Chapter 562 Time is Running Out.
Upon hearing these words, Harmony's first reaction was one of astonishment. Then she realized James was likely joking with her. "Really? You get the point. Just yesterday, Jennifer told me she plans to take Dennis and Kaitlyn on a trip to Mars."
James said seriously, "I'm not joking with you. Jennifer, Dennis, and Kaitlyn are really missing! Has Jennifer said anything unusual to you in the past few days? Think carefully, this is important!"
Hearing the gravity in James's voice, Harmony sensed that something was terribly wrong. Panic started to rise within her as she became uncertain whether Jennifer had indeed disappeared, and whether Dennis and Kaitlyn had gone missing with her. Could it be that they had been kidnapped?
"What? Jennifer is really missing? Was she kidnapped by bad people?" Harmony said excitedly and anxiously. "My gosh, Jennifer is so beautiful. If she falls into the hands of bad people, will she be bullied?"
James felt very uncomfortable hearing this. He was afraid that Jennifer might have been harmed. If she was really violated by bad people, he would feel guilty and sad for the rest of his life.
But now, being anxious was useless. The only thing he could do was calm himself down and find Jennifer, Dennis, and Kaitlyn as quickly as possible.
"Drop it. Think carefully. In the past few days, no, in this period, has Jennifer said or done anything unusual? Including her usual demeanor, etc. Remember, these are clues, very important ones!" James said solemnly.
In truth, as James voiced this question, a deeper part of him believed that Jennifer’s disappearance was not a result of kidnapping but a deliberate and premeditated act on her part.
Harmony tried hard to recall. After about a few seconds, she suddenly shouted, "I get it!"
"What? Tell me!" James exclaimed.
Harmony said, "A week ago, when Jennifer and I were out shopping, we passed by a kindergarten and saw many children being picked up by their parents. She stood there for quite a while, with a distant look in her eyes, and said that she also longed to have a child. I told her that she could have one with you, after all, you both are still young. But she shook her head and uttered something inexplicably enigmatic."
"What did she say?" James asked nervously again.
Clio, who was beside him, was a bit confused seeing James so anxious. It was hard to connect this with his domineering image from two days ago.
After a pause, Harmony continued, "She claimed time was running out.'"
At this moment, James's mind was racing, trying to figure out the reason that Jennifer left. But the more anxious he was, the harder it was to calm down.
He was indeed a bit flustered now.
Suddenly, a terrible thought came to his mind. 'Can it be that Jennifer has some terminal illness?'
Quickly, he dismissed this thought.
Because he was the best doctor in the world. If Jennifer really had a terminal illness, it wouldn't escape his notice.
Moreover, Jennifer was well aware of his capabilities. Even in the worst-case scenario, if Jennifer were truly terminally ill, she would never be foolish enough to vanish without a word.
James was trapped in his thoughts.
"Is there anything else?" James asked again.
Harmony thought for a moment and said, "There was another time, just yesterday. I called Jennifer to invite her out for dinner, but she refused. She also declined my video call and chose to talk on the phone. From her voice, I vaguely heard a sob. Unfortunately, I didn't think much of it at the time."
At this point, Harmony suddenly scolded angrily, "James, you jerk! Did you do something to hurt Jennifer, making her so disappointed in you that she decided to leave with Dennis and Kaitlyn?"
James retorted irritably, "What a fool. If I really did something to hurt Jennifer, do you think you'd still be a virgin?"
Harmony thought it made some sense and blushed. Fair enough, James was like a block of wood. Even though she had been so proactive and had Jennifer's permission, James hadn't taken advantage of her. He wouldn't go out looking for a mistress.
Just as she was about to say something, James had already hung up the phone.
James didn't have the energy to care about what Harmony thought. Now that he had gotten the whereabouts of Mason and Yosef from Clio, he set off immediately.
Deep down, he knew the probability of Jennifer and her family being kidnapped by Mason and Yosef was low, but he had to try. The consequences of guessing wrong were too much for him to bear.
Clio thought for a moment and suggested, "Mr. Smith, Mason and Yosef are both prominent figures, especially Mason, who is the head of the Percy family in the City of Mysteries. If they die or are kidnapped in the public eye, it will be hard to deal with the aftermath."
James understood Clio's meaning and nodded, "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing. If my wife and in-laws weren't kidnapped by them, I won't touch them."
He didn't say the next sentence. If they were the kidnappers, then he would kill them.
Clio already understood James's character. She knew he was easygoing most of the time, but once he made a decision on a matter of principle, he wouldn't change it. She didn't bother to argue further.
Mason and Yosef were still in Serenity State, but they had left Lindwood City and gone to Suncrest City, the state capital, to attend a grand banquet.
But James didn't care about that. He was never a timid person.
Now, for Jennifer's sake, not to mention a mere banquet, he would venture into the most perilous places without hesitation!
Clio knew this banquet was not simple. She immediately advised, "Mr. Smith, I suggest you don't confront Mason and Yosef at the banquet."
James, resting with his eyes closed, didn't open his eyes and said calmly, "Oh? Are there many big shots at this banquet?"
"Yes!" Clio nodded, "This banquet is hosted by the Lawson family of Suncrest City. Many prestigious and powerful families from across the country will send representatives. Mason and Yosef happened to be in Serenity State, so they attended in person."
James immediately caught the key point and said, "This Lawson family of Suncrest City, are they very powerful?"
"Yes, very powerful!" Clio said solemnly.
