Chapter 396 Provocation from a Genius Student
This minor incident disrupted James's train of thought. Standing at the lectern, he felt like he was walking on eggshells. Jennifer's intense stare from the crowd made it tough for him to focus, so he just stood there, silent, for almost ten secondes.
Thanks to his earlier performance, everyone had a newfound respect for him. The students stayed quiet, looking at him with puzzled expressions.
Taking another deep breath, James quickly glanced at Jennifer. He grabbed a piece of chalk, turned to the blackboard, and started writing. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and forced himself to chill out, pushing away all the distracting thoughts.
He wrote "Medical Ethics" on the board, then turned back to the class and said, "Just like being a good person comes before doing things, medical ethics are more important than medical skills."
Then he launched into his lecture, sharing his thoughts with the students.
Jame's voice was super pleasant, resonant, and magnetic, almost like it had a spell on it, drawing people in without them even realizing it. Even leaders like Eryx got into James's rhythm and listened intently to his lecture.
The more they listened, the more surprised they were, and the harder it was to look away, like they were watching their favorite movie.
James got into the groove. His medical expertise was top-notch. Beyond that, his experiences and worldview were way broader than most people's. He spoke smoothly, with a perfect pace, and his points were eye-opening and refreshing for everyone.
At first, some students thought James was too young to respect, but they gradually started to admire him, listening closely and taking notes like crazy, afraid to miss anything.
James was so into his lecture that he didn't notice if the students were keeping up with the deep knowledge he was dropping. When he finally saw the students frantically taking notes with confused looks, he realized he might've gone too far.
"Class is over. If you have any questions, feel free to ask," James said.
The students were still in a daze, as the knowledge James had shared was really deep for them. They were utterly bewildered and could only comprehend a fragment.
It wasn't just the students; even some of the teachers and professors auditing the class had trouble understanding. They wanted to ask questions to clear things up but felt it was awkward given their status.
Seeing the students' reactions, James felt a bit helpless. He had tried to make it simple and easy to understand, but he had overestimated their ability to absorb the material. After all, not every student was as talented and quick to learn as he was.
After James encouraged the students to ask questions again, a brave student finally raised his hand. After being called on by James, he stood up to ask his question.
The question was about a point James had just made, which was simple for James but pretty advanced for the students.
James generously clarified the point, using simple language to help the students get it.
With the first question asked, more students quickly followed, raising their hands to ask questions, and James answered them one by one.
Teaching these students was a breeze for James. Questions that left the students scratching their heads were a piece of cake for him, and he could answer them in just a few sentences. Instantly, the students who were initially skeptical of him began to admire him greatly. Any prior doubts vanished entirely.
But not everyone was impressed. Fintan, sitting next to Jennifer, was particularly unhappy with James.
Fintan was the top medical student in the country;he was incredibly smart, and had a natural talent for medicine since he was a kid. He could learn things at lightning speed.
All the teachers and professors saw Fintan as a genius. Even before he graduated, he had offers from major hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and even international medical teams.
Fintan had fair skin and looked gentle and polite on the outside, but deep down, he was super arrogant. He believed he was the brightest star in the medical field, destined to be a legendary doctor.
Now, here was this newcomer, only a few years older than him, standing up here as his professor, speaking confidently in front of hundreds of people. Even though James was clearly skilled, Fintan felt uncomfortable.. He couldn't stand the idea of another genius in the room.
Especially since he noticed Jennifer hadn't taken her eyes off James since they walked in, her eyes full of admiration and infatuation. This made him even more uncomfortable, turning his dissatisfaction into outright hostility.
Fintan had fallen for Jennifer at first sight. The moment he saw her, he was already imagining their future kids' names. Even though Jennifer was a few years older, he didn't care. A goddess like Jennifer should be with a genius like him.
Now, someone else had captured Jennifer's attention, and that was unacceptable to him! So his hostility towards James grew stronger.
Sometimes, a guy's hostility towards another guy could be sudden and straightforward.
Without raising his hand or waiting for permission, Fintan stood up and said with a sarcastic smile, "Your theoretical knowledge is so rich and impressive. I wonder how you perform in practice? Can you actually cure people?"
His words were clearly a deliberate provocation.
Many students started looking forward to what would happen next. Most of them knew Fintan's personality—extremely arrogant. Many didn't like him, but they had to admit his talent in medicine was exceptional.
James had sensed Fintan's hostility earlier. He wasn't surprised by the challenge and responded with a faint smile, "Yeah, I can cure people."
Fintan continued, "Then can you show us?"
Fintan's words were an obvious provocation, and many leaders were a bit displeased.
James could easily see through Fintan's intentions. He didn't bother to engage with such an arrogant student and deliberately ignored his words, asking the other students, "Any more questions? If not, class is over."
Seeing James ignore him, Fintan sneered, thinking James was feeling guilty, and said, "James, you just told us that in medicine, we must not rely solely on theory but also practice. Are you deliberately avoiding my question because you're feeling diffident?"
