Chapter 609 Your Highness, Let’s Keep it Professional

Speaking of which, James wasn't a particularly handsome man. His looks were at best considered pleasant, and logically, he shouldn't have been able to attract someone like Selina, who had a penchant for good-looking men. But James had a maturity and confidence that surpassed his peers, with a commanding presence. When he sat there, he naturally became the center of attention.

After everything that had just gone down, Selina couldn't help but respect his skills. He'd just saved her life, which pretty much made him her knight in shining armor. Growing up in Frostreach, where chivalry was a big deal, it was no surprise Selina started feeling something for him.

James immediately noticed this from her expression.

Selina said, "Mr. Smith, I apologize sincerely for offending you today."

James waved his hand, indicating it was nothing.

His chill vibe would've ticked most people off, but not Selina. Instead, she thought it was kind of hot—like he had that whole "too cool to care" thing going on.

She leaned in closer, sitting right next to him. "You're giving me the cold shoulder, Mr. Smith. Still mad about how I acted earlier, huh?"

James felt a bit helpless; this Selina was really quite 'enthusiastic.'

James had to force a smile and said, "Your Highness, I'm not angry with you. This is my duty. You are my employer; how could I be angry?"

James emphasized the word "employer," hinting to Selina that he was just a bodyguard and that her advances were futile.

But Selina didn't seem to get the hint. She batted her big eyes at him and said, "Mr. Smith, I'm really scared tonight. I don't think I can sleep. Would you stay with me?"

As she spoke, Selina grabbed James's hand and leaned her body against him.

James looked uncomfortable. Selina was coming on way too strong. They hadn't even known each other for a full day, and she was already throwing herself at him. What kind of wild lifestyle did she have back home?

James wasn't exactly a saint. If he were single, he might've gone for it—she was a princess, after all. Sleeping with her would've been a flex. But James was already married, so he decided to pass on this one.

He cleared his throat and politely shut her down, "Your Highness, don't worry. I'll keep watch from the living room. If any assassins show up, I'll handle it. If you're scared, Agent Rose can bunk with you."

James thought he had made himself clear enough. If Selina had any emotional intelligence, she should leave.

But he underestimated Selina's boldness. She directly hugged him, "Mr. Smith, I like you. Stay with me tonight and give me an unforgettable memory in Sunlandia."

Selina directly hugged James. No, to be precise, she pounced on him.

"Your Highness!" James was a bit stunned. What kind of princess was this, so rough?

Truth be told, Selina was just as surprised. She wasn't usually this forward, even with her Frostreach flair for romance. She'd planned to take things slow, maybe build some tension, but the closer she got to James, the more she felt this undeniable pull—like she wanted him to take charge, to just sweep her off her feet.

James was blindsided when Selina lunged at him, leaving him momentarily thrown off balance.

But he snapped back fast, his voice firm and steady. "Your Highness, let's keep it professional, alright?"

Selina caught the icy edge in his gaze and snapped out of it. "Sorry," she muttered, scrambling off him, her cheeks burning with embarrassment.

For the next week, James stayed to protect Selina, and the mysterious organization didn't send any more assassins.

This made James quite relieved.

James had taken a hit from Arianwen, but it didn't cause much harm, and he recovered in four days.

After that night, Selina didn't stop messing around with James, but he repeatedly ignored her, which dealt a significant blow to her confidence, making her start to doubt her own charm.

As for Arianwen…

After barely escaping James, she made it back to a hidden base and broke the news to her boss: mission failed.

"What? You failed?"

Arianwen stood in a dimly lit room, staring at a hyper-realistic 3D hologram of a middle-aged man that looked like he was standing right in front of her.

The holographic projection of the middle-aged man was tall, with a mechanical mask covering his face, revealing only his eyes. When he heard Arianwen's report, his eyes flashed with a terrifying light, both shocked and angry.

"Yes, everyone else is dead except me," Arianwen said expressionlessly, her eyes devoid of any emotion, like a machine.

The middle-aged man said coldly, "Explain the situation."

Arianwen recounted everything that had happened. After listening, the middle-aged man was silent for a moment before saying, "You mean there's a Sunlandia agent by the princess's side, with strength at the peak of the fourth stage of a warrior, capable of taking on five people at once?"

"Yes," Arianwen nodded, having completely forgotten about James.

"How did you escape?" the middle-aged man asked, frowning.

Arianwen said, "He seems to know me."

After hearing this, the middle-aged man's eyes changed, showing a meaningful look, "I know who he is. I didn't expect him to grow this much in just five years."

At this moment, a young man behind Arianwen stood up and said, "King, let me carry out the 'Ruthless' mission. A young man at the peak of the fourth stage—I wanna see what he's made of."

This guy was rocking a deep purple outfit with a bat-like vibe. His face was pale, almost vampiric. Not exactly movie-star handsome, but he had this edgy, magnetic look, with a devilish grin on his face.

'King' said, "Slayer, don't underestimate James. He's very powerful."

Slayer's smile widened, "Powerful is interesting. I hope he doesn't disappoint me."

"Alright, the Ruthless mission is yours, Slayer. Don't disappoint me."

"Of course not," Slayer said nonchalantly.

Then 'King' disappeared, and Slayer said to Arianwen, "Ruthless, once I kill your old lover, you'll be mine. I can't wait to taste you."
