his clothes and popping the buttons. He punched the wall beside him, breaking through the thick wall, startling the people in the adjacent private room, who looked at him in fear.

Indeed, the dozen guests in the private room were having a lively meal when the wall next door was suddenly punched through.

They were all elites of society, but in the face of such a situation, they didn't dare make a sound.

How powerful must one be to shatter a wall of such thickness with a single punch?
