Chapter 434 Good Sisters
Brandy stared straight at James with adoration, made James feel quite embarrassed several times.
Brandy wasn't deliberately trying to seduce James; she genuinely admired him and was solely focused on learning medicine. This kind of pure admiration was the most attractive.
James discovered that Brandy was not only pure-hearted but also highly intelligent. She grasped many medical concepts quickly and genuinely loved traditional medical techniques, studying them with great interest. She constantly took notes and asked James questions during the ten-hour train ride from Lindwood City to the City of Mysteries, except when eating, sleeping, or using the restroom.
"Mr. Smith, thank you for your guidance. When we arrive at the City of Mysteries, let me treat you to a meal!" Brandy said gratefully.
"Sure," James agreed with a smile. It was hard not to like a girl as pure and eager to learn as Brandy.
"Great!" Brandy said excitedly. "I thought this trip to the City of Mysteries would be boring, but meeting Mr. Smith was my pleasure."
She admired him like a little girl, which made James feel much more affectionate towards her.
"What do you do forthe City of Mysteries?" James asked with a smile as he helped her open a bottle cap.
"Thank you, Mr. Smith," Brandy said politely. "I had the opportunity to attend a medical exchange conference in the City of Mysteries, so I came."
What a good student who loves medicine, James thought. But her calling him "professor" made him uncomfortable, so he said, "Brandy, just call me James. No need to call me professor."
"But you are a professor." Brandy uttered.
"I'm not a professor, just a temporary lecturer," James said with a wry smile, waving his hand.
Brandy thought for a moment and said, "Then I'll call you teacher, Mr. Smith."
"Alright," James nodded. "Teacher" seemed fitting, as nowadays anyone could be called a teacher.
"Mr. Smith, what brings you to the City of Mysteries?"
"I have some matters to attend to," James replied.
Soon, the train arrived at the station. James and Brandy got off together, and the temperature was noticeably lower than in Serenity State. The familiar feeling made James stand still for a while.
After two thousand days, James was finally back.
Previously, he would never have thought he could be in a low profile in the City of Mysteries, blending perfectly into the crowd.
Sensitive to emotions, Brandy sensed James's mood. She stood quietly beside him, not disturbing him, waiting for him.
James withdrew his gaze and smiled at Brandy, saying, "Let's go."
Brandy nodded gently and followed James out.
"Brandy, over here."
In the crowd, someone waved vigorously. It was evidently Brandy's friend, a slightly chubby girl who looked about the same age as Brandy.
Next to her was a boy wearing glasses, who couldn't take his eyes off Brandy when he saw her.
Brandy was dressed very plainly, in clothes that had clearly been washed many times. Her youthful and scholarly aura was undeniable. Combined with her pretty face, she attracted a lot of attention.
Brandy was quite shy, and being stared at by so many onlookers made her blush instantly. She said to James, a bit embarrassed, "Mr. Smith, she's my friend, here to pick me up."
James smiled and said, "Let's go over then."
"Juniper, why have you come to pick me up? I have said I would come by myself," Brandy said to the chubby girl.
Juniper Wren's family and Brandy's family were from the same small town, and they had known each other since childhood. However, when she saw Brandy, a flash of jealousy and disdain crossed her eyes, quickly masked by a warm smile. She affectionately took Brandy's hand and said, "We're good friends. You rarely come to the City of Mysteries, so how could I not come to pick you up personally?"
Brandy didn't notice the fleeting jealousy and disdain and was immediately touched. She held Juniper's hand and said emotionally, "Juniper, thank you. It's great to have a friend like you."
Juniper pretended to be displeased and said, "I'm not happy with you saying that. We're childhood friends, no need to be so polite."
Brandy nodded and flashed a radiant smile, which stunned everyone nearby, especially the man next to Juniper, who stared at Brandy with wide eyes, almost drooling.
To him, a pure and beautiful girl like Brandy was incredibly attractive, especially since she was also a top student. He wished Brandy were his girlfriend.
Juniper noticed the man's reaction, and her face darkened with jealousy. However, Brandy, who had turned to talk to James, didn't see her expression.
"Mr. Smith, this is Juniper, my childhood friend."
"Juniper, this is Mr. Smith. His medical skills are amazing, even better than our school's professors!" Brandy said with an admiring expression.
With this, Juniper and the boy next to her immediately focused on James. They quickly noticed his appearance, lack of charisma, and old-fashioned clothes, making him look like a poor man from the countryside. They both showed disdainful expressions.
"Really? That's impressive," Juniper said dismissively, not taking James seriously and thinking Brandy had been deceived by him. After all, Brandy had always been naive, easily deceived, and quick to forgive.
Juniper herself had tricked Brandy many times, so she wasn't surprised that Brandy had been fooled by this poor man.
Then, Juniper affectionately took the boy's arm and introduced him to Brandy, "Brandy, this is my boyfriend, Quade Brooks. He's the vice president of our school's student council!"
Quade frowned slightly at Juniper's affectionate gesture, showing some reluctance. He coughed twice and withdrew his hand, then extended it to Brandy with a gentlemanly demeanor, saying, "Brandy, nice to meet you. In the City of Mysteries, just mention you're my friend. You'll receive special treatment."
