Chapter 403 Going Home
After figuring things out, James felt way more chill and not as torn up as before. He was never the type to be wishy-washy. Now that he'd made up his mind, he was all in, no second-guessing.
Honestly, he wasn't so short-sighted to think that picking Jennifer meant cutting off his family for good. Even if he didn't end up as the heir, he could still go back and make a difference.
When the time was right, he'd have a chat with Alistair. If he could get Alistair to accept Jennifer and still be the heir, that'd be perfect. Nothing's set in stone, right?
With that thought, James felt even more at ease, and a real smile spread across his face.
Arianwen watched them from behind, feeling all sorts of emotions she couldn't quite pin down. She was happy for James but also felt this weird sense of loss, like she'd lost something important. She'd never felt this mixed up before.
"Alright, let's head back," James said, letting go of Jennifer and holding her hand tight with a smile.
Jennifer nodded gently, looking all sweet and agreeable.
Seeing them leave, Arianwen asked, "Master, where are you going?"
James stopped, turned around, and said, "Arianwen, let's part ways here. Go do what you want."
Arianwen stayed quiet. Her gaze seemed calm and indifferent, but inside, she was a mess. She had a lot to say, especially this feeling of not wanting to let go that made her super uncomfortable.
Jennifer stood quietly next to James, watching Arianwen with curiosity. With a woman's intuition, she could tell that this cold Arianwen had a thing for James. Something must've gone down between them, especially since Arianwen called James "Master," which meant their relationship was complicated.
But she didn't feel jealous because she trusted James completely.
Arianwen stayed silent for almost ten seconds, her eyes never leaving James's. James looked back at her quietly. From his eyes, she saw nothing; she had her answer.
Arianwen nodded and simply said, "Okay."
Then she turned around, bent her knees slightly, and did something that left Jennifer totally stunned. Arianwen jumped up, leaping onto a super tall tree, and vanished instantly.
Jennifer was so shocked by this, she almost forgot to breathe. In her twenty-something years, she'd never seen anything like this. It completely blew her mind.
In fact, the moment Arianwen turned around, a voice echoed in her mind, "What I like to do is stay by your side." But there was no point in saying it out loud. She was never good at expressing herself.
Just like when she was in the organization, she was falsely accused of stealing, but she never defended herself, silently proving herself through her actions.
In today's situation, it seemed she could never prove anything. Maybe James would never know her thoughts and would only see her as just a friend.
Arianwen's life went back to its usual routine. Maybe, it wasn't so bad after all.
James pulled his gaze away from the darkness where Arianwen had vanished, sighed inwardly, and smiled. "Let's grab some food."
Jennifer nodded gently and walked out of the small forest with James. After a bit, she couldn't help but ask, "That woman, Arianwen, is she your friend? Why does she call you Master?"
James saw this question coming. He thought for a moment and said, "She's a friend I met a while back. She's got a quirky personality. After losing to me, she started calling me Master. Are you jealous?" He added with a playful grin.
Jennifer pretended to be mad, puffed her cheeks, and said, "Yeah, I'm jealous. We just got back together, and you already have a maid."
Her playful and cute act made James laugh out loud.
Then, he gave her a quick rundown of how he met Arianwen. After hearing it, Jennifer didn't feel jealous anymore; instead, she felt sorry for Arianwen. "So, some people really do have it tough. Isn't she all alone, with no one to lean on?" Jennifer said.
"That's right," James nodded. "Everyone's got their own path. This is hers, and no one can change it."
Jennifer suggested, "We could keep her here and let her live a normal life."
James thought for a bit, then shook his head. "She wouldn't fit into a normal life."
"It's really hard for her," Jennifer sighed, feeling even more sympathy for Arianwen.
James and Jennifer had been apart for a long time. Now that they were back together, they were inseparable, wanting to be together forever.
Jennifer, who had looked a bit worn out, now seemed radiant, no longer sad and down. She was glowing with happiness, making her already stunning beauty even more striking. As they walked, Jennifer caught a lot of admiring glances.
Naturally, James, holding her hand, became the target of envy and jealousy.
Even though Jennifer had lost some weight, she had always been beautiful. Now, with her joyful mood, her charm was even more captivating, even to James.
After grabbing a bite to eat, they headed back. Of course, they went back to the Johnson Family home, where James had lived for five years.
As they reached the front door, James paused, a mix of emotions flashing in his eyes. Jennifer noticed right away, squeezed his hand, and gave him a sweet smile. "Don't worry, Mom and Dad will be happy to see you."
"Okay," James nodded lightly with a smile, and they continued walking.
Soon, they arrived at the door. Just as Jennifer took out the key to unlock it, the door suddenly opened. Kaitlyn, holding a bag of trash, walked out. Seeing Jennifer at the door, she said, "Jennifer, aren't you going to the clinic? Why are you back?"
Kaitlyn stopped mid-sentence because she saw James. The trash bag in her hand fell to the ground with a dull thud.
