Chapter 431 Father and Son Reunion

Actually, the person on the other end of the phone was James's father, Saxon Smith.

James hadn't heard this voice for over five years. Now, hearing it again, countless memories flashed through his mind.

He thought it was a call from the Smith Family, but he didn't expect it to be from Saxon.

After a moment of silence, Saxon said, "You couldn't hold on?"

"No, I fell in love for real," James confessed truthfully.

With this, Saxon let out a heavy sigh on the other end, "The thing I feared the most has happened."

James could fully sense Saxon's helplessness and disappointment towards him.

Undoubtedly, James was a prodigy, outshining all his peers. With him around, there was no talk of geniuses because even the second-best was far inferior to him.

Because of this, James was so dazzling. His grandfather, Alistair, resolutely sent him to an ordinary family to endure five years and temper his character.

For someone like him, there shouldn't be anything in the world that could stump him.

It wasn't just his grandfather Alistair who had high hopes for him; his father Saxon did, too. They were both waiting for James to complete his mission successfully and return to the City of Mysteries with a brand-new impression, stunning everyone.

But he fell in love with a woman.

It's utterly ridiculous. To the Smith Family, this was an insult.

"Come home tomorrow. I'll send someone to pick you up. The mission is successfully completed." Saxon's tone became much more serious.

James could clearly understand Saxon's meaning, which was to abandon this relationship and return to the Smith Family.

James didn't answer, or rather, his silence was his answer.

A few seconds later, Saxon's tone carried a hint of anger, "James, don't forget your identity!"

"Father, I love her," James replied.

"Stop being ridiculous!" Saxon was furious. He had never expected such an answer, "You must come back tomorrow. Alistair's test for you is over."

James felt very conflicted, as if his thoughts were being torn apart.

Seeing that James remained silent, Saxon's tone softened slightly, "Alistair has great expectations for you. Do not disappoint him. Once you return, the heir's position will be yours. Alistair is aging and should retire."

James said, "I'll bring her back tomorrow."

Saxon's tone instantly turned frigid, "Have you forgotten the rules of the Smith Family?"

"Father, I'm sorry, but I can't give her up," James said.

Saxon was very angry and also very surprised. Honestly, he had never expected James to give up the position of heir for a woman. This was completely out of character for James.

What exactly happened to James in these five and a half years?

This time it lasted even longer with silence.

The two of them just held the phone, not words to each other.

A multitude of words were conveyed in that silence.

"I'll be back tomorrow," Saxon said, with his tone filled with helplessness.

James's lips moved as if he wanted to say something. Then, he didn't. He just responded, "Okay."

The call ended.

James didn't go back to his room immediately. He continued to stand on the balcony, gazing into the distance.

Finally, Jennifer came out, holding a coat in her hand, which she draped over James's shoulders. Then she hugged him from behind.

"Is it a call from your family?"

"Yes," James nodded.

"Will you go back?" Jennifer's tone carried a hint of nervousness."

"James turned around, pulling Jennifer into his arms, wrapping the coat around both of them. It was very warm.

"I won't leave you," James said with a faint smile, but his tone was very firm.

Jennifer's eyes were a bit red with tears. She hadn't come out of the room earlier, but she had heard James's conversation at the door and felt the gravity of the situation.

She held James's hand, their fingers interlocked, and without speaking, they could feel each other's intentions.

That night, they still didn't take that step, which made James feel quite helpless.

The last time, just as they were about to have sex, Harmony called.

And this time, the same thing happened. Just as they were about to have sex, Saxon called.

James didn't fall asleep until very late. It wasn't that he had insomnia; he just didn't want to sleep and thought about many things.

The next morning, after James and Jennifer had breakfast, they went to the clinic.

Around noon, the clinic welcomed a distinguished middle-aged man, Saxon.

He was dressed in casual sportswear, his skin was very fair, and he looked healthy, exuding an elegant aura. Upon closer inspection, one could see a strong resemblance to James.

As soon as Saxon stepped into the clinic, he instantly attracted everyone's attention. His appearance wasn't particularly outstanding, but his aura was like a magnet, drawing everyone's attention.

This middle-aged man was, actually, James's father, Saxon. He had really come.

After entering, his gaze swept around and immediately spotted Jennifer, then walked over.

Jennifer also noticed him but didn't recognize Saxon's identity. She just felt that this middle-aged man in front of her must be someone important.

"Hello, if you need to see a doctor, please line up first," Jennifer said with a smile.

Saxon didn't speak, with his gaze lingering on Jennifer, then he gently shook his head, indicating his dissatisfaction.

In terms of appearance, Jennifer was flawless, more than worthy of James. But beyond looks, there was nothing about her that matched James.

Jennifer felt the other person's arrogance and disappointment towards her. It was a condescending attitude that made Jennifer feel a bit uncomfortable.

She didn't realize that this distinguished middle-aged man was James's father.

Then, James walked out from inside and saw Saxon. He wasn't surprised at all because he had sensed Saxon's approach as soon as he got close to the clinic.

Since his energy center had doubled, his strength had skyrocketed, and all his senses had become much sharper.

When Saxon saw James, his pupils contracted sharply, revealing uncontrollable surprise.

It was not a matter of his composure being deficient; rather, the present James stood in stark contrast to the James of five years past.
