Chapter 487 She Is Just an Ordinary Woman
Lisa and Heather really misunderstood James.
Actually, James wasn’t entirely unfamiliar with Cynthia and Brenda; he simply forgot for a moment.
Heather couldn't help but say, "As someone in the industry, how could you not know Cynthia and Brenda? Who are you trying to fool?"
This time, Lisa didn't stop Heather's rant because she also wanted to chime in. 'You're overdoing it a bit, aren't you? After all, Cynthia and Brenda are as famous as me, Lisa. If you don't know them, does that mean you don't know me, either? To be blunt, in the entire City of Mysteries, how many people in the industry wouldn't know the three beauties of the City of Mysteries? Besides, Cynthia is a popular star!' Lisa thought.
With their expressions, James finally realized and said with sudden understanding, "Are you meaning those two beauties as famous as you? It's not them."
Lisa was once again surprised and confused inside, 'If it's not Cynthia and Brenda, then who could it be?'
"Mr. Smith, are you making this up to avoid the marriage?" Lisa said with a smile.
James shook his head, "I'm not. Ms. Savoy, I know this matter has damaged your reputation. When we get back, I'll publicly declare that it was my fault."
After hearing this, Lisa felt even more uncomfortable. It wasn't because of James's disrespect, but because James was too respectful, making her feel completely uneasy. Things were entirely out of her expected rhythm.
"Mr. Smith, are you insulting me?" Lisa said with a raised eyebrow, staring at James.
James thought for a moment and said, "How about I say I don't like you, so you can insult me?"
Why did Lisa suddenly feel the urge to hit someone?
For a moment, Lisa didn't know how to respond.
Just then, the waiter brought the food, which was some exquisite dishes that were clearly made by a top chef, with excellent color, aroma, and taste, and a particularly good presentation, exuding an air of nobility.
The waiter's arrival broke the awkward atmosphere between them.
Lisa picked up her knife and fork and started eating. Lisa was indeed a perfect woman. She wasn't just superficially beautiful with a good figure; the most charming thing was her elegance and allure in every smile and gesture, as if she had a magical power, exuding endless charm, which was a deadly poison to most men.
For a moment, James was also momentarily lost in thought.
"Mr. Smith, you really know how to joke." Lisa said as she put a piece of foie gras into her mouth and chewed elegantly.
While admiring Lisa's beauty, James remained composed and remarked with a gentle smile, "Ms. Savoy, you wouldn't want to become a pawn in a family alliance, would you?"
"What do you mean by that?" Lisa said with a smile, taking a small sip of red wine.
James said, "It's simple. From the way you look at me, I don't see any satisfaction and you even seem dissatisfied with me."
Lisa wanted to roll her eyes. 'I'm dissatisfied with you because of your earlier behavior, not because of who you are. I don't have any dissatisfaction with you initially.' Lisa thought.
However, James's words did surprise her a bit. She didn't expect James to be so perceptive and to see through her thoughts.
"Who says I don't approve of you? I highly approve of you. You're the eldest son of the Smith family, highly skilled, and very capable. Our future children will surely be outstanding." Lisa said something that didn't match her image. James didn't feel much, but Heather was very surprised. Could it be that Lisa really liked James? After all, Lisa had never said such playful things.
James also smiled and said, "Ms. Savoy, you're teasing me. You don't love me. If we get married, it would be an unhappy marriage."
The word of love appeared in Lisa's mind, confusing her. For a moment, she couldn't even imagine what love was or what it meant.
This word was something she had only encountered in movies and television dramas; she had never experienced it herself. She had never loved a man, nor had she ever placed importance on love. Her choice of James was primarily due to his status and abilities.
"Mr. Smith, don't you think it's unrealistic for us children of wealthy families to talk about love? As far as I know, your parents also had an arranged marriage, right?" Lisa said this with undisguised disdain in her tone.
In her view, love was a deceptive thing.
James wasn't angry; he actually understood Lisa's thoughts because before he met Jennifer, he also scoffed at love.
For the wealthy and noble, love was both a luxury and a poison.
"Ms. Savoy, a marriage without love is incomplete. I understand your thoughts. Once upon a time, I was just like you, scoffing at love, thinking it was a deceptive thing. Until I met my wife, I began to understand that love is the most precious thing in the world." James spoke gently and sincerely.
To be honest, James's words once again shocked Lisa. Was this gentleman in front of her really the James she knew? Could he actually say such things?
Her jealousy towards that woman deepened.
"Mr. Smith, may I ask, who is this wife you love so much? Which family's daughter is she?" Lisa also became serious.
Lisa was really curious about what kind of woman could make James so devoted, even rejecting her.
James thought for a moment and said, "She's not from any prominent family. She's just a girl from an ordinary family."
Lisa's first reaction was that James was lying, trying to deceive her.
How could someone who could make James so devoted be from an ordinary family? That was crazy.
Otherwise, James wasn't married at all and couldn't tell her the truth for some unspeakable reason.
Heather also looked at James with disdain, thinking he was a playboy.
"Mr. Smith, there's no point in lying, is there? How could a girl who moves your heart be from an ordinary family? No one would believe that." Lisa said with a mocking smile.
Ordinarily, given Lisa's temperament, she would never display such an expression, but James had crossed a line. How dare he offer such a feeble excuse to placate her? Did he take her for an ignorant girl?
