Chapter 186 Unconventional
"What does it have to do with you?" Harmony gave Jared no face, speaking coldly.
Jared's mouth twitched, and he clenched his fists, struggling to control his emotions and not let his anger explode. Even so, his expression remained grim, his eyes bloodshot, and he was already quite out of control.
"You!" Jared laughed in his rage. "Harmony, remember what you said today. And you, James, you need to be careful; we will meet again."
With that, Jared walked away directly.
Harmony had gone too much, so he didn't need to pretend anymore. It was time to tear off the mask and reveal his true colors.
A fire burned within him, and he sneered inwardly, 'Harmony, you wretch, how dare you disrespect me like this. When I win the favor of that tycoon's daughter, I'll make sure the entire Brown Family suffers. I'll make you understand the favor of regret and pain.'
'And James, you lowly creature, daring to oppose me? Just wait. After tonight, I'll show you what cruelty is.'
Jared hadn't been this angry in a long time. Tonight, he was determined to win the tycoon's daughter's favor.
At this moment, a handsome man who bore some resemblance to Jared walked up and mocked him. "You really are useless. You can't even handle an ordinary person. What a disgrace to the Perry Family!"
He was Brian. Holding a wine glass, he mocked Jared, clearly having witnessed the earlier events, his face showing undisguised schadenfreude.
Seeing him, Jared's mood worsened, and he snorted heavily. "Brian, don't mock me here. I'm just letting them be complacent for a while. Once I win the tycoon's daughter's favor tonight, all problems will be solved. And Brian, I warn you, you'd better be polite to me. Otherwise, when I become the tycoon's son-in-law, you'll regret your rudeness."
However, Brian paid no heed to Jared's threat. Instead, he laughed. "Oh really? I'm so scared."
Then his expression changed, and he stared at Jared, saying, "You don't stand a chance in front of me. I advise you to save your efforts. Otherwise, it would be embarrassing if you get humiliated. After all, we are brothers, and I do feel a bit sorry for you."
As he said this, his lips curled into a wicked smile.
Jared stared coldly at him, not at all surprised by Brian's attitude. After all, they had been competing since childhood. He snorted and couldn't be bothered to squabble with Brian any longer, continuing to socialize with others.
Brian didn't follow him. He sneered, withdrew his gaze, and then fixed it on James not far away. His eyes sparkled with interest as he sipped his wine.
'Few people have angered Jared like this. I'm starting to take an interest in you. I hope you won't bore me."' He smiled.
Meanwhile, after helping James out of the situation, Harmony led him aside. Looking at his outfit, she couldn't help but tease. "You really are unconventional. You're the most casually dressed person here."
James was dressed in a T-shirt and sweatpants, with dirty shoes on his feet.
Harmony had attended countless parties but had never seen anyone like James who dressed so casually for such an important occasion.
James had anticipated Harmony's comment. He shrugged and said, "I wasn't planning to attend tonight's party. It was Michael who insisted on taking me here. It was too rushed, and I didn't have time to change."
"I knew it," Harmony rolled her eyes and said irritably.
Then she looked at James, finding him more pleasing to the eye the longer she looked. To be honest, among all the men in suits and ties, James's simple and lazy demeanor had a unique charm.
Harmony didn't think James looked down and out. Instead, she admired him.
Feeling a bit uncomfortable under Harmony's gaze, James said, "Alright, you can leave me alone now. Don't worry about me. I'll just wander around here."
He had already eaten his fill earlier. He planned to find a corner to sit in for a while and then wait for Michael to come over to take him home.
Little did he know, Harmony saw through his thoughts immediately and said, "You wouldn't be thinking of sneaking away while no one's looking, would you?"
James was a bit surprised that Harmony had seen through him. He didn't bother to hide it and said, "I did have that thought. I'll tell Michael when he comes over, and then I'll leave."
Harmony looked at him quizzically. "James, you're really strange. Tonight's party has gathered all the wealthy and noble people of Lindwood City. Most people would kill to be here. Don't you want to make some connections with wealthy people and step into high society?"
Indeed, most men have the ambition to climb higher. But James was different, he seemed to want a simple life.
If it had been before, when Harmony didn't know James well, she would have thought he was good for nothing, only interested in eating and being lazy. But the truth proved that James wasn't like that. She knew James was more capable than most people.
Yet, James's personality puzzled Harmony.
James laughed. "What's so great about high society? I'm not interested in it."
"Then what are you interested in?" Harmony asked curiously.
James blurted out, "Sleeping with my wife."
Harmony was stunned, then blushed and cursed, "Rogue!"
James also felt a bit awkward. He found he had said something inappropriate.
"Isn't it normal for me to sleep with my wife?" James defended himself.
However, Harmony looked at him disdainfully and said, "Stop pretending. I know your secret. You've been married for so long and haven't even had sex with her."
