Chapter 497 James's Acting Skills
"Dr. Johnson and Mr. Smith, please have a seat."
Calvin, dressed in a neat designer suit, exuded an elite aura that made it clear he was a successful person in society.
In contrast, James dressed very plainly, looking far less impressive compared to Calvin.
Jennifer also dressed casually. Because she was an exceptionally beautiful woman with outstanding charisma, she had a unique charm.
She walked in, intimately holding James's hand, which in many individuals' eyes looked like a beautiful flower stuck in a pile of manure. What a pity.
Calvin's smile was bright and seemed very warm and friendly; no one would suspect he had any bad intentions.
James smiled and said, "Sorry to keep you waiting, Dr. Allen."
Calvin waved his hand and said, "Not at all, I just got here myself."
Jennifer's attitude was relatively cold; she just nodded slightly at Calvin and didn't say anything else, showing a stance that she was there mainly for James.
Her virtuous demeanor made Calvin feel jealous of James once again.
But he quickly suppressed this thought. James was just a hypocrite; even with a stunning woman like Jennifer by his side, he could only look but not have sex. That was the greatest sorrow for a man.
Besides, if he could get Jennifer into Brent's bed, he could easily pocket a million bucks. Once Brent got tired of Jennifer, he could even pick up a second-hand beauty. Wouldn't that be wonderful?
Calvin behaved normally from start to finish; at least Jennifer couldn't see anything unusual about him. She trusted James's words and remained vigilant against Calvin.
"Mr. Smith, can you drink?" Calvin asked James.
James said, "I can drink a little."
Calvin's eyes lit up, "Then shall we have a drink?"
"Sure." James nodded.
Calvin patted the waiter, asking for a bottle of expensive red wine.
When Jennifer went to the restroom, Calvin proactively toasted James, saying enviously, "Mr. Smith, I really envy you."
James curiously asked, "Oh? Dr. Allen, what do you envy about me?"
"I envy you for marrying such a beautiful woman like Dr. Johnson. It's really enviable." Calvin said this while closely watching James's reaction.
James scratched his head, showing a simple and honest expression that couldn't hide his pride, looking like a coward. "Haha, that's right. Marrying Jennifer is the greatest blessing of my life! Over the years, many people have envied me for marrying such a beautiful woman like Jennifer."
Calvin, while despising James in his heart, was also very annoyed. It was just luck that he married a woman like Jennifer.
Calvin outwardly showed an envious expression and poured wine for James, "James, you're amazing. How did you manage to win over Dr. Johnson? Teach me, please."
Calvin subtly lowered his stance to numb James's nerves.
In his mind, he had already defined James as someone without real ability who liked to be flattered. Such people were the easiest to deal with.
As he had imagined, James straightened his back upon hearing the compliment, his expression becoming even more proud. He even coughed twice and waved his hand, saying pretentiously, "Dr. Allen, you're too kind. I was just lucky to marry Jennifer."
Calvin despised him even more in his heart. 'Fool. I've already investigated thoroughly; you're just a man who married into the Johnson family and has no dignity there. For years, Jennifer liked to humiliate you in front of others.'
Seeing Calvin not speaking, James frowned and said unhappily, "What, do you not believe I won Jennifer's love?"
"No, that's not what I meant. Come on, James, let's toast." Calvin suppressed his disdain and pretended to be admiring, holding up his glass with both hands to toast James.
James's expression improved a bit. He only used his right hand to clink glasses with Calvin, following Calvin's lead, showing a higher stance and a smug expression.
If people who knew James saw this scene, they would surely marvel at his superb acting skills, as there was no trace of pretense.
Indeed, in the entire City of Mysteries industry, who didn't know that James was famously shrewd and flamboyant? How could he be so easily led by Calvin?
With James's capabilities, he could crush Calvin with a finger, but he didn't do so. It wasn't because he disdained to; he wanted to use Calvin to root out the mastermind behind the scenes and eliminate future troubles.
"Dr. Allen, I'm not bragging. When it comes to wooing women, you really should ask me." James downed his drink and said, tilting his head back.
"Well." Calvin repeatedly agreed, saying, "I'm here mainly to learn from you this time."
"Actually, there's no special trick. In front of women, you have to show a man's authority. Hit when you need to hit, scold when you need to scold. Look at me, my wife is so beautiful, but isn't she still obedient in front of me?" James boasted.
Calvin poured more wine for James, his mouth twitching slightly. He despised James to the extreme. Normally, a coward like James wouldn't even have the right to talk to him, let alone have him pour wine for him.
But for Brent's million dollars, he had to endure it.
"James, you're really awesome." Calvin changed the subject, "But James, you've been married to Jennifer for five years. Why don't you have any kids yet? Is there a problem with your sex life?" Calvin mocked.
James's face immediately changed, frowning, "Dr. Allen, what do you mean by that? Are you saying I'm impotent?"
James even banged the table to show his displeasure.
Calvin regretted it a bit, wondering why he couldn't resist mocking him. If he offended James and couldn't get him drunk, it would be a loss.
With this, he quickly apologized to James in a more respectful tone, lowering his stance so much that he even despised himself a bit, just to appease James.
"To be honest, my sexual function is very strong," James said, glaring.
Calvin quickly nodded.
Then James started bragging about how powerful he was in front of Jennifer and how she had to listen to him.
But before he could finish, Jennifer returned. Seeing her, James immediately sat up straight, adopting a humble posture, making Calvin despise him even more.
