Chapter 589 And I lost.
With Lisa's words, everyone was stunned! They all looked at Lisa in shock.
They even thought they were hallucinating. The shock it brought them was no less than the fact that Neil was defeated by James.
If Brenda had said this, they might have found it understandable. But this was Lisa, the famously cold beauty in the industry, always distant and aloof. And now she had said something so 'vulgar'. It was simply unbelievable.
Not to mention them, even James was shocked, staring at Lisa in stunned silence.
His hands on Lisa's cheek felt almost too hot to touch.
As for Neil, upon hearing Lisa's words, he spat out a mouthful of blood, his face full of sorrow.
He struggled to stand up, his eyes bloodshot, glaring at James with a fiery intensity.
"James, if you dare touch her, I will never forgive you!" he shouted hysterically.
This fit of hysteria was a stark contrast to his usual demeanor, creating a sense of dissonance in the eyes of Maurice and the others. There was a poignant melancholy akin to witnessing a hero in decline. Indeed, Neil had once been a proud and spirited figure in the City of Mysteries' industry. Yet now, this grand individual had been utterly defeated by James, left impotent and furious.
The name James once again etched deeply into their minds.
Furrowing his brow, James let out a shout of annoyance, then, with a powerful thrust of his foot, a floor tile beneath him seemed to come to life. It shot towards Neil with incredible speed, piercing the air with a shrill sound that indicated it had surpassed the speed of sound.
If Neil hadn't been injured and was still in peak condition, he could have easily dodged it. But he had just taken a hit from James and was seriously injured, unable to dodge. He could only watch as the tile flew towards him, hitting his chest heavily, causing him to spit out blood and be thrown back.
His injuries worsened.
Fortunately, his body was strong; otherwise, a third-stage martial artist would have been killed instantly by this blow!
With this, Maurice and the others' pupils contracted, and they gasped, staring at James with their scalps tingling.
Maurice and the others thought James was terrifying!
This made them even less inclined to oppose James.
James's strength had exceeded their capacity to bear.
James, with a cold face, stared icily at Lisa. He showed no pity, pinching Lisa's face and pressing her against the wall. "I won't kill you directly; I'll first scar your face."
His nails scratched Lisa's face, causing her pain. Soon, a thin blood mark appeared on her face.
Everyone except James was extremely tense and heartbroken.
Lisa's delicate face, marred by even a small scar, was a waste.
Heather couldn't stand it anymore and shouted, "Stop it! Your wife is in Starglade County..."
Heather quickly gave an address!
Not far from the City of Mysteries, just in the neighboring city, about an hour's drive away.
James sighed in relief, released Lisa, and without another word, turned to leave. In a instant, he disappeared from the courtyard.
"Ms. Savoy, are you okay?" Heather, with red eyes, hurriedly helped Lisa up, sobbing.
However, Lisa slapped Heather's face, scolding her for meddling.
Heather was stunned, her eyes dimming.
Then Lisa hugged her, softly and gratefully saying, "Heather, thank you."
With this, Heather couldn't hold back anymore, tears streaming down her face.
As for the others in the courtyard, they were still speechless, the silence heavy.
What was originally a delightful birthday celebration turned into a chaotic mess upon James's arrival.
Neil was the most miserable. He no longer had his earlier grandeur, sitting dejectedly on the ground, his clothes stained with blood, his spirit broken, his eyes filled with despair.
He had lost, utterly defeated, with no chance to fight back.
James's displayed strength shattered the confidence and pride Neil had built up over the years, leaving him with an unprecedented sense of defeat.
The others felt the same. They had been so high-spirited, standing at the peak of the City of Mysteries, looking down on everyone, dismissing James. But in no time, James had crushed their confidence!
After about half a minute, Cynthia broke the silence, "Lisa, who is this James's wife?"
She was most curious about this now.
Brenda was equally curious.
For the first time, Lisa's eyes showed defeat. She had lost to Jennifer; James didn't care about her at all.
The blood mark on her face still stung, reaching deep into her heart, making her feel unprecedentedly sad.
This was the first time she had lost so completely.
At this moment, she and Neil could be said to share the same fate.
She smiled wryly, "Her name is Jennifer, just an ordinary woman from Serenity State. James loves her deeply, for no other reason than that she is his wife. And I lost."
Then Lisa continued, "Told as I did, James is a unique man. He didn't come for Neil because he didn't care about the so-called title of the top expert in the City of Mysteries."
With this, the others lowered their heads, feeling uncomfortable and unwilling, but they had to admit that Lisa was right.
Especially Neil, his eyes filled with rage and sorrow.
James didn't kill him, but it was worse than death.
The most painful point was that the woman he loved so much wanted to mess around with James, but James didn't care at all.
"Cynthia, I'm sorry I ruined your birthday today." Lisa held Cynthia's hands, gently brushing her face.
Cynthia shook her head, "It's okay. This birthday is the most special one I've had in years."
Lisa smiled, then walked to Neil, extending her hand with a sweet smile, "Neil, thank you for everything you've done for me, but I really can't be with you."
