Chapter 108: Seeking Help from James
"This... this... this..." Orlando was trembling, his teeth chattering, and he could barely hold the wooden sword in his hand.
Logically, it was just a small accident, and he shouldn't be this scared.
But while Orlando was not a normal guy, he was a Taoist and could sense it very clearly. The evil spirit's aura was so thick and terrifying that if he stayed any longer, he might end up dead.
"Mr. Wolf, what's going on here? Didn't you say you had already taken care of it yesterday?" Michael's tone was full of dissatisfaction and blame.
"Yesterday and today, can they be the same?" Orlando tried to quibble and prepared to leave.
Michael's face immediately changed. He pointed at Orlando and cursed, "Orlando, what do you mean by that? You took my money, and now you want to run away?"
The others surrounding Orlando were very angry.
Seeing this situation, Orlando was a bit scared but still arrogantly said, "I haven't even questioned you yet, and you're questioning me. I suppressed the evil spirit's aura here yesterday. Did you touch something you shouldn't have?"
"Bastard!" Michael cursed. "We didn't touch anything here after we left yesterday."
"That's impossible," Orlando said firmly, his eyes scanning the area. When he saw two trees on the east side that had been cut in half, his eyes lit up, and he shouted, "Those two trees were still here when I came yesterday, and now you've cut them down. Michael, you still say you didn't touch anything?"
Hearing this, everyone started to feel a bit doubtful.
'Could it really be because of cutting down those two trees?' they thought.
Michael frowned and said, "Could it really be because of cutting down those two trees?"
Seeing that Michael was starting to believe him, Orlando felt relieved and, with a hint of luck in his eyes.
He solemnly said, "Of course! Those two trees had a significant impact on this place. They were key to suppressing the evil spirit's aura. You cut them down, and the evil spirits immediately emerged."
"Then what should we do? Is there any way to fix it?" Michael became respectful towards Orlando again.
"There is a way, but..." Orlando paused, coughed, and looked troubled. Michael, knowing what he meant, cursed inwardly but had to smile and say, "Don't worry. I won't let you work for nothing. As long as you can solve the problem, I'll transfer the remaining fifty million dollars to you immediately."
Orlando showed an unhappy expression. "You're not being sincere. The situation has become more severe because of you. It will cost more!"
Michael raised an eyebrow, suppressing his anger, and said, "Then how much do you want?"
Orlando didn't answer immediately. Instead, he walked around with a compass, frowning and sighing. "It's hard to dispel the evil spirits."
The needle on his compass was spinning wildly, looking very frightening.
Michael gritted his teeth and held up three fingers. "Thirty million dollars! As long as you can solve the problem, I'll give you another thirty million dollars."
Hearing this, Orlando's eyes lit up with joy. He coughed, pretending not to care about the money, stroked his goatee, and said, "Since you're so sincere, I'll help you one more time. But let's be clear, I won't wait three days this time; I need the money immediately."
"Okay." Michael nodded vigorously.
This project was too important to Michale. If it failed, he would lose billions of dollars, so he was desperate to solve this problem.
Orlando moved to a different spot, deliberately avoiding the construction scaffolding, and began setting up his ritual again in an open area.
Just like yesterday, he swung the wooden sword energetically, making it quite a spectacle.
However, just as he stepped onto the table and finished the ritual, ready to jump down, he suddenly slipped. With a loud "ouch," he fell face-first onto a hard stone, bleeding painfully.
The people around even heard the sound of bones breaking. Orlando's nose was broken!
This sudden incident shocked everyone.
"Fuck, it hurts so much, damn!" Orlando's face was covered in blood, his expression twisted, and his nose was broken, looked very frightening.
Just as he fell, his wooden sword stabbed into his chest. Luckily, it was made of wood and not too hard; if it had been metal, he would have been dead by now. Even so, he was in great pain.
Everyone thought, ‘If what happened before could be called an accident, how should this be explained? This was too bizarre!
Some workers were so scared that they left immediately and some mumbled scarily.
"I'm not doing this anymore! This is too damn creepy!"
"Me neither. If I keep working here, I'll lose my life."
"Rex, you better find other workers. I'm out."
Rex immediately panicked. He had pulled a lot of strings to get this project from Michael, and completing this job would earn him as much as he usually made in three years. He didn't want to waste this opportunity, so he hurriedly said, "Don't leave! What just happened was an accident. I'll give everyone a raise, five dollars more per hour. How about that? We can discuss this further."
"No amount of money is worth it! We might earn money but won't live to spend it."
"Exactly, I have a family to support. I can't afford to get into trouble."
"Let's go. Let's go."
They all made up their minds.
In an instant, out of a hundred workers left, making the construction site emptier.
This made the atmosphere even colder.
"Mr. Brown, what should we do now?" Rex asked anxiously.
Michael was also very frustrated. He had spent a lot of effort to win this land from many competitors at an auction. He even hired experts to survey it, and it was considered a good place. How did things suddenly go so wrong?
He was a materialist and never believed in evil spirits, but a series of bizarre events since the construction started forced him to change his worldview.
He had finally managed to bring Orlando there, thinking he could smoothly solve the problem and get everything back on track. But he never expected things to escalate to this point.
"Mr. Wolf, can you handle this or not?" Michael was getting angry.
Orlando got up from the ground and was genuinely scared. His face no longer showed the calmness from before. He pinched his fingers to predict, and his face suddenly changed, spitting out a mouthful of blood in terror. "How can this be? It shouldn't be like this..."
Seeing Orlando's expression, even Michael knew they were in big trouble. He urgently asked, "Mr. Wolf, what's going on now?"
Orlando tried to calm down, while his voice trembling. "Mr. Brown, the evil spirit's aura here is too thick. It's beyond my abilities. I advise you to abandon this place. Otherwise, it won't just be a business failure; it could harm the next generation."
"What?" Michael shuddered.
Seeing Orlando about to leave, he quickly grabbed him and said, "Where are you going? You promised to help me solve this problem."
Orlando smiled bitterly. "Mr. Brown, it's not that I don't want to; it's that I can't. I advise you to leave quickly. If you stay here, you might die soon."
With that, he forcefully shook off Michael and was about to leave.
Hearing this, Michael was stunned, his face losing all color.
At this moment, a voice rang out. "Michael, why don't we call James and have him come over? Maybe he can solve this."
It was Harmony speaking. She was also terrified by what had just happened. The series of events went beyond her common sense.
Michael was momentarily excited but then felt dejected. He shook his head and sighed. "What's the use of calling James? He's a doctor, not an expert."
Harmony said, "James is very capable. Yesterday, he said Orlando wouldn't be able to handle it and predicted that if we started work today, someone would die. Didn't he get it right? Maybe James really has a way. At this point, don't worry about whether he's a doctor or not."
Though she made a good point, Michael was still hesitant. He had treated James very poorly yesterday and wasn't sure if James would be willing to come back and help him.
Considering the importance of this project, Michael gritted his teeth and said, "Alright, I'll call him right now."
Orlando, who was about to leave, suddenly stopped and stayed when he heard their conversation.
Michael reluctantly called James. As Harmony said, he had no choice but to seek help from James now. Deep down, he didn't believe James had the ability to solve a problem that even Orlando couldn't handle.
The call went through.
"Hi, James, it's Michael. Are you available now?" asked Michael.
"Yes, I already guess what happened, I will come right away," said James and a short call ended.
Michael hung up the phone and looked back to see James, dressed in white, walking over.
In fact, James had arrived a while ago but had been hiding on the other side.
He had planned to come early to prevent any disaster, but when he came the worker had already died.
After Orlando arrived, he didn't rush to come out. Yesterday, when Orlando performed the ritual and sprinkled blood, everyone attending that scene got contaminated with the evil spirit's aura. If James came back, he would inevitably get hurt, and in severe cases, he might even die.
Looking at the lifeless worker on the ground, James sighed and sensed the evil spirit's aura around him. His expression became serious as he said to Michael, "The situation is even more severe than I imagined."
