Chapter 482 No Negotiation

Next, James and Jeffery headed to Donna and Gregory's grave again, informing them that their revenge had been taken and they could rest in peace.

Then James settled Jeffery and returned alone to the Smith manor.

"James, you're back." It was Zaiden who opened the door for James. James nodded and then smiled, "What's the matter? Everyone looks so serious."

Zaiden said, "James, Alistair is already aware that you killed Lester."

James had already guessed this and wasn't surprised. He nodded and walked in.

"Zaiden, just say what you want to say." James said.

"James, Alistair wants you to go to his study." Zaiden said

"Okay." James nodded.

After a pause, Zaiden continued, "James, Alistair seems a bit angry this time."

James understood Zaiden's meaning, which was to advise him to be more respectful in front of Alistair. "Well, I know."

When James got home, he encountered Saxon, who said to James in a deep voice, "Did you really kill Lester at the Silver Eagle Conference?"

James nodded, "Yes."

Saxon sighed and said, "You acted impulsively this time. Our Smith family was just about to collaborate with the Percy family. Well, never mind that. Alistair has summoned you to the study; be humble. Though the Percy family is prominent, they still fall short compared to our Smith family. Alistair will be able to protect you."

James nodded and walked straight into the study.

In the room, there were other members of the Smith family. Caroline and Trevor were also there, and they were the most gloating. This time, James had caused a big trouble, and Alistair would definitely punish him. Maybe to preserve the cooperation with the Percy family, Alistair would hand James over. In that case, their son Wylie would have a chance.

It was James's own fault. He really thought that Alistair's favor allowed him to do whatever he wanted, even killing a member of the Percy family on the spot. How impressive!

After learning about this, Caroline was extremely excited, thinking that God was going to punish that little bastard James.

"Wylie, why do you still look so worried?" Caroline pushed Wylie beside her and said discontentedly.

Wylie watched as James disappeared from sight and then said, "Things are not as simple as you think."

Caroline immediately became unhappy and said, "Wylie, James made such a big mistake this time. Do you think Alistair will still protect him?"

Trevor said, "Our Smith family maintains a cooperative relationship with the Percy family. What James did is a crime. The Percy family will definitely not let it go."

Wylie said, "James dared to do this, he must have his reasons. What you see as his arrogance is just a facade."

Wylie's eyes were filled with defiance, a desire to compete with James.

Caroline remarked, "Would Alistair truly offend the Percy family for James? If our family were to fall out with the Percys now, our position would become even more precarious, easily leading to our annexation by the Ward and Stewart family!"

This was the thought of most individuals. Now the Smith family looked glorious, but it was just on the surface. It was no longer the number one family in the City of Mysteries. If they offended the Percy family, their decline would only accelerate.

After that incident, Wylie had become more stable, able to hide his emotions well. He muttered to himself, "James, what do you want to do?"

Wylie didn't believe that James would kill Lester on a whim, putting himself in such a disadvantageous position.

As a genius who had lived in James's shadow for so many years, he knew better than anyone how deep James's scheming was. Even in his most arrogant days five years ago, he wouldn't do anything recklessly. Arrogance and flamboyance were just his facade.

And now, after disappearing for five years and returning, James gave him an even stronger sense of being unfathomable. If five years ago he could still see some of James's thoughts, now, facing James, he felt like he was facing the ocean, the starry sky, completely inscrutable.

James entered the study and saw Alistair lying in a chair, propping his chin, already asleep. Hearing the door open, Alistair immediately woke up.

Between his brows, there was a strong sense of fatigue and aging.

Indeed, Alistair was no longer young; he tirelessly ran for the family every day, dedicating his remaining vigor and passion.

Suddenly, James felt a pang of reluctance, his heart wavered for a moment.

But soon, he regained his resolve. Since he had made the decision back then, he wouldn't regret it or change it.

"Alistair." James closed the door, walked up to Alistair, and called out.

Alistair immediately sat up straight, regaining his serious demeanor, and said bluntly, "Why did you kill Lester?"

"Five years ago, Lester caused the deaths of Donna and Gregory and broke Jeffery's leg. As their elder brother, I had to take revenge," James said calmly, without a trace of fear or regret.

Alistair stared at James, his tone low, "Tell the truth."

"This is the truth," James said.

Alistair slammed his hands on the table, exclaiming, "James, do you no longer see me, Alistair, in your eyes?"

Alistair glared, his aura strong. In the entire Smith family, few could withstand Alistair's anger, not even Saxon.

Five years ago, James was inadequate, but now he handled things with ease, and still, he gazed at Alistair with a calm and indifferent look.

Alistair looked at the unyielding James and felt a headache. This grandson, whom Alistair was most proud of, had grown stronger than he had expected, becoming the most outstanding genius in the City of Mysteries. Unfortunately, everything had two sides. Because James was strong as well as excellent, he had his own ideas and no longer feared him as the head of the family.

"You're forcing me to compromise." Alistair withdrew his authority and stared at James.

James knew his tactics couldn't fool Alistair, so he didn't deny it and said, "As long as you agree to let me marry Jennifer, I can handle the current crisis myself."

Alistair tapped the table, his expression very unpleasant, "This is a rule. No negotiation! I've already arranged for you to meet Lisa from the Savoy family in a few days. If Lisa agrees, our two families will officially unite. Lisa is one of the three beauties of the City of Mysteries, outstanding in both ability and appearance, a perfect match for you."
