Chapter 82 Encounter with Curtis
James and Jennifer finished washing up one after the other, then checked out together and went downstairs. As they came out of the hotel, they saw a few people walking on the opposite side.
"Lynn, let's go to another store, go another route," a young man blocked Curtis's line of sight and said with a smile.
"Hmm? Why did you change your mind?" Curtis, not seeing James and Jennifer, asked curiously.
Apart from him, the others had already seen James and Jennifer. One of them exclaimed in surprise, "Oh my, isn't that the girl you brought last time, Lynn?"
"What?" Curtis immediately questioned and frowned, he pushed the young man in front of him aside, and saw James and Jennifer walking side by side on the opposite side, just coming out of the hotel together.
His face darkened instantly, his mouth twitching.
Seeing him like this, the others didn't continue speaking. Anyone would be furious in such a situation, let alone someone like Curtis, who has high self-esteem.
Curtis was indeed very angry. He had invested a lot of effort and money in Jennifer, even rejecting many women just to win over Jennifer completely.
He knew Jennifer was married, and he knew her husband was useless, a good-for-nothing waste who hadn't touched Jennifer in five years. What a eunuch of modern times! That's why he was so passionate about Jennifer.
For him, whether Jennifer was married or not didn't matter as long as she was still a virgin.
But recently, Jennifer had started to become distant, hardly reaching out to him proactively, often not replying to his messages, and rarely answering his calls. His attempts to meet Jennifer were also rejected.
He had never been treated like this by a woman before, and he was already feeling displeased. Now, seeing James and Jennifer coming out of the hotel together, it was clear they shared a room, and he had a mental breakdown!
Someone questioned, "Damn, who is this guy, daring to meddle in Lynn's affairs? "
Another chimed in, "Yeah, Lynn could crush him with just one hand."
One added, "Let's go, let's meet this guy and see who he is."
Several companions spoke up for Curtis. They were all kinds of people who wanted to make a mess.
Curtis's expression was grim. In his eyes, Jennifer had betrayed him and tarnished his reputation, which is an unforgivable offense.
As for James, he didn't think much of him. From what he knew, James was just a lazy, good-for-nothing waste.
He snorted heavily, said nothing, and strode towards James and Jennifer.
James suddenly sensed strong hostility coming towards them. He turned his head and saw Curtis and four men approaching them aggressively.
"What's going on?" Jennifer asked as James stopped, turning her head to see Curtis approaching with an unfriendly expression, causing her heartbeat to race.
For some reason, if it were as before, she would have been afraid that Curtis would misunderstand, but now, she was more worried that James would misunderstand instead.
So, she immediately took James's hand and said, "Let’s leave here, don't mind them, James."
James was somewhat surprised. Was Jennifer starting to care about his thoughts? This had never happened before.
Honestly, James had always harbored some resentment towards Curtis. Fortunately, Jennifer hadn't fallen for Curtis; otherwise, he would have been in a tough spot.
James didn't really want to be bothered with Curtis, not out of fear, but because he was hungry. It was past nine, and he hadn't eaten anything yet.
Curtis walked quickly and, in the blink of an eye, stood in front of James and Jennifer, staring directly at Jennifer. "Jennifer, where are you two in such a hurry to go?" he asked.
There was a smile on his face, but there was no trace of warmth; rather, it was intimidating.
Jennifer frowned and said, "James and I are going home. Please step aside."
"Step aside?" Curtis sneered, "Jennifer, does this road belong to you?"
His mood was far from calm now, his words laced with anger.
Jennifer regretted encountering Curtis at this moment. If she had known, she would have come out later.
Seeing Jennifer remain silent, Curtis continued, "You've been avoiding me lately because of this useless guy?"
"He's not useless," Jennifer retorted.
Curtis scoffed, "Is that so? How come I remember you calling him useless in front of me all the time? How come now, you're getting along with this useless guy?"
Jennifer's face turned cold. She scolded him, "Curtis, mind your words. James is my husband, and I won't allow you to defame him!"
Upon hearing the word 'husband,' the four men were immediately stunned. What kind of drama was this? They didn't know about Jennifer's background; they had only met her at the last gathering when Curtis brought her as his companion.
They even assumed that Curtis was being cuckolded, but it turned out he was the one seducing a married woman?
As Curtis heard Jennifer's words, his expression grew even darker, his fists clenched. Those who knew him could tell he was genuinely angry.
He never thought he was seducing a married woman. In his point of view, he should be Jennifer's husband. He was the first to know Jennifer and the first to pursue her.
Five years ago, when he heard about Jennifer's marriage, he was furious. However, at that time, he was about to go abroad for further studies, so he could only accept the fact that the woman he loved was taken away by someone else.
Finally, when he returned from his studies as an elite, he founded a company within two years of returning to the country. Under his superb management, it flourished, and he became a sought-after diamond bachelor in the eyes of countless women.
Although he had been involved with many women during his lifetime, he had always been waiting for Jennifer. She was his college goddess, the woman he loved the most, and he was determined to win her over!
But now, Jennifer had stood him up. One moment she was flirting with him, the next she was in James's arms!
He was angry, truly angry. Jennifer's actions felt like a betrayal to him.
Curtis was furious, but he didn't lose his composure. He understood that the more crucial the situation was, the more he needed to stay calm.
‘Jennifer despised her useless husband; there was no doubt about that. She had complained to me about him many times, and I was sure Jennifer liked me. That's why she had maintained this ambiguous relationship for so long,’ he judged inwardly.
He carefully assessed James and was certain that James was indeed a useless man who wouldn't dare to say a word in front of him.
One possibility was that he had done something to anger Jennifer, causing her to ignore him deliberately and act intimately with James to provoke him and make him care.
"Jennifer, can you come with me for a moment? I have something to tell you," Curtis coaxed, having figured things out, regained his elegant demeanor, gazing affectionately at Jennifer.
Jennifer instinctively wanted to refuse, but she immediately thought that since the situation was awkward and intense, she might as well take this opportunity to clarify things with Curtis and end this relationship.
However, she didn't agree immediately. Instead, she looked at James, seeking his opinion.
James nodded without stopping her.
In Curtis's eyes, James's magnanimity appeared as a sign of weakness, causing a smirk to play on his lips, further deepening his disdain for James.
