Chapter 183 A Celebrity Banquet

Indeed, any rational person would think that a tycoon from Washington trying to find a mate for his daughter in Lindwood was quite unrealistic. It was akin to a princess from the royal family actively seeking a husband in the countryside.

Therefore, Michael expressed his doubts about this.

Andres also found it unlikely, but the information he received from his old friend was just that. He said, "Although the possibility is slim, it's better to believe it than not. We should still prepare. If she really is here to choose a husband, we should seize the opportunity."

"That's true." Michael nodded and said, "The higher the status, the more unpredictable their thoughts. It's a pity Elbert just got married not long ago; otherwise, he could give it a try."

Elbert was Michael's younger brother, who had just married last year. In Michael's generation, there was no suitable candidate.

In the next generation, the blood ties were not as close, and most importantly, there were hardly any outstanding individuals among his nephews and nieces.

Andres also thought of this and sighed. "It's a pity James isn't part of the Brown Family; otherwise, with him, our chances would be much higher with him."

Michael said skeptically, "Dad, you are overestimating James. His medical skills are good, but James comes from a humble background. Most importantly, he's already married."

Andres shook his head and said, "James is not as simple as you think."

Michael couldn't help but recall the various extraordinary things James had shown. He began to agree with his father and thought that perhaps they could try to invite James to the banquet.

James was unaware of this. The next day, he canceled his old phone number and got a new one. Over the next few days, he remained vigilant, constantly on guard against being followed.

He knew if that woman really found him, it would be a big problem.

Several days passed without any incident, and James began to lose his vigilance.

He knew that woman well. Given her personality, if she had known his whereabouts, she would have come to find him immediately. The fact that several days had passed without any sign of her was reassuring to him.

James felt relieved.

Since that night, Jennifer had been acting awkward around James, avoiding eye contact and quickly looking away when their eyes meet.

For her, the event of that night was too embarrassing for her. If she had succeeded in breaking through that barrier, it would have been fine, but she failed, making it very awkward.

James noticed this and felt quite awkward himself.

But he pretended as if nothing had happened.

Business at the clinic got better and better. Jennifer even hired two more graduates from her school to help, and she could barely  keep up.

James couldn't help but marvel at Jennifer's learning ability. She had mastered everything he taught her and sometimes even came up with new ideas.

As a result, James found himself with much less work to do and became somewhat idle.

One day, James received a call from Michael. "Why didn't you tell me you changed your number? By the way, are you free tomorrow night?"

Upon receiving the call, James immediately became wary, recalling the last time Michael had deceived him. He said, "You're not trying to trick me again, are you?"

Michael laughed awkwardly and said, "No,  last time was a misunderstanding. This time, I really have something important to discuss with you."

James asked curiously, "Oh? What is it?"

"Here is the thing," Michael said. "There's a socialite's banquet tomorrow night. Many influential magnates will be attending. Why don't you come along?"

James refused without thinking. "I'd better not. I'm not some big shot, and I don't want to make things awkward for you."

"Don’t be worried. This is a great opportunity, and it might be a turning point in your life," Michael said meaningfully. "You're a capable person and should have a broader horizon. Alright, it's settled then. I'll send someone to pick you up tomorrow night."

"Wait..."

However, Michael didn't give him a chance to continue and had already hung up the phone.

Listening to the busy tone, James could only smile wryly. To be honest, he had no interest in these so-called socialite banquets. He would rather spend his time alone.

The next day, Michael arrived on time to pick him up.

"I'm downstairs at your place. Come on out."

James had just returned from the clinic and indeed saw Michael's car parked downstairs.

"Oh God, you really came," James said helplessly as he walked over.

Michael said, "What, did you think I was lying? Get in the car; the banquet is about to start."

"Can I refuse?" James said with a wry smile.

"No, you can't make me come here for nothing," Michael said, feigning displeasure. He then got out himself and pulled James into the car.

James had no choice but to agree.

Michael's driver was new and hadn't seen James before, finding the situation quite unbelievable.

Because they were in a hurry, James didn't have time to change clothes. He went in casual attire, which was quite cheap and even had some loose threads. He wore ordinary sneakers, making him look very plain. The contrast between him and Michael, who was wearing a suit and a gold watch, was stark.

Due to the tight schedule, Michael didn't notice James's poor attire and took James straight to the banquet.

The banquet was held at a five-star hotel by the sea in a beautiful setting. On the way, they saw countless luxury cars.

James also saw many distinguished magnates, some of whom had auras no less impressive than Michael's.

Many of these magnates were from other places.

At the hotel entrance, dozens of greeters stood on either side, and an invitation was required to enter, making the scene very grand.

James didn't have an invitation, but since he was with Michael, he was allowed to enter.

As they walked in, many people greeted Michael, and their eyes were inevitably drawn to James. It was hard not to notice him, as his attire was completely out of place in such a setting.
