Chapter 473 Because You're a Jerk

Jeffery was equally astonished. He had always known that James was formidable, once the top expert among the younger generation in the City of Mysteries, but he never imagined he would be this powerful!

The wall was a load-bearing wall, and now James had punched a hole through it.

Was this really something a human could do?

At that moment, the manager happened to enter the adjacent room and witnessed the scene. It was beyond mere shock; his very soul quivered in terror.

James was incredibly powerful!

He seemed almost superhuman.

James pulled his fist out of the hole in the wall, his gaze sweeping over the faces of the guests at the table in the opposite room, making them shiver and quickly lower their heads, pretending nothing had happened.

"Jeffery, are you full? If you are, take me to pay respects to Donna and Gregory," James said in a deep voice.

"Okay." Jeffery nodded, then said somewhat awkwardly, "But I need to go home first."

Then James and Jeffery left the Serenity Haven Hotel together.

Jeffery had a family now. He lived quite far away, in the suburbs, and had to take the bus to work here every day, which was exhausting.

James thought his past five years had been tough, but compared to Jeffery, he was much better off.

One must understand that Jeffery was the youngest among the five of them; though he was only twenty-five, he looked as if he were in his forties or fifties. The extent of the suffering Jeffery had endured was beyond James's imagination.

Donna and Gregory had lost their lives.

Lester and his accomplices, the culprits, were already on James's must-kill target.

"Jeffery, have you been living in this place all these years?" After driving for an hour, James finally arrived at Jeffery's place, a dilapidated building. James didn't even know there were still such rundown places in the City of Mysteries.

Jeffery smiled awkwardly and said, "We moved here two years ago. It's cheap to live here."

James felt a pang in his heart again, patted Jeffery on the shoulder, and said seriously, "Jeffery, tomorrow I'll get you an apartment in the city center. You and your wife can move there."

"James." Jeffery said

"Listen to me." James resolutely responded.

Jeffery's eyes turned red with a flurry of grievance. He lowered his head without a word.

"Debra, I'm back. Open the door." Jeffery knocked on the door and shouted.

It was still a wooden door, weathered with age. Even though Jeffery knocked lightly, it resonated with a loud thud. The interior had been almost entirely devoured by termites.

There was no response from inside. Jeffery knocked harder, "Debra, open the door, I'm back."

After he spoke, a grumpy and impatient voice came from inside, "What are you shouting for, you bastard. You're so annoying!"

With this voice, Jeffery immediately showed an embarrassed expression and gave James a couple of awkward laughs, "Debra has a bad temper."

James waved his hand, indicating he didn't mind.

Then the door opened, and a plump, heavily made-up woman walked out. She looked about the same age as Jeffery, but the thick makeup and overpowering perfume, combined with her rather provocative attire, made her seem different.

Especially now, her clothes were a bit disheveled.

"Aren't you supposed to be at work? Why are you back so early? Did you get fired? I'm telling you, I need new makeup this month, so don't come up short!" Debra pointed at Jeffery's nose and scolded him, her words extremely harsh.

However, Jeffery didn't dare to retort. He explained softly, "My brother came back today, and we went to the Serenity Haven Hotel for a meal."

"What did you say? Are you dining at the Serenity Haven Hotel?" Debra burst into laughter, as if she had heard the most amusing joke. "Do you even know what the Serenity Haven Hotel is? It's a five-star hotel. One meal there costs more than you earn in a month, and yet here you are, claiming you'll dine at the Serenity Haven Hotel. Even a scoundrel like you has learned to lie now."

Jeffery flushed with embarrassment. While he had become accustomed to Debra's scoldings, the presence of James reawaken his long-dormant pride. He glared at Debra and retorted, "Who are you calling a scoundrel? I am your husband! And why would I lie to you? The Serenity Haven Hotel belongs to my brother!"

After he said this, Debra laughed even louder, looking at Jeffery as if he were an idiot.

At that moment, a portly man in his thirties emerged from the house, fastening his buttons with a mocking expression. "Ha ha, the Serenity Haven Hotel belongs to your brother? You must indeed be something special. I've seen many braggarts, but none quite like you. Why not claim your brother is God while you're at it? What a fool," he sneered.

The man walked over to Debra and, right in front of Jeffery, pinched her buttocks with a lecherous grin. "Jeffery, your wife Debra is quite skillful in bed. She takes great care of me. I'll be back in a few days," he said, his face full of vulgarity.

Instantly, Jeffery's pupils contracted, his body trembled, his face turned pale. He pointed at the two of them with fury, "Debra! Are you actually betraying me and sleeping with someone else?"

James's expression also turned ugly at this scene. But he didn't rush to act. He wanted to see what things would happen.

Debra showed no sign of shame. In fact, she looked at Jeffery with even more disdain and contempt. Wrapping her arm around the fat man's, she planted a kiss on his cheek and said, "I have been with him for a long time; it's just that you, an idiot, never noticed. Jeffery, did you honestly think a scoundrel like you could marry me? I'm merely pitying you. What are you staring at? Give me some money; I’m going out with Francis Clark."

As she spoke, she reached out to Jeffery for money.

James had never seen such a woman.

In the past, when he was the son-in-law of the Johnson family, even during the darkest times, Jennifer was merely harsh towards him. She never sought comfort in someone else's arms, nor did she ever demand money from him.

Jeffery closed his eyes, his whole being in despair. His body swayed as if his soul had been sucked out, and he said in a hoarse voice, "Debra, why? Why do you betray like this? I've been so good to you, giving you all the money I earn."

Debra felt not the slightest bit touched; instead, she sneered with disdain, "Why? Because you're a bastard. With that meager amount you earn each month, do you think you can support me? Pathetic!"

With that, she really spat on Jeffery.
