Chapter 392 James Is Going to Teach
With James's background, the school leaders quickly dropped their disdain and bombarded him with medical questions. They wanted to test him and genuinely needed his insights.
James knew what they were up to and didn't hold back. He answered everything calmly and spot-on, hitting the nail on the head every time. They were blown away, totally impressed by his knowledge.
These school leaders and medical experts, all with PhDs, soon realized James was on another level, way beyond what they expected.
They started to believe that real geniuses do exist.
"Edwin, I don't think I'm cut out to be a professor," James admitted during a quick break.
Edwin patted his shoulder and said with a smile, "Why not? If someone like you isn't suitable, then who is? Our medical field is struggling, and fewer students are interested in studying medicine. Even at our medical university, eighty percent of the students avoid our traditional medical techniques. We can't just sit back and do nothing!"
Edwin's genuine concern made it tough for James to refuse. He sighed and agreed for now, planning to reconsider once his family called him back, at which point he'd resign.
James had a special love for traditional medical techniques because the Smith Family had deep roots in medicine. Many family members were skilled in these techniques. But over the past few decades, with rapid economic growth, his grandfather Alistair had shifted the family's focus to business and politics to stay strong.
James felt pretty helpless about the decline of traditional medical techniques. He wanted to revive them, but as he got older, he realized it wasn't that simple. Especially given his identity, once he returned to the Smith Family, he'd likely have no time for this endeavor.
However, he couldtrain a group of excellent successors to pass on the medical techniques.
But that was a issue for another day.
Since today's classes were already set, the earliest they could schedule James to teach would be tomorrow to see how it goes.
"Lucien, see if you can set up a class for Dr. Smith tomorrow and let him give it a shot," Eryx started assigning tasks after James and the others had left.
Lucien said, "Coincidentally, Tavish is on leave tomorrow. We can have Dr. Smith cover his class."
A nearby leader exclaimed, "But Tavish's class tomorrow is a large lecture with hundreds of students. It's Dr. Smith's first time teaching; can he handle it?"
The other leaders were worried too. They knew James was a medical whiz, but teaching is different from treating patients. Plus, James had never taught a class before. Starting with such a big audience might make him nervous, potentially causing issues that could mess up his future teaching.
Eryx waved it off and said, "No worries. With Dr. Smith's skills, he can definitely handle it. Didn't you see how calm he was in front of us? No stage fright at all. He'll be fine."
"Yeah," Lucien chimed in. "There were even more people at that medical conference, and Dr. Smith was totally chill. A classroom with a few hundred students should be a breeze."
"True. Looks like Dr. Smith will be just fine."
"Exactly, and it'll help us see if he's really cut out to be an honorary professor here." The leaders all nodded in agreement.
Meanwhile, James, after seeing Edwin off to his car, leisurely strolled down the street with Arianwen.
It was clear Arianwen still wasn't used to walking around in broad daylight, with people staring at her.
She asked James, "Are you really planning to be a professor?"
James replied, "Not really."
"Then why did you agree to it?" Arianwen asked, puzzled.
"I'll give it a shot tomorrow," James quickly changed the subject. "Anyway, do you find walking around during the day more interesting than your usual nighttime activities?"
Arianwen said with a straight face, "I still prefer the night. It's too noisy during the day."
James smiled faintly and suddenly thought of something. He asked, "By the way, can you tell me about the organization you're with? Where's its headquarters?"
Arianwen looked a bit surprised and asked, "Why the sudden interest in my organization?"
"Your organization is pretty mysterious. I've known you for a while and never heard anything about it. I'm just curious," James said with a smile.
Arianwen lowered her head, her eyes showing a hint of complex emotions. After a few seconds, she looked up and shook her head, saying, "Knowing about my organization won't do you any good."
Alright then, seeing that Arianwen didn't want to talk about it and she seemed to have her reasons, James didn't push further.
Back at the dorm, he took out the book Eryx had given him and quickly browsed through the content for tomorrow's class. He found the material pretty basic and not challenging at all.
He wasn't one to teach strictly by the book. After glancing at it, he tossed it aside. If university professors only taught students to memorize these facts, the gap between domestic medical techniques and those of other countries would only widen.
The most important thing in learning domestic medical techniques was to cultivate one's own thinking.
Suddenly, he felt a bit excited about tomorrow's lecture. What kind of scene would it be? What interesting things might happen?
He realized that ever since his discharge from the hospital, his days had been rather monotonous. He had lost much of his fervor for life.
Now, he had a chance to experience something different, and it was worth a try.
However, he didn't know that as he was looking forward to tomorrow's lecture, Edwin had already sold him out.
The next day, James got up early as usual. After a simple workout, he prepared to head to the medical university.
But when he entered the hall, he saw Arianwen standing there. She was no longer wearing the dress from yesterday but she had changed into a simple outfit of jeans and a T-shirt, with sneakers. She looked like a vibrant college student.
