Chapter 68 Food Poisoning

Harmony looked at the information, feeling a bit puzzled, and replied to her messages.

Harmony: [I haven't slept yet, just finished washing up. What happened between you and James?]

Jennifer looked at James sleeping on the floor, and she recounted the whole incident to Harmony.

To her, Harmony was the best confidante, and she couldn't imagine that someone as beautiful as Harmony could be associated with James, considering how different they were.

Harmony's world was much broader than hers, being an incredibly outstanding elite, while James was just an ordinary man.

After hearing it all, Harmony was also shocked. She knew James was injured, but she didn't know that the reason he got hurt was because of saved Jennifer. And Michael did not tell her the whole ordeal.

Especially upon hearing that James stabbed himself for Jennifer, she felt a strange pang in her heart.

Considering James's actions today, she suddenly envied Jennifer, having a husband willing to stand up for her.

After some thought, Harmony replied to Jennifer's message.

Harmony: [I think when James said he wanted a divorce, it was just out of anger. If he didn't love you, he wouldn't have stabbed himself for you. Think about that. If you were in his shoes, and you just made a huge sacrifice for James, only to suddenly see his divorce papers, you'd be mad as hell.]

Jennifer: [But is that his excuse for cheating?]

Harmony: [I am sure he didn't cheat.]

Jennifer sent a puzzled expression.

Harmony hurriedly explained further.

Harmony: [It's just my intuition. James doesn't seem like the type to cheat, and as you said, he's a coward who wouldn't dare to betray you.]

‘I'm so clever. Now, she cannot doubt me. ‘Harmony thought and felt pleased with herself.

Over the years, she had kept her true background hidden from Jennifer, who didn't know Harmony was Michael's sister. Instead, Harmony presented herself as a wealthy individual, without revealing the extent of her family's wealth.

In high school, her status caused her a lot of trouble. This led her to decide to conceal her background when she went to college.

Jennifer didn't dwell on it and replied.

Jennifer: [In the past, I would have thought the same, but now I feel like there's something changed with James.]

Harmony: [What do you mean?]

Jennifer: [I don't know, but I feel like he's different from before.]

They chatted for a while, and Harmony shared her conclusion.

Harmony: [Jennifer, I really think you should take your time to think this through carefully. There's no need to rush into a decision about divorce.]

Jennifer looked at James on the floor again, moonlight shining on his face, revealing a handsome side she had never seen before.

She responded with an "okay" and put her phone down to sleep.

‘Maybe I should listen to Harmony's advice and calm down first, then give it a second thought,’ she pondered.

The next day, Jennifer woke up late, washed up, and saw James watching TV in the living room. When James stood up to speak to her, she quickly put on a cold face, hmphed, showed impatience, and left without giving James a chance to speak.

James had planned to go to the divorce department with her to handle the divorce procedures, but with Jennifer leaving so quickly, he had to abandon the idea.

After watching TV for a while, James received a call from Carlos, asking, "Hey, James, where are you?"

"At home, what's up?" James asked.

Carlos pretended to be displeased, and remarked, "You, did you forget what day it is today?"

James was puzzled, couldn't figure out what day it was, and asked, "Is it your birthday today? But hasn't your birthday passed already?"

"Darn it! You really forgot. Today is the grand opening of my new store; we're about to have a ribbon-cutting ceremony; hurry up and come over," Carlos said excitedly, and James could hear the lively atmosphere on Carlos’ side.

It dawned on James that since that incident, where he helped Carlos win some money, Carlos had truly quit gambling and opened a hotpot restaurant, which was having its grand opening today.

Carlos had mentioned that but with so much happening recently, he had forgotten about it.

With nothing to do at home, James agreed to go and see how Carlos's store was doing and check if he could help out.

Carlos sounded urgent on the phone, so James quickly drove the Maserati President that Michael had given him to the store.

Getting out of the car, Carlos's eyes widened as he hurried over, and remarked, "Wow! This is the latest Maserati President. When did you buy it? That’s really something, so extravagant!"

Apart from Carlos, there were a few other people nearby, all around the same age. They were all impressed by the stunning Maserati President and showered James with praise.

James wasn't one to show off, so he jokingly said, "It’s not a big deal because the car is just rented. I just take it to make the store opening more gorgeous."

Upon hearing this, the guys who were initially fawning over him immediately changed their attitude, and showed their disdain.

Somebody said, "Huh, we thought you were a rich man, turns out you're just a imposter."

Another chimed in, "Yeah, a Maserati President worth over two million, how could an ordinary person afford it?"

Someone scoffed, "I was mistaken earlier, his whole outfit probably costs 20-30 bucks, yet he dares to rent a Maserati President, quite bold."

A young man with slicked-back hair walked over, teasingly saying, "Hey buddy, how much does it cost to rent this Maserati President for a day? Probably your entire month's salary, right?"

Facing their mockery, James remained unfazed, but Carlos was irritated. He scolded, "Get lost, you guys don't know anything. My buddy here has an interesting background. If he wanted to buy a Maserati President, it would be a piece of cake."

However, the others didn't take Carlos's words seriously and continued to laugh.

"Alright, Carlos, let's hurry up and do the ribbon-cutting," James suggested.

"Right, right." Carlos slapped his forehead, "I almost forgot, the ribbon-cutting! James, you stand in the middle this time. Without your help, I wouldn't have been able to open this store."

James smiled, didn't make a fuss, stood in the middle, and when the host counted down three, two, one, they began the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Carlos's hotpot restaurant was quite large, located in a prime area, and cost at least twenty thousand dollars.

After the ribbon-cutting, the official opening began with a fifty percent discount promotion on the first day, attracting quite a crowd. Within an hour, dozens of tables on both floors were filled with customers. Carlos was excited. A huge grin on his face, quite thrilled.

James also picked a table to sit at and took a bite. Indeed, the taste was good, better than the average hotpot restaurant.

However, not long after, a sudden scream came from downstairs, "Someone has food poisoning!"

James quickly put down his chopsticks and went downstairs to see what was happening.
It turned out that an elderly man, while eating hotpot, suddenly foamed at the mouth, fainted, and now his face was dark, looking extremely terrifying.

Seeing this, Carlos was shocked, "How could this happen? My ingredients are fresh, clean, and hygienic! Did he have some illness before eating?"

The man's family immediately shouted, "Don't try to escape from the responsibility! My dad has always been healthy; he had a check-up just last month, and he had no illnesses. Clearly, it's the unclean food here that caused my dad's food poisoning! If anything happens to my dad, you should go to jail!"
